    • 90+8' Spurs sub Jake Livermore has been booked for coming onto the field of play as tempers rose.
    • 90+7' Chico was furious that play was not stopped but things are calming down now and Michu is up having recovered consciousness.
    • 90+6' Lloris races off his line to punch away from a deep ball into the box and clatters into Michu and knocks him clean out. It was accidental but the keeper was just trying to punch away. Ref Mike Dean should have stopped the game but Spurs were allowed to attack and Lennon almost scored.
    • 90+5' It's a very poor corner from Agustien and as Spurs try to break, Defoe launches into a reckless tackle on Britton and is booked.
    • 90+4' Now Gallas heads behind for a late corner for Swansea...
    • 90+4' A free-kick is flung into the Spurs box and we have a spot of head tennis. The home side clear though.
    • 90+3' Here comes the change as Parker replaces Dembele for his first appearance of the season.
    • 90+1' We will have five added minutes, plenty of time for another goal...
    • 90' Scott Parker will be appearing for the first time this season...
    • 89' Lovely work from Sigurdsson as he runs the clock down and holds off Tiendalli. Swansea then fail to mount a quick break when they do win the ball.
    • 88' Big chance for Spurs! Defoe has the chance to kill the game off after being played in by Sigurdsson but Tremmel denies him with an excellent save.
    • 86' Danny Graham replaces Dyer as Swansea go for the equaliser.
    • 84' Chico goes down in some pain after a bit of a delayed reaction but he seems fine to continue.
    • 83' Here come Swansea on the break with Michu and he squares for Dyer, but the midfielder just fails to get his pass to Moore away.
    • 82' The free-kick is rolled off to Vertonghen and the thumping drive takes a touch off Britton before going behind.
    • 81' Chico goes into the book for bringing down Townsend 20 yards from goal.
    • 80' Stat from Infostrada: "Jan Vertonghen scores his first PL goal for Tottenham, becoming the seventh different Belgian to score in the PL this season, beating the previous record of six in 2011-12."
    • 79' It is aimed towards the defender but he can't direct the ball on target after leaping behind Chico.
    • 78' Now Spurs win a corner as Vertonghen saunters forward...
    • 77' Just when it felt like the momentum of the game was swinging away from Spurs ... still, you wouldn't rule out Swansea at this stage.
    • 75' GOAL! Tottenham 1-0 Swansea! Vertonghen with the finish for Spurs. Davies accidentally flicks a Walker free-kick on to the Belgian defender and his first-time finish on the half volley is excellent as he steers the ball past Tremmel.
    • 75' Swansea make a change as Ki is replaced by forward Luke Moore.
    • 74' Stat from Infostrada: "Tottenham have conceded 10 goals in the last 15 minutes of their PL matches this season – the most in the division."
    • 73' Adebayor heads straight down the tunnel and Andros Townsend is on in his place. Sigurdsson will drop in behind Defoe.
    • 72' Apologies, it is his ankle - a legacy of Britton's block from a few minutes ago. He hobbles off for treatment.
    • 71' A problem for Spurs here. Just a minute after the substitution and Adebayor appears to have pulled a hamstring.
    • 70' Spurs make their first change as Dempsey is replaced by former Swansea midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson.
    • 69' Dempsey feeds Adebayor in the left channel but Chico heads clear as Swansea's staunch rear-guard action continues.
    • 68' The free-kick is poor, but Ki ensures Swansea keep possession and put Spurs under pressure again. Davies now with a cross that is headed clear.
    • 67' Dembele is penalised for blocking off Tiendalli. It looked soft on first glance but he had his hands all over the Swansea right-back.
    • 66' Defoe controls the ball in his stride and lashes a nice shot at goal that rolls just wide of the far post. He only ever had the shot in mind.
    • 65' Ki and Dyer exchange passes but the South Korean is guilty of a heavy touch as Naughton intervenes.
    • 64' Stat from Opta: "Spurs have kept just one clean sheet in eight Premier League games under Andre Villas Boas at White Hart Lane."
    • 63' Unlucky from Adebayor. He just gets to the ball ahead of Chico and skips away from the defender and into the box. However, his initial touch was just too heavy and Tremmel is able to collect.
    • 62' Another important challenge from a Swansea player as a slide tackle from Williams prevents Defoe from getting a shot away in the box.
    • 61' De Guzman, recently booked, is replaced by Kemy Agustien in midfield. That means Ki will be shifted forward to play behind Michu.
    • 60' Michu lashes in a shot from a tight angle but the Spaniard has already been ruled offside, rightly so.
    • 59' This is becoming a very open game and now Spurs break, with Walker in acres of space to the right. Defoe lays it off to him but the full-back thunders his shot wide. An awful effort.
    • 58' Stat from Infostrada: "Tottenham have gone 32 PL matches at White Hart Lane without a 0-0 draw, since the stalemate with West Ham in March 2011."
    • 57' Vertonghen gets right under a cross and sends a header looping high into the air but Tremmel unnecessarily touches it over the bar. Still, Spurs make nothing of the corner.
    • 56' De Guzman is now guilty of the foul on Dembele as he prevents the midfielder from getting to the ball. That's another booking.
    • 55' Dembele executes a firm drive from 25 yards and his effort clips the leg of Adebayor as the striker tries to turn out of the way. The ball skews wide.
    • 54' Dembele leans into De Guzman to halt a break from Swansea. That's taking one for the team as he gets a booking.
