Robin van Persie scored a hat-trick, including a stoppage time winner, as Manchester United snatched a 3-2 victory over Southampton. More
FT AND THERE IS THE FINAL WHISTLE!!! Van Persie the hero for United despite a penalty miss. How unlucky for Southampton – a brave effort.
90+2 HAT-TRICK FOR VAN PERSIE!!!!! He has put United in front with a superb header from a corner.
88' GOAL FOR UNITED!!!! Van Persie has made up for his penalty miss by rolling into an empty net after Rio Ferdinand's header came off the post from Rafael's cross.
79' Southampton taking off the excellent Lallana and on comes Jay Rodriguez.
74' The excellent Jason Puncheon is coming off and new signing Emmanuel Mayuka comes on. Ricky Lambert is also coming off and Guly do Prado comes on too.
72' Hernandez comes for Welbeck. That's United's final change.
69' VAN PERSIE'S PENALTY IS SAVED!!! He tried a little dinked penalty and Davis makes up for his poor pass that led to the penalty by making a good save. Poor penalty by RVP though – he tried to be too smart.
68' PENALTY FOR UNITED – Hooiveld slides in behind Van Persie after Davis had given the ball way cheaply.
62' Scholes with an instant impact as he slides a ball in behind the defence for Van Persie. The Dutch striker fires a shot on target despite the tough angle but smart save from Davis.
61' Double change for United – Scholes and Nani come on and Kagawa and Cleverley make way.
58' Puncheon tricks Evra inside the box and goes round him, he then fires towards the near post and Lindegaard has to make a good save.
56' Not too dissimilar to the first Southampton goal. Lambert was the provider this time as he curled in a right foot cross from the edge of the area. Patrice Evra then slipped at the back post leaving Schneiderlin free to head the ball into the corner of the net.
55' GOAL FOR SOUTHAMPTON!!! Schneiderlin has put them back in front with a free header.
54' Poor pass from Kelvin Davis is pounced on by Valencia – he feeds Van Persie in the box and you are expecting a goal but instead he redirects the ball well wide.
49' Kagawa fires just wide from the edge of the area after a lovely little flick from Robin van Persie.
46' And we are back underway.
HT And there is the half-time whistle – a cracking half of football – let's hope for more of the same after the break.
40' Valencia with another deep cross and once again Clyne slips. Evra comes rushing in and heads the ball down into the ground. Davis has to make a smart save to stop it.
34' Lallana is popping up everywhere – he drags another shot wide that was close despite lacking power.
25' Lambert with a decent left foot strike from outside the box after the ball bounced nicely for him but it just drifts wide.
24' Valencia put a cross into the back post. Clyne slipped allowing Van Persie to take the ball on his chest and then bury the half volley low into the opposite corner. Classy finish.
23' GOAL FOR UNITED – Typically impressive finish by Robin Van Persie.
21' Cleverley wins the ball and feeds Kagawa. The Japanese international fires a low shot from outside of the box early but Davis gets down to push it away for a corner.
16' Kagawa was caught in possession and Southampton worked it to Puncheon. The winger then stood the ball up to the back post where Lambert had peeled off too. With Rafael only there for company there was only going to be one winner – Lambert guides the header into the corner of the net.
16' GOAL FOR SOUTHAMPTON!!!! Lambert has put them in front.
14' Clever corner by Southampton. They line all their men near the line but then Lallana drops out and they play it low for him. He fresh airs the shot though but that was well worked.
7' Van Persie takes the ball down superbly on this chest after a long ball into the box from Carrick – his shot is not quite as impressive as it goes wide but the Dutchman looks in the mood already.
1' Man United, wearing white, get us underway.

mike dean get a lift to soton on the mu coach anybody know? penalty to united.
What can you say about people on here wishing RVP or any other player, from whatever team, that get get injured or worse still suffer horrible injuries to end their career? I can only ask how they would feel if it happened not to them, but to their husbands or wives or sons or daughters? Such inhumanity is beyond belief. Have they got anything civilized left inside them, anything that isn't festering in them? You just show yourselves for what you really are. I cannot member these people among decent society. What more can I say.
It easy to go from vilain to hero in football. This time it was a transplant that save manU from humiliation and we are yet to here Fergie thank Arsenal for selling his team VPC. Heroes come and go overnight, we saw that when Ronaldo was playing for anU and Rooney and Barbatov recently. VPC must be aware that tomorrow it could be his turn. Throught yrs with Arsenal he never had to apologize even when the team was down. The season has just started and we must not lose sight that soomn team will learn how t mark VPC, as they have done against Rooney, then what is left?
