Killie hold Gers in scrappy contest

Kilmarnock and Rangers both finished with 10-men after a scrappy 0-0 draw at Rugby Park in the SPL. More

  • Live Commentary

    Time:90'
    • Kilmarnock
    • Rangers
    • FT And there is the final whistle. Scrappy stuff to be honest. The result means Rangers go one point clear of Celtic at the top of the table but their Old Firm rivals will leapfrog them if they can beat Hearts at Celtic Park on Sunday.
    • 90+4 Rangers wins a free down the right and Rothen whips it in - panic stations for a moment but Killie clear.
    • 90+3 McGregor and Sammon have a little tete-a-tete and Sammon goes into the book. The referee must be running out of ink.
    • 90' ANOTHER yellow-card for Taouil this time as he takes too long over a free-kick.
    • 89' McCulloch does well to head away a good corner from Bryson.
    • 87' Thompson has looked rusty since coming on and has just give the ball away cheaply as the clock ticks on.
    • 85' Ball falls to Skelton on the edge of the box but he side-foots a shot well over the bar.
    • 85' Papac has to head a dangerous cross from Hamill away for a corner.
    • 84' Mark Brown does well to dive and gather a low cross from Davis with Miller lurking.
    • 83' The ball deflects into the path of Sammon in the box - he turns and fires a close range shot but McGregor makes a good save.
    • 82' Angelina Jolie doesn't get this many cards on Valentine's Day. Rothen now booked for a bad tackle.
    • 80' PASCALL IS NOW SENT-OFF - A second yellow card for tugging Davis. The referee has lost control of this match.
    • 77' Kyle is now getting a yellow card for pushing in the box although it seems the referee only booked him after McGregor told him too.
    • 76' Nice bit of skill from Taouil sees him skip past Weir and the leg comes out to bring down the Moroccan. That's a yellow card for Weir.
    • 74' Kyle with a good flick on into the box but there is no Killie man on the end of it.
    • 73' Killie make a change too with Taouil coming on for Invincibile.
    • 72' In between the free-kick Rangers made a change with new-boy Rothen coming on for Naismith.
    • 71' Wright makes a hash of trying to defend a ball that falls to him. He ends up handling the ball and gives away a free-kick on the edge of the area. Chance here. Thompson though fires into the wall.
    • 70' Decent ball from Whittaker from the right but O'Leary makes a solid defensive header.
    • 69' All getting a bit scrappy again. Have we had our fill of excitement?
    • 67' AWFUL pass by Naismith - he broke clear after picking up a poor pass from Skelton and Kenny Miller made a good run but he just pass it straight to a Kilmarnock shirt.
    • 65' Naismith is rightly annoyed after he was fouled under the nose of the referee by Bryson and no free-kick was awarded.
    • 63' Good run from Papac down the left - he puts in a low cross and O'Leary does well to stick a leg out to clear the danger.
    • 62' Invincibile gets a "shot" on target but there is no pace on it.
    • 62' Well more has happened in the first 15 minutes of this half than in the entire first-half
    • 60' Miller nearly makes an immediate impact as he gets a header on a cross in the box - but his back was to goal and that loops well over the bar.
    • 59' Rangers make a double change. Nacho Novo and Kris Boyd are going off and Kenny Miller and Kevin Thomason come on.
    • 58' Hamill in the book for a tackle on Novo.
    • 57' Fleck now works a little room on the edge of the box and curls a good shot on target that Brown pushes away.
    • 56' OFF THE POST FROM Hamill - A cross for the right falls to him at the far post and he hammers a sweet volley only to see it cannon off the post. McGregor might have even got a slight touch on that.
    • 55' It has been confirmed that Clancy has a dislocated elbow.
    • 54' Hamill now tries a fancy lob but that goes well wide. Killie really on top at the moment.
    • 53' Invincibile MISSES A SITTER - good work from Sammon down the right - he whips in a cross, there is mis-communication between McCulloch and McGregor and he heads it over the keeper to the back post where Invincibile is. The Killie man heads it on target but Papac clears but it comes straight back to Invincibile only for him to then blaze it over the bar.
    • 51' From the corner Pascall gets his head on it but it goes wide of the target. Good start to the half for Killie though.
    • 50' Skelton is involved straight down the right and the attack ends up with Hamill curling a shot from distance towards the low corner of the net. Not much power but McGregor still has to push it away for a corner.
    • 49' Terrible tackle from Boyd on Clancy down the touchline and Boyd is finally booked. He is lucky that yellow has not come sooner. Clancy heads straight for the tunnel in serious pain. It looks like he has injured his arm, Gavin Skelton comes on.
    • 47' Kyle and Invincibile link up well down the right. Invincibile puts in a low cross and it looks like McCulloch will deal with it easily but he slips and there is a little panic before Rangers finally clear.
    • 46' And we are back underway. No Rangers changes despite being down to 10 men.
    • HT And there is the half-time whistle. The third Rangers sending-off of the season is the big talking point at the break.
    • 45+2 Papac counters down the left - he puts in a low cross and it is not dealt with by the Killie defence - it comes back to the full-back and he fires a low shot from a tight angle that Brown has to save.
    • 45' Well that has added some excitement to a very dull match - Kris Boyd has just flung himself into a tackle but he won the ball this time. He certainly has seen the red rag though now. How will he channel that energy though?