    • 53' Fantastic defending from Britton. Spurs play the ball around neatly on the edge of the box but as Adebayor shoots, Britton slides in to block the ball.
    • 52' Spurs spread the ball wide to Naughton on the left and he comes in on his right boot to see a shot skew well wide.
    • 51' Stat from Infostrada: "Jermain Defoe has scored nearly double the amount of PL goals in the second half (79) than he has in the first (42)."
    • 50' Adebayor drives forward from the centre of the park and at full stretch the striker fires in a low shot that Tremmel turns round the post. He had to make sure but it may have been sneaking wide.
    • 49' Tottenham race down the other end and Defoe sees an effort deflected behind by Williams. The tempo has been high at the start of the second half.
    • 48' Good chance for Swansea! Michu flicks the ball on to Routledge on the left and he produces a fine cross with the outside of his right boot. Dyer just fails to get a proper contact on the ball when unmarked from six yards. He should have put the header away.
    • 46' KICK OFF! Spurs get us back underway...
    • - Luke Holdaway has a very specific prediction on Twitter: Spurs to win 2-1 Defoe then Dempsey and michu will score a late goal but Spurs will withhold the late pressure. Get in contact on Twitter.
    • - Are Spurs going to go on and get the win? Will Swansea nick one on the break? Let me know now on Twitter. Follow Tom Adams (tomEurosport) on Twitter
    • 45+2' HALF TIME. Spurs on top but some resolute defending from Swansea means it is 0-0 at the break. Chances for the home side too.
    • 45+1' We will have one minute of added time.
    • 45' Spurs win a free-kick 25 yards from goal and Dempsey stands over it. However, he makes way for Vertonghen, who smacks the wall with a hurriedly-hit effort.
    • 44' Stat from Opta: "Michu has already matched Swansea’s 2011-12 top scorer Danny Graham’s total of 12 goals from last season."
    • 42' Outrageous attempt from Michu! Sandro gives the ball away with a slack pass and from all of 45 yards Michu tries to beat Lloris with a hit and hope, only for the ball to drop just over the bar.
    • 41' Spurs surge forward again and now Lennon has a low drive saved by Tremmel. This has been an entertaining half of football.
    • 40' De Guzman is played in to the right of the box and unleashes a ferocious effort that careers just inches over the bar. Lloris was scrambling across but it might have found the top corner.
    • 39' What a hit! The ball squirts out to Walker as Britton pokes it away from inside the box and he hits an absolute piledriver from 25 yards that Tremmel only just beats away. The ball comes back in but the unmarked Gallas can't hit the target with a header.
    • 38' An unconvincing moment from William Gallas and Hugo Lloris gives Swansea a corner. The ball is cleared but when Swansea put it back in the box Michu tries to connect with an overhead kick.
    • 37' Spurs try to take a quick one from a free-kick 30 yards from goal but when Lennon sprints in behind the Swansea defence he is just caught offside.
    • 36' Naughton fizzes a fierce pass into the chest of Adebayor, standing with his back to goal 25 yards out, but the striker cannot lay the ball off to Defoe.
    • 35' Stat from Opta: "Tottenham’s total of 25 goals conceded in their opening 16 games is their third highest total at this stage of a Premier League season. "
    • 33' That was a rare chance for Swansea in this first half. They have played some nice stuff but have struggled to open up the home defence.
    • 32' Swansea threaten! Dwight Tiendalli bursts forward from the right and swings in a fine cross for Routledge, who just fails to get his head to the ball and score against his former side.
    • 30' Defoe looks rather unhappy after he lays the ball off to Sandro expecting the return pass, only to see the Brazilian produce a meek effort himself. He is a fine player, Sandro, but no goalscorer.
    • 29' More excellent defending from Williams as he sticks in a boot and does just enough to prevent Dempsey from getting a clean shot away following Walker's low cross.
    • 28' Stat from Opta: "Swansea’s scorer at White Hart Lane last season was Gylfi Sigurdsson who scored seven goals in 18 Premier League games for the Welsh side before joining Spurs in the summer."
    • 27' De Guzman with a deep, curling free-kick from the right but Spurs head clear as Chico and Michu attack the ball.
    • 26' Sandro gets a bit over-excited as he hurls himself into a challenge in midfield. Dempsey had already been penalised for a foul on Dyer though. Free-kick to Swansea either way.
    • 25' Superb interplay between Lennon and Sandro as a one-two sets the winger free in the box. However, his low cross for Defoe is cut out by the ever attentive Williams.
    • 24' A cross comes in from the right and Dempsey rises above his man to get a looping header on target. However, it lacks the velocity or accuracy to trouble Tremmel, who plucks it out of the air.
    • 23' Adebayor tries to lead an attack down the left wing but Swansea shirts get across to hound him off the ball. Now Ki presses up hard on Dempsey. You certainly cannot fault the visitors for effort.
    • 21' Sloppy again from Ki as he gives Sandro a chance to win the ball and is then dispossessed by the sliding Brazilian. The South Korea international has had a mixed afternoon so far.
    • 20' The possession is a dead heat at 50-50 at present. Spurs have had the better openings at home though, and now Defoe fires a shot wide on the turn.
    • 19' Sandro produces a fine spin to lose his man and Spurs start to play the ball around confidently before Swansea defend in numbers.
    • 18' Adebayor wins a free-kick wide on the left wing and when the set-piece comes in the striker just fails to get the necessary contact on the ball. Still, Spurs win a corner which is headed away by Michu.