Here we go again - Fergie time. Here is the proof that these people never use a brain cell when they speak. The winning goal came at 91.09. There were another 2 and a half minutes of added time after this. This means that the extra time was in Southampton's favour because they had the chance to get an equaliser. Every minute after the winning goal was against MU. Anyone with even one brain cell can see that Southampton had the advantage with the full 4 min of extra time. The key here is "one brain cell". I would like to know from these people what they thought of the extra time last season which led to the ref blowing after the winning goal was scored. Bought time? Bought goal? Of course not - it wasn't MU, right?
ala..janda arsenal kata kn...mst r hbt..hahahaha
Brilliant strike from RVP
As usual a lot of rubbish written interspersed by a few comments by people who actually understand the game Its all very well being critical of certain aspects of the game but if you are going to comment at least have some basic knowledge of the game. It is all very well being match fit but it takes time to come back from injury and play at your best. This was the first game that Ferdinand and Vidic have played in tandem since November last year both have come back from injury and need time to settle in. Would seem also that many aren't aware that Young is injured and nani has just come back from injury as well. Kagawa is the new boy and his first season in the Premier league, it needs time to bed in and get used to the speed of the game in this country. and in my opinion he has aquitted himself very well. We still have two defensive players injured plus Rooney. I don't see any need for negativity we might not be as fluent as we would like to be but we have still won 2 out of three games so we are poised nicely to progress further up the table. its early doors with plenty of games left Yet with some the panic has set in all ready mainly because they have little or no idea how to run a football team let alone pick a side to do the job. It is essential to pick a team to counteract the oppositions strengths and to take advantages of their weaknesses
we didnt deserve to lose. man united had to wreck our dreams of winning STUFF YOU
Some of you make me laugh! You bang on about extra minutes played for Utd... however many minutes are played, it's the same for BOTH teams, is it not?
there's only two things to say screw rooney and why wasn't nani in the starting 11
United and England showing faith in Cleverley out of all proportion to his performances. At this rate a great future beckons for him ... in the Championship! And I can't see Welbeck being United's future either.
We, as gunners, feel terrible heart broken...
we were lucky. still need to work on defence and midfield. sir alex should not depend on scholes all the time.
Lindegaard is equally good compare to De Gea. The problem is our defence and mid-field. Vidic is still ok, Rio is getting old, Rafael is old a defensive player, he is better in the attacking mid-field. Evra is getting old too, always not at the right position, probably too much sex the night before, so his legs are too weak to stand firm. Mid field: Carrick is too indecisive and not able to run alot (slow) - not a typical MU player. Kawaga, needs to strengthen his body, Premier League is unlike other league which may be too feminine. Clevery created some sparks last season, but this season has not showed anything yet, he and Kawaga alike, not too strong. Schole and Riggs are the best, but their career are going to over. Forward: Valencia, Ashey, Roony, RVP, Nani ( need a few more game, I have confident in him), Hernandez ( give him more games, though he is small, he read the game better tha Welbeck) and welbeck, no worries. Need only to wait for Smalling, Jones, Evans. Since MU ha bought Powell and Butter, should try them. SHould also try the U21, like Wooton, Keane, Thorpe, and Tunni.
Man U needs a centre fielder like Schneider or even Gerrard. We need someone like the old Vidic an Rio not these two now. Start Ashley Young and Nani/Valencia on the two Wings with RVP as an attacking Midfield with Welback and hernandez. Then Load up on defense, 5 defenders with Rafael going up from time to time is the only way. Evra can only sub, have someone younger like Andersen play his position.
RVP hattrick and 3 points aside, SAF still has serious problems in defence and midfield. Lindegaard was not better than De Gea. Vidic and Rio need time together to gel. Rafael is better going forward than defend. Evra need to get his act together. Kagawa is very light weight and looks a luxury player unlike Park who will ran all afternoon and win possession. Carrick didn't do anything positive all afternoon. Cleverley is not United class, full stop. Aside from all these it's not too bad. Given the benefit of age and ability to win possession means Welbeck just about alright. Scholes saved the day. Nani looked over weight, wonder whether he found Rooney's favourite grub. Anyway his pace and trickery means United were more balanced and threathening then relying on right wing alone.
Liverpool for the drop to Championship league. Good bye Liverpool
