Manchester City began their Premier League title defence with an exciting 3-2 win over newly-promoted Southampton at the Etihad Stadium. More
90+3' The final whistle goes and Samir Nasri's goal sees the champions get their title defence off to a winning start. Southampton may have lost, but they showed enough here to suggest that they will have plenty of hope of staying up this season.
87' Manchester City substitution: Aleksandar Kolarov replaces Tevez.
86' Schneiderlin is booked for a cynical foul that stopped a City counter-attack.
85' Southampton substitution: Billy Sharp replaces Puncheon.
84' Nasri was booked for revealing a message on his t-shirt when he scored. He must have lifted his shirt all the way over his head, unlike Tevez earlier who did not receive a yellow card.
80' GOAL!! City are ahead! Clichy's cross is inexplicably headed back across goal by Danny Fox and Nasri is on hand to fire City back into the lead!
76' Yaya Toure's free-kick is parried by Kelvin Davis and Southampton's defenders react quickest to clear.
73' End-to-end stuff now as a Southampton attack is snuffed out and a City break ends with Balotelli htting the side-netting!
72' GOAL!! A City corner is headed away but only as far Kompany. The captain's shot rebounds off Toure's legs but Dzeko is at the far post to finish!
72' Manchester City substitution: Mario Balotelli replaces Silva.
68' GOAL!! From that break Southampton go ahead! The cross fromt he left of blocked but Steven Davis, another substitute, lashes a low strike across Hart and into the bottom corner!
65' Southampton substitution: Steven Davis replaces Ward-Prowse.
62' Not sure what happened, but Fox was booked for something he did during the celebration of that Lambert goal.
59' GOAL!! Just three minutes after coming on, Lambert equalises! Last season's top scorer shows great instinct to pounce on a loose ball on the edge of the box and curl a well-struck finish past Hart!
57' Neat feet from Puncheon to work a yard of space and get his cross in from the right and Adam Lallana steals in but guides it wide from an awkward angle.
56' Southampton substitution: Rickie Lambert replaces Rodriguez.
55' Tevez again drives into the Southampton box. His strike is palmed away by Davis and Nasri tees it up for Silva, who fires over the bar!
49' Brilliant play from Nasri as he wriggles and turns his way past two Southampton defenders at the byline. He fires a low ball across the box and Dzeko somehow manages to not guide it home! A great chance to double City's lead goes begging.
46' The second half is underway!
45+4' The whistle goes for half-time, and City go into the break with a one-goal lead.
40' GOAL!! Nasri clips a ball over for Twevez who lets it rolls past him before dispatching a clinical low finish inside the near post!
17' SAVED BY DAVIS!! It was an awful penalty from the Spaniard, rolled tamely and too close to the keeper!
16' PENALTY!! Samir Nasri flicks a backheel into the area and Tevez is tripped by Jos Hooiveld as he rolls past the defender!! David Silva will take it...
14' Manchester City substitution: Edin Dzeko replaces Aguero.
13' After it initially looked as though Aguero would be OK, he is now being stretchered off and will play no further part. Applause comes from all sides of the ground.
1' City kick off and we're underway!

Nice to see the fake doctor preparing his excuses for this season.Looks like " all our players are injured again" is going to be this seasons mantra.c.t.i.d.
You're quite right! Religion has no place in football, hence he was rightly booked
Why anti-Muslim referee in this match. It's so embarrassing EPL practice hated of Islam. Thank you Nasri for Eid Mubarak. Despite playing on the day of Eid Mubarak. What a shame Britain. Human right where you are. Do not know how to talk only. But did not do anything. Islam forever. lest we boycott the Premier League. Why not give card with Teves when do the same action. Remove the card Nasri . Do not involve religion in the Premier League. What a shame EPL.
Jack C the reason is probably because it wasn't a foul in the first place. Shame about the offside goal everyone except the officials could see it, can't expect the little darlings to get everything right but hey thats football. Lets hope serious injury doesn't blight the Premier league this season its better to see two good sides at full strength rather than one having half the side missing through injury as was the case with Man United most of last season only to hand City a Piric victory with the last kick of the last match. Still a new season starts and lets hope it is talked about by the football on the pitch rather than referees and major inuries making most of the headlines Good luck to all and may the best Team win
Happy Eid Mubarak for a wining goal....
How come Tevez didn't get booked for showing a slogan on his shirt after scoring, but Nasri did? Surely managers must get annoyed when players do this. It might prove crucial later on in the season when they get a ban for accumulating yellow cards.
@ Jack C 252 - yes, MU sold Sylvester to Arsenal.
Funny how all the MC fans have buried their heads in the sand regarding Tevez's goal which was clearly off side. Now if this was an MU player they would all be shouting brown envelopes and refs in pocket, etc. But now that the shoe is on the other foot, silence. It won't be long now before the brown envelope brigade comes out of the woodwork again. How much did Mancini pay for this win against a very spirited and hard done by Southampton?
Hilarious.....!! The usual set of illiterate rags and foreigners who don't even know where Manchester is, let alone ever having been there commenting on a game that has nothing whatsoever to do with them. Go and support your own teams and stop polluting the web. Fair play to Southampton. They gave it their best but it's difficult to play against a side that has quality in every department and not just the will to win. A winning start for our boys. Off to Liverpool next weekend. Hope we can repeat the dose there and get the season off to a flyer - again. Night, night saddos. Go back under your rock.
Sad to see linesmen not having glasses
Tevez's goal was a 2m offside 4 officials don't see that on the opening of the premier?
How sad people haven't got enough use of the English language to comment without using FOUL language. Give us all a break and learn how to speak coherently (hope you all understand that). Probably not.
249 by asd does that ASD mean a stupid #$%$ City dont win 3--2 allthe time sometimes they win 1 --- SIX get it right up you
A wins a win rags now go try and win yours against the team that F cked u!!! last season lol
Arseanl will survive without VPC. Not a single palyer is unreplaceable. It is up to th to the remaining of the club players to raise and stand to face this as a challenge. Do you think Mr fergie will win just because of VPC? Who will feed him the same as Arsenal players did last year? Has ManU ever sell a playet to Arsenal in the past?
bret you are on the ball , with intellect like that you could manage united
I think City will win 3-2.
same old same old City win on goal difference who would of thought it up you RAGarse knobs
