    • - Valdes gets a yellow card and then a red card for shouting in the referee's face. A sad end to the game for the Catalans. Ramos is smiling as he walks off, he scored the winning goal and got away with it when he brought Adriano down in the box right at the death.
    • 90+3 Ugly scenes as the match ends in defeat for Barcelona. The Barça players surround the referee who denied them a clear penalty in the final seconds.
    • 90+2' Barcelona clear their lines and an ugly foul by Arbeloa on Alexis gets a yellow card and it could have been worse. Then Ramos brings Adriano down in the box and the referee says no to a clear penalty. Iniesta then also gets booked for protesting.
    • 90' Alves gets a yellow card for diving in on Ronaldo who milks it of course. A free kick in a great position and a chance to run down the clock for Madrid.
    • 89' Modric takes the corner and this time Pique is alert to the danger heading clear for a Madrid throw in.
    • 88' Ronaldo stays on the attack and a run down the left wing wins a corner for the hosts.
    • 87' Ronaldo almost makes it 3-1 with a stunning free kick which crashes off the bar from 25 yards out. The rebound falls to Pepe who can't put it home.
    • 85' Tello comes on for Thiago.
    • 84' What a week this would be for Real Madrid fans if the team can hold on for a second victory in five days against Barça.
    • 83' Roura will be furious with his defenders there, a soft corner to give away and slack marking as the ball came in from Modric.
    • 82' GOAL!!! Pique and Alves get confused and give away a corner needlessly and then pay a hefty price. Modric's curled cross in gleefully headed home by Ramos. It's 2-1!
    • 81' Madrid are not helped by this delay as Essien requires treatment for a moment. He was caught with a finger in the eye - unintentionally - by Alexis Sanchez.
    • 80' The home crowd are in good voice willing Mourinho's side to get a winning goal as we go into the last ten minutes of the match.
    • 79' Ronaldo tries a backwards header on goal from a Modric cross and the ball goes out for a goal kick to Barcelona.
    • 78' Pedro departs with a limp and Adriano comes on for the final 12 minutes or so.
    • 77' At the other end a Barça counter attack is halted as Alexis is felled by Callejon.
    • 76' A superb through ball from Pepe gives Morata a great chance and he really should score after taking a good first touch. Valdes comes out and gets a vital touch to prevent Morata giving Madrid the lead.
    • 75' Barça have lost only three matches in the last 10 years in the league at the Bernabeu. Will that change in the next 15 minutes?
    • 74' This is more like a Clasico now, big challenges flying in all over the park!
    • 73' Ronaldo has four goals in the last four matches with Barcelona and he’d love to increase that tally now. In fact he’s scored 10 of Madrid’s last 20 goals against Barcelona.
    • 71' Collector's item. A yellow card for World Player of the Year Messi for a shoulder barge on Essien. A daft yellow really.
    • 70' A good run from Ronaldo on the left sees him get a half chance, but under pressure from Pique he shoots wide at the near post.
    • 69' Mourinho makes his final change as he sends on Arbeloa for Coentrao.
    • 68' A tug from Morata on Messi earns yet another yellow card for Madrid.
    • 67' A change for Barcelona. Alexis on for Villa.
    • 65' Thiago gets booked for pulling back Pepe and then Ronaldo drives a fierce free kick at the Barcelona goal which Valdes does well to save. A good effort.
    • 64' Now there is another yellow card for Madrid as Coentrão raises a hand to Alves' face and Barcelona can push forward for this free kick. Messi wastes the free kick though.
    • 62' Ronaldo should go into the book for a foul on Mascherano but escapes unpunished.
    • 61' Madrid can't take advantage of their free kick and Barcelona are relieved to get the ball clear.
    • 60' Ronaldo replaced Benzema and Kaka is replaced by Khedira. Ronaldo's first act was to draw a foul from Pique in a great position on the Madrid left. The big Barcelona centre back gets a soft yellow card from the referee.
    • 59' Ronaldo comes on for Madrid and the crowd rise to salute their hero. Sami Khedira is also coming on.
    • 58' Messi provides a good chance for Villa and the Spaniard sprints into the box where he is well tracked by Varane and Madrid end up with a goal kick.
    • 57' Ronaldo is lacing up his lovely pink boots and preparing to come on. He loves playing against Barcelona....
    • 56' We see another yellow card as Alba climbs all over Pepe and the referee puts the Catalan defender in the book.
    • 55' Thiago's corner for Barcelona was cleared quickly by Ramos, but the away side stay on the attack.
    • 54' Great play by Messi to feed Alba whose dangerous looking cross zips across the Madrid box and Ramos clears the ball for a Barça corner. Villa was lurking menacingly.
    • 53' Ramos gets the first yellow card of the game for a handball.
    • 52' Ronaldo is warming up and the fans want to see him come on as soon as possible. There were no changes at half time by either side.
    • 51' Messi's takes charge of the free kick and crosses into the box only for the referee to spot a foul by Villa and Madrid can breathe again.
    • 50' Varane shoulder charges Pedro to the ground on the Barcelona right and the visitors have another free kick.
    • 49' Mascherano tries to beat Lopez from 50 yards with the free kick but shoots off target.