    • 43' PEDRO MENDES HAS BEEN SENT-OFF!!!! A second yellow card for a foul on Bryson - he cannot really have any complaints. Kris Boyd is furious and lucky not to get a yellow card for complaining and Walter Smith is also going barmy too AND HE IS BANISHED TO THE STANDS. Really though, if Rangers see the replay they can have no complaints. Kilmarnock could actually be angry that advantage wasn't played as they had a chance to attack.
    • 42' Again Hamill has a chance to cross down the right and again it is poor.
    • 40' A ball into the right channel of the box nearly finds Naismith but Invincibile just shepherds him out of the way and the ball goes out for a free-kick.
    • 39' Invincibile with a soft foul on Papac in a decent area 40 yards out and to the left of the goal. But Mendes's cross into the box cannot find a red shirt.
    • 38' Davis overhits a pass to Whittaker despite only being five yards from him. Sums up Rangers performance so far.
    • 36' Pascall becomes the first Killie man in the book for a heavy tackle.
    • 35' Naismith shoots from outside the box - it seems to take a deflection on the way and Brown has to improvise and stick a foot out to save.
    • 34' Brown spills a low deflected cross and it falls to Boyd but his back is to goal and he has to play it out. It does lead to a corner though.
    • 33' The abll now bounces up for Naismith on the edge of the box but it goes well over the bar. Poor again.
    • 31' Mendes has space on outside the box to drill in a shot but he drags it well wide again.
    • 30' Hamill has lots of time down the right to deliver a cross but it is a terrible ball and goes over and wide.
    • 29' Boyd is not exactly earning the love of his former fans - he goes in with another clumsy challenge. No booking again though.
    • 27' Well if anybody was feeling a little sleepy after a Friday night on the beer this match so far would not exactly wake you into life. Poor fare so far. Rangers may be suffering a bit of a Champions League hangover?
    • 25' Hamill is down needing treatment after getting Boyd's hand in his face. It was dangerously close to being an elbow but the referee saw nothing wrong with it and awarded a drop ball as opposed to a free. Hamill is up now and seems to be okay.
    • 23' Kilmarnock have had a few frees down the left but the quality into the box has not been great. Hamill overcooks the latest effort.
    • 22' Fleck with a cheeky trip off the ball on Hamill - if the referee saw that then he would probably have been booked.
    • 21' Whittaker makes good run down the right but then Frazer Wright comes in with a great crushing tackle.
    • 20' Jim Jeffries will be a happy man so far. 20 minutes gone and not only is it still scoreless but Rangers have not even created a chance yet. It's been a poor game but Killie would love a boring 0-0.
    • 18' Naismith has a little chat with young John Fleck after a mistimed pass.
    • 17' Mendes goes in the book for a tackle on Clancy - he cannot really have any complaints with that.
    • 16' Nice work on the edge of the box for Rangers and it is checked back to Mendes - he fires on goal but it is deflected wide for a corner and nothing comes of that.
    • 14' Bryson fires a shot from distance that is blocked by McCulloch and then Kyle gets his head on Clancy's cross but can only head it back out of the box - still positive signs for Killie.
    • 12' Rangers are unbeaten in 14 SPL games all told and they are certainly stroking the ball around with a degree of confidence.
    • 10' Still waiting for our first chance of the match so far. Rangers the better side so far but Killie are competing.
    • 9' Fleck whips in a corner but Kilmarnock defend it well.
    • 8' First chance of the match actually falls for Kilmarnock. A cross from the right finds the head of Conor Sammon but the Irishman can only glance the header and McGregor gathers with ease.
    • 7' Alanj is so sure that Boyd will score twice against his former club today that he has commented as much six times! Fell free to leave your match comments below.
    • 6' Rangers have to do a bit of defending for the first time in the game down their left but Killie cannot create anything in the final third.
    • 5' Davis works an angle down the right but his cross is straight at Mark Brown who is being booed by the Rangers fans. No prizes for guessing which club he is on loan from.
    • 4' Naismith fails to link up with Boyd on the edge of the box. Two former Killie men of course.
    • 3' As you would expect Rangers having the bulk of the possession at the moment but still no chances.
    • 2' Boyd finds enough space on the right of the box to dig out a cross but there is nobody there for him in the middle.
    • 1' And Rangers in their changed colours of red get us underway.
    • - Rugby Park is a very happy hunting ground for Rangers - they have not lost here in 27 games. 1994 was the last time Killie beat Rangers at their home ground.
    • - For all of today's other SPL teams news, as well as the latest ahead of Celtic's game with Hearts tomorrow just click here: Team news: Aluko row resolved
    • - Rangers are top of the table on goal difference at the moment from Celtic. Kilmarnock are ninth with just one win to their name. SPL table
    • - Kevin Kyle returns for Kilmarnock. Kyle came off the bench in Tuesday night's 1-0 defeat at Hearts after making a swift recovery from cartilage surgery.
    • - Rangers are sure to be in confident mood after their great result at Stuttgart in the Champions League earlier this week but their hero of that night Madjid Bougherra is suspended so 39-year-old David Weir comes back in.
    • - Rangers: McGregor, Whittaker, Papac, Weir, McCulloch, Mendes, Naismith, Davis, Fleck, Novo, Boyd Subs: Alexander, Thomson, Rothen, Miller, Smith, Little, Wilson