    • 17' Stat from Opta: "Spurs have won 12 and lost none of their 14 league meetings at home against Swansea."
    • 16' Walker it is who takes the free-kick but he thumps the ball right into Britton, who forms part of the wall. Spurs on top now as Swansea suffer from some poor passing.
    • 15' As play continues, Naughton is felled by a reckless slide from Dyer and the Swansea man is booked.
    • 14 More sloppy play, this time from Ki as he gives the ball away to Walker. The right-back fizzes in a cross but Adebayor is denied by a superb block from Chico.
    • 13' Big chance! Swansea give away possession carelessly through Michu and Moussa Dembele carries the ball before playing in Defoe with a neat backheel. Just as the striker pulls the trigger though, Michu recovers with a superb block.
    • 12' Nice work from Defoe as he carves out the first chance of the game. The striker cuts back onto his right foot to lose Chico in the box but his shot is weak and too close to Tremmel.
    • 12' Dempsey brings down Dyer with a clumsy trip and referee Mike Dean tells him he has now committed two fouls. That's a warning for the Spurs midfielder.
    • 11' Excellent tackle from Williams. Defoe tries to sneak past the defender on the edge of the box but he puts in a firm tackle to halt the Spurs striker. Now Chico does likewise.
    • 10' Defoe fires in a cross that catches Williams, with the striker appealing for a penalty. It appeared to strike his torso near his right arm though so it was never a spot-kick.
    • 9' Ashley Williams pings a pass out wide to the right wing but Dyer is unable to get the ball under control on the touchline so it's a throw to Spurs in their own half.
    • 8' Adebayor and Clint Dempsey link up neatly in the box but Chico makes an important interception as the striker prepares to take command of the ball 10 yards from goal.
    • 7' Ki spots Dyer making a run but can't find his team-mate with a through-ball. Ki is sitting deep with Britton today with De Guzman pushed up in support of Michu.
    • 6' Gerhard Tremmel has to sprint across his line to prevent a loose pass from Chico from going out of play. Meanwhile, the Swansea fans think it acceptable to start greeting each pass with 'ole'.
    • 5' The ball comes in to Michu again, this time from Ben Davies, and the Spaniard lets it run through his legs before deflecting off Jan Vertonghen and going behind for a corner. The set-piece comes to Ki, who flicks it on through his legs, but Chico Flores can't hit the target from a tight angle at the back post.
    • 4' Spurs almost let Michu in with a slack piece of play from Kyle Walker but Spurs shirts converge on the Spaniard just as he tooks to spot a chance to shoot.
    • 3' Now Spurs start to spread the ball around the pitch. Lots of nice short passes on display so far from two teams who appear on the 'attractive' end of the stylistic spectrum.
    • 2' A sustained spell of possession from Swansea to kick us off but Kyle Naughton robs the ball from Dyer on the Spurs left.
    • 1' KICK OFF! Spurs kicking right to left.
    • 13:30 Out come the teams at an overcast White Hart Lane. Spurs in their home shirts, Swansea in their red change strip. Handshakes negotiated without complication.
    • 13:25 Who do you fancy today then? I'm going for a score draw. Let me know what you think on Twitter. Follow Tom Adams on Twitter!
    • 13:20 Tottenham haven't often played a 4-4-2 this season and Defoe has had a productive campaign up on his own, but Villas-Boas wants to accommodate Adebayor as well today. It might be a bit risky, leaving Spurs short in midfield with Dembele and Sandro up against a three of De Guzman, Britton and Ki.
    • 13:15 Time for some Opta stats: "If games had lasted 80 minutes this season then Spurs would be top of the table. Tottenham’s total of 25 goals conceded in their opening 16 games is their third highest total at this stage of a Premier League season. Swansea have won three of their last five Premier League games in London, including last time out at Arsenal."
    • 13:10 Swansea have won three in their past five outings in the Premier League, including their last visit to North London as they defeated Arsenal 2-0 at Emirates Stadium a fortnight ago. Michu has already matched Swansea’s 2011-12 top scorer Danny Graham’s total of 12 goals from last season and has scored five of Swansea’s 10 Premier League goals netted away from home this season.
    • 13:05 Spurs saw a run of four consecutive victories end in a 2-1 reversal at Everton last week but in general Andre Villas-Boas has done a decent job with the North London club. They have aspirations of Champions League football and opposite number Michael Laudrup thinks they qill finish in the top four.
    • 13:00 Gareth Bale misses out against the Premier League's Welsh club due to a hamstring injury but Scott Parker makes the bench for the first time this season after overcoming an Achilles problem. Swansea welcome back key defender Ashley Williams from suspension but Pablo Hernandez is still absent due to injury. Michu - scorer of 12 goals this season - starts in attack.
    • 12:55 TEAMS: Tottenham: Lloris, Walker, Vertonghen, Gallas, Naughton, Sandro, Dembele, Lennon, Dempsey, Adebayor, Defoe. Subs: Friedel, Parker, Huddlestone, Sigurdsson, Livermore, Townsend, Caulker. /// Swansea: Tremmel, Tiendalli, Williams, Chico, Davies, Britton, De Guzman, Ki, Dyer, Routledge, Michu. Subs: Cornell, Monk, Richards, Shechter, Agustien, Moore, Graham.
    • 12:50 A win today will take Tottenham joint third with Chelsea on 29 points, having played a game more, while three points takes Swansea level with Spurs and West Brom but into fifth place on goal difference.