    • 48' Modric's delivery is not bad but Barcelona manage to clear at the second attempt via Busquets. As Barça counter attack Essien fouls Villa and Barcelona have a free kick of their own.
    • 47' A foul by Thiago on Coentrão on the left gives Modric a chance to cross in a good position.
    • 46' The second half starts with Real Madrid taking the restart and going on the attack down the left.
    • 45' An even first half comes to an end and 1-1 is a fair scoreline. This is one of the most relaxed Clasicos for quite some time. No-one over extending themself and no yellow cards thus far. Pepe or Busquets might see to that in the second half...
    • 44' The home crowd and some of the Madrid players want Pique to be booked for what is the slightest touch on Benzema in the centre circle. The referee says no.
    • 43' Alba and Villa reach the Madrid penalty area and have a good chance to create something but a loose final ball from Villa sees the ball go out for a goal kick.
    • 42' Pepe is complaining after he gets a knock from Alba. The phrase 'likes to give it out but can't take it himself' comes to mind!
    • 41' A win or a draw for FC Barcelona today would see them equal their best ever sequence of results away to Madrid, set between 1969/70 and 1973/74.
    • 40' That was perhaps the best chance of the game other than the goals. Half the crowd thought it was in, but alas no.
    • 39' An awesome cross from the right from Modric gives Morata a great chance to head on goal but the young Spaniard appears to panic and directs the ball into the side netting.
    • 38' More patient play from Barcelona before Iniesta plays Villa clear on the right. His cross is fierce though and hits the corner flag on the other side of the pitch.
    • 37' Benzema is penalised for a soft foul on Busquets who dives on the floor. Get up man.
    • 36' Real Madrid are 24 games unbeaten at home in the league (20 wins, 4 draws) since a 1-3 setback against today’s opponents in December 2011.
    • 34' The level of technical ability whenever these sides play each other is a joy to behold. At the moment it's tight though with Madrid playing a controlled game and Barcelona resisting their attacking urges. I think Barça might go for it more after the break.
    • 33' Good battles between Pepe and Iniesta in midfield and Callejon and Alba on the Madrid right see the home side making progress before the Catalans manage to clear their lines.
    • 32' Great chance for Messi!!! Villa's run down the left ends with a quality pass inside to Messi and he is clear on the edge of the box with space between Varane and Ramos. This time though his shot is tame and Lopez saves easily.
    • 30' Messi and Iniesta drop deep to try and create from the half way line but Madrid have 11 players behind the ball.
    • 29' Commentator's curse? Essien gives away the ball for a Barcelona goal kick when in a good advanced position.
    • 28' Madrid look the better side at present with Essien enjoying some good space down their right. Barcelona need to tighten up in midfield where Modric and Pepe are working harder.
    • 27' This game could be a big chance for Kaka as the Brazilian midfielder was excellent against Deportivo de la Coruña last week and he is looking to cement his place in Mourinho’s team. But he's been pretty quiet so far, the game passing him by somewhat.
    • 26' Barcelona play the ball back to Madrid but do so as far forward as possible forcing the hosts to take a throw in close to their goal line when the original foul on Pepe was close to the Barça box. Silly stuff.
    • 25' Pepe throws himself to the ground trying to get Thiago booked for a late challenge. The ball is played out and Barcelona don't like this.
    • 24' The game has slowed up slightly after those two early goals. Madrid are starting to get some joy in midfield.
    • 23' Actually whatever the result this afternoon, Barça are sure to leave the Bernabeu with their biggest ever advantage over Madrid after an away game against Real – even a 13 point lead would take that record. But the Catalans want that lead to be 16, or even better 19 points!
    • 22' The Madrid fans are calling for a penalty after a Morata cross hits Iniesta's face! The fans thought Pique had handled it...
    • 21' So Messi now has a goal from each of his last 16 appearances for Barcelona in La Liga. What a player. And there are people saying he looks tired recently!
    • 19' Messi went clear through, beating the offside trap and teasing Ramos who caught up with him in the box, before the South American genius slipped the ball past Lopez at the near post. The goalkeeper won't want to watch the replays of that.
    • 18' GOAL!!! Messi extends his amazing goal-scoring run as he tucks away a simple equaliser.
    • 17' A clever pass from Alves on the right almost plays Messi in, the Argentine chasing the pass through before goalkeeper Diego Lopez tidies up.
    • 16' Morata is fouled by Pique and Madrid drive a free kick into the Barça box, before Thiago heads the danger clear.
    • 15' Iniesta plays Pedro through down the right and he is looking for Messi in the centre but Morata and Coentrão surround him and Madrid win a goal kick.
    • 14' Barcelona have a good recent record at the Bernabeu in La Liga - they’ve not lost at this ground for four seasons, recording three wins and a draw on their last four visits. So they won't be too worried yet, as they have plenty of time to turn this around!
    • 13' Messi tries to find a way through the traffic in the Madrid defence only to overrun the ball, which is then pumped forward and is too long for Morata to collect.
    • 12' Ramos and Varane are in fact the centre halves today as Pepe is playing in centre midifeld with Modric.
