    • 70' This game all over then. Wigan were finished as a force when they went down to 10 men. Haven't really recovered from that stage of the game.
    • 69' GOAL! Gael Bigirimana drills a left foot shot high into the net from just outside the Wigan box. Superb finish and Newcastle lead 3-0. His first goal for the club.

    • 63' Newcastle will remain 14th in the table, but will be three points clear of Wigan.
    • 62' Boyce brings Ba down from behind. Newcastle with a free-kick in their own half.
    • 61' Di Santo fails to win the ball in the middle of the home area before Simpson collects it to launch an attack.
    • 60' Wigan keeping the ball well. Plenty of possession with Stam throwing over a few decent balls. If only they had 11 men on the park.
    • 59' All gone a bit quiet in this second half among the home fans. Alan Pardew out of his technical area attempting to rouse his side.

    • 55' Simpson doing well to cut out the cross from Stam as the home side look to break.
    • 54' Newcastle failed to win any of their three Premier League matches at St James Park last December – losing to Chelsea and West Brom and drawing with Swansea. Their lastl league home victory in December was Alan Pardew’s first ever match as their manager – 3-1 v Liverpool in 2010.
    • 53' Strong play by Kone and Wigan will have a corner here. Stam suffers a blow in the face from Jonás Gutiérrez out wide. Wigan lacking numbers in that Newcastle half.
    • 52' Sylvain Marveaux slams the low shot at goal from the edge of the box, but Al Habsi alert to make the save.
    • 51' Newcastle have not won a Premier League match this season by more than a one-goal margin. Their last league victory by two or more goals was 2-0 at Chelsea on May 2.
    • 50' McArthur giving the ball away without any need. Ferguson throws over a high ball, but all too easy for Al Habsi to come off his line and collect.
    • 49' Santon is going to depart the action to be replaced by Shane Ferguson.
    • 48' Di Santo hammers a shot over the bar from distance. Slices the right foot shot wide. Santon needing a spot of treatment here.
    • 47' Adrian Lopez has replaced Caldwell for Wigan. Not a huge surprise with Caldwell one tackle away from a red. Gael Bigirimana replaces Cheik Tioté for the home side.
    • 46' Off we go then in the second period of this one with Wigan trailing 2-0.
    • 45+2' There is the whistle for the break! A 2-0 lead for Newcastle at the break. Well in control it would seem.
    • 44' We are into two minutes of time added on.
    • 43' Newcastle have lost their last two league games at St James’ Park. They have not lost three in a row since April 2009. Doesn't look like they will lose again tonight.
    • 42' Kone does well to win his side a corner. Kone gets a header on the delivery from Figueroa, but the home side scramble it clear.
    • 41' Stam drives a cross straight into the arms of the waiting Krul.
    • 40' Figueroa's red card was Wigan’s fourth in the division against Newcastle – more than any other club they have faced.
    • 39' Ba is the first Newcastle player to score twice in the first half of a Premier League match since Papiss Cisse at West Brom in March.
    • 38' Tiote rams a 35 yarder inches over the bar. Fine attempt by the Newcastle man, who hasn't been shy to have a go this evening.
    • 37' Marveaux curls the free-kick at goal. Ball had some violent swerve on it and just eludes Al Habsi's right-hand post.
    • 36' Caldwell misses the ball before dragging down Ba. Fortunate to avoid a second yellow card and a red card.
    • 35' Marveaux drives a shot at goal from distance, but Al Habsi dives to claw out the shot. Fine driving run, but a good stop.
    • 34' Stam bullets a brilliant ball across the face of the home goal, but Coloccini is back to make a timely intervention.
    • 33' Ba gets a touch on the ball in the middle, but the ball breaks kindly off a red shirt before dropping in the arms of Al Habsi.
    • 32' Jonás Gutiérrez throws over a cross, but nobody in the box to finish off. Disappointing end to that move.
    • 31' QPR manager Harry Redknapp is in the stands watching the action. He is doing his homework ahead of his side's forthcoming match with Wigan.
    • 30' Caldwell is the latest man into the book for a late challenge on Ba.
    • 29' Some strong play by Di Santo for the visitors up front. Doing well to win and retain the ball. Stam ends up lifting a cross acres long. Throw-in to the home side.
    • 28' If Ba scores again he will become only the third Newcastle player to have scored multiple hat tricks at St James Park after Alan Shearer and Andy Cole.
    • 27' Wigan have lost four out of their past five away matches in the Premier League. Doesn't look like they are going to improve that record here.
    • 26' The home fans suddenly relishing this evening as Kone takes out Tiote with a late challenge.
    • 25' Kone had Di Santo in support but stalls on the ball as Newcastle break up the play fairly easily.

    • 20' Gomez hammers a shot at goal from distance, but the ball sails wide of the target.