  1. 3 points just what we needed thank you

From David R, on Mon 17 Dec 9:22
  2. I will feel so much better when BAE and Kaboul are fully fit and back. Naughton is a liability and Gallas worries me. Still we won and that's another 3 points with a 75% full strength side. Parker will tighten up the midfield. Adebayor needs to get long term absence. He holds the ball up well but his final pass is woeful then, because he's having a mare I'm sure he feigns an 'injury'. We must buy a clinical finisher in the January window. Defoe is awesome when he's on song but he still missed 2 glorious 1 on 1 chances today. Stoke next week will be another toughie then Villa away won't be easy but if we can get a minimum of 4 points from those 2 games it will have been a good Xmas presssie.

  3. Even with Mancini time Swansea could not manage it.

From JAMES, on Sun 16 Dec 16:58
  4. Great Result boys - But why does AVB persist in Gallas? The guys is a liability and has cost us at least 5 goals this season (2 against Chelski), Caulker and Dawson are twice the players.

  5. Thank you Jan ! What a strike, good game, swans were negative, but they do look oh so comfortable on the ball. Thought all the spurs players put in a great shift to keep the high line and put pressure

  6. Another scared team. Why bother playing Swansea. You cannot sit back and defend from the beginning of the game. They had a lot of open space, but do not attack.

  7. good win nice to see acl;ean sheet

From ALAN, on Sun 16 Dec 15:42
  8. Swansea are like liverpool. obsessed with passes & possession %. They won on both counts, but Spurs had 8 shots on target compared with ZERO from swansea. Pass, pass, pass -- yawn