    • 11' Madrid clear their lines and push forward after a foul on Sergio Ramos just inside the penalty box by Villa.
    • 10' In Madrid’s last five league games in the league, they have four wins and one loss to their name. That one setback a few weeks back at Granada and since then Real have picked up maximum points against Sevilla (4-1 win), Rayo Vallecano (2-0 win), and Deportivo de la Coruña (1-2 win).
    • 8' Good work from Thiago, Messi and Iniesta as they look to hit back quickly. Nice combination play between those three on the edge of the Madrid box before Alves gives the ball away.
    • 7' That was slack defending from Alves and Valdes could also have reacted quicker. The Madrid fans are loving it in the packed stands of this impressive stadium.
    • 6' GOAL!!! A great start for the hosts and they have the lead after six minutes. A good run down the left by Morata who beats Alves and crosses for Benzema who taps it home.
    • 5' That man Messi gets involved and goes on a little jinking run through midfield before playing the ball forward to... no-one in particular.
    • 4' Stat attack: Messi recently broke the league record of scoring in ten consecutive away games and has scored in each of Barcelona’s last 15 league games home and away (also a La Liga record).
    • 2' But Barcelona get the ball back and keep possession for a spell, passing it around smoothly.
    • 1' Barcelona kick off and an early mistake from Jordi Alba gives Real Madrid a throw in.
    • 14.55 The teams are coming out of the tunnel onto a perfect pitch in the afternoon sunshine at the Bernabeu and the nerves are tingling as they always do in this wonderful fixture. Arguably the greatest domestic match up in world football...
    • 14.50 Of course Barça have gone on to extend that advantage with a ruthless run of form in the league and they arrive at the Bernabeu with a 16 point advantage, their biggest lead ever over Real before a game in Madrid.
    • 14.45 That last league clash was an absolute belter of a game so let’s hope for something similar today. On that occasion Real Madrid took an early lead through Cristiano Ronaldo, before Leo Messi hit back with a brace – the second of Messi’s goals being a memorably spectacular free kick to give his side the lead. Ronaldo was to have the final say as he equalised five minutes after Messi’s 60th minute free kick, but the result left Los Blancos still eight points behind their great rivals in the table.
    • 14.40 This is the sixth meeting between these two teams this season as they have already faced each other over two legs in the Spanish Supercopa and the Copa del Rey, as well as a league meeting at the Camp Nou in week seven of La Liga back in October.
    • 14.35 The game is almost an inconvenience for Real Madrid, given that they have little chance of stopping Barcelona from winning the title (they are 16 points behind the Catalans in the table) and that they travel to Manchester this week for that aforementioned last 16 Champions League second leg fixture at Old Trafford.
    • 14.30 Ahead of the game Roura commented: "The league perhaps doesn’t seem so important as we have such a big lead, but this is the title which rewards real excellence so that’s why it’s so important to us. The advantage we have in the league speaks for itself because we’ve done really well and that is down to the players. It’s difficult to maintain the performance level throughout the entire year but the approach of our players is superb."
    • 14.25 Barcelona’s caretaker boss Jordi Roura is without midfield genius Xavi (hamstring) and the likes of Abidal, Montoya and Dos Santos, who did not make the 19-man squad for this game. Victor Valdes returns to the starting side and Roura fields a strong, attacking team despite Xavi’s absence and captain Puyol being on the bench, with Mascherano preferred as Pique’s centre half partner today.
    • 14.20 Jose Mourinho has given some thought to his team’s forthcoming trip to Manchester United, so the big news is that Ronaldo is on the bench for this game and the likes of Khedira, Özil and Higuain are also subs today. Nonetheless this is a Clasico and Madrid start with a strong side, they would never willingly concede ground in this fixture of course. They are without Angel di Maria, due to suspension, and talismanic goalkeeper Iker Casillas who is still injured.
    • 14.15 Teams: REAL MADRID: Diego Lopez, Varane, Pepe, Sergio Ramos, Coentrão, Kaká, Benzema, Essien, Modric, Callejon, Morata… Subs: Adán, Khedira, Cristiano Ronaldo, Özil, Carvalho, Arbeloa, Higuaín /// BARCELONA: Valdes, Alves, Pique, Mascherano, Alba, Busquets, Thiago, Iniesta, Villa, Messi, Pedro… Subs: Pinto, Puyol, Cesc Fabregas, Song, Adriano, Alexis, Tello.
    • 14.10 This Clasico showdown gives visitors Barça an immediate chance to exact revenge for that humiliating cup defeat and at the same time take a huge step towards taking the La Liga title from Madrid. It is also a chance to regain form after their recent painful defeat to Milan at the San Siro in the Champions League. We still await the team line-ups!
    • 14.05 Only five days after their Copa del Rey showdown, which resulted in an emphatic 3-1 (4-2 aggregate) win for Real Madrid in Barcelona, these two old enemies face off again this afternoon in a 4pm kick off (Spanish time) at the Bernabéu. We await the announcement of the starting line-ups.
    • 14.00 Good afternoon and welcome to LIVE coverage of this La Liga clash between Real Madrid and Barcelona at the Santiago Bernabeu in the Spanish capital.