    • 18' Williamson and Fabricio Coloccini almost squander possession on their own box, but just manage to recover. Alan Pardew furious about such sloppy play at the back.
    • 17' Ba clearly in the mood as he thumps an effort miles over from distance. Newcastle going for the jugular here.
    • 16' James McCarthy tries to pick out Jordi Gómez, who is caught offside after setting off too early.
    • 15' A booking for Jean Beausejour for a spot of dissent. All going wrong for Wigan after a bright start.
    • 14' GOAL! Ba plants the ball low to the right of Al Habsi, who guessed right but could not reach the ball. A 1-0 lead for the home side.
    • 13' RED CARD! Maynor Figueroa off the park. That looked harsh. Deemed to be the last man when he made that tackle.
    • 12' PENALTY TO NEWCASTLE! Maynor Figueroa brings down Cisse as he darted onto the pass from Ba. Lovely ball. Looked like a penalty.
    • 11' Jean Beausejour fouling Cisse off the ball. Newcastle with a free-kick. Williamson wins the ball in the air from Anita's delivery, but Wigan deal with the danger.
    • 10' Demba Ba has 31 goals in 60 Premier League appearances since he arrived in England. Only Robin van Persie (58) and Wayne Rooney (41) have more goals in the division since the start of 2011.
    • 9' Vurnon Anita with a decent delivery. A fierce competition to win the ball in the air before Al Habsi finally claims it ahead of Demba Ba seconds later.
    • 8' Sylvain Marveaux lifts the ball into the Wigan area. Stam eventually helps knock it out before the home side earn their first corner of the match.
    • 7' Stam drives a shot at goal, but leaning back as he lifts the ball well over the bar.
    • 6' A real mood of nervous tension around the home fans. Vurnon Anita heads over his own bar from Jones's curling free-kick. Good early pressure from Wigna.
    • 5' Di Santo curls the ball at goal from distance, but Krul dives to his left to nudge the shot wide. Decent effort by the Wigan forward.
    • 4' Tiote clatters into Gomez with a late challenge. On we go with Wigan in possession in the home half.
    • 3' Wigan are one of five Premier League clubs this season who are unbeaten after netting the opening goal – three wins, two draws. The others are both Manchester clubs, Arsenal and Swansea.
    • 2' Tiote drives a shot a couple of yards wide from 25 yards out. Decent hit just eludes the target. Bright start by the home side.
    • 1' Newcastle get the action off and running.
    • 19.55 Newcastle and Wigan in the tunnel. Almost ready to with this one. Newcastle in black and white, Wigan in red.
    • 19.50 Newcastle have won once in their nine Premier League matches since Alan Pardew signed a new eight-year contract as their manager, picking up six points. The only Premier League club without a worse record over the same period is QPR (four points).
    • 19.45 Roberto Martinez on Ali Al-Habsi's recent performances: "Ali is such a confident player and internally he is a very strong human being. I would say his mental strength is his biggest quality. As a goalkeeper you need to be able to move on from action to action and he is not affected by that. It's not a confidence issue at all."
    • 19.40 There are only three English players in total in both starting line ups tonight – the same as the number of Argentines who are starting. Newcastle have lost four Premier League matches – the equal-longest losing run of any Premier League club this season, level with Southampton’s four-match losing streak from August to September. The last Premier League club to lose five in a row was Blackburn (5) from March to April.
    • 19.35 Alan Pardew: "As a manager and as a coaching team, we have looked at everything we have done. We have changed some stuff, which we think might help, and we have to change the environment because we have got a different set of players now. It's all very much now about us all pulling really strongly in whichever role we are given."
    • 19.30 Wigan manager Roberto Martinez includes Gary Caldwell and midfielder David Jones. Jones picked up a knock to his calf during Wednesday's 2-0 defeat by Manchester City while Caldwell is recovering from a hamstring problem but both start. Midfielders Albert Crusat (knee) and Ben Watson (broken leg), winger Ryo Miyaichi (ankle), forward Shaun Maloney (groin) and defenders Antolin Alcaraz (groin) and Ivan Ramis (hamstring) remain on the sidelines.
    • 19.25 Newcastle boss Alan Pardew is without utility-man James Perch. The former Nottingham Forest defender is suspended after collecting his fifth booking of the campaign at Stoke on Wednesday evening on his return from a thigh injury. Pardew will still be unable to call upon central defender Steven Taylor (hamstring), midfielders Hatem Ben Arfa (hamstring), Gabriel Obertan (toe) and Yohan Cabaye (groin surgery) and striker Shola Ameobi (groin).
    • 19.20 Newcastle: Krul, Simpson, Williamson, Coloccini, Santon, Marveaux, Tiote, Anita, Gutierrez, Ba, Cisse..subs: Harper, Bigirimana, Shola Ameobi, Sammy Ameobi, Ranger, Ferguson, Tavernier////Wigan: Al Habsi, Stam, Boyce, Caldwell, Figueroa, Gomez, Jones, McCarthy, Beausejour, Di Santo, Kone..subs: Pollitt, McManaman, McArthur, Boselli, Fyvie, Lopez, Golobart

  10. For the muppetts out there.... The ref got it right, it was a sending off, it was a foul and he was the last man back, ref had no choice. I expect better than that from you Joseph. As for the crowd, Wigan had hardly any fans with them hence the low crowd.

  17. Was never a sending off, it was a 50/50 ball and the wigan man was stronger with a LEGAL shoulder charge. Till that moment it was wigan on the front foot. After that newcastle could have won by 8/9 and started to look like a team that should be around 6th by the end of season. But if it takes a team to go down to 10 men before you can beat them then its gonna be a long season.
