    • 120' BIG CHANCE! Anelka finds Govou but he fires over from 5 yards.
    • 120' A late free kick from McGeady is nodded back by Dunne but teh keeper gathers.
    • 119' Great keeping from Lloris who comes off his line to claim a high ball under pressure from Dunne.
    • 115' France look fairly comfortable at the moment, controlling the ball, but is there one last chance for Ireland?
    • 109' The ball falls to Gibson 35 yards out and he senses glory, but lashes his effort high over the top.
    • 107' Ireland throw on McGeady for Lawrence.
    • 106' The second half of extra-time is underway.
    • 105' Half time in extra time and France are back in the driving set, but it was a shocker. The word cheat is tough, but that was cheating.
    • 103' GOAL FRANCE! The Irish defence is breached and it's Gallas who turns the ball in from close range. The Irish are incensed as it's a clear handball, not once but twice from Henry shortly before he flicks the ball across for Gallas. It's a shocker.
    • 102' Govou is flagged marginally offside shortly before firing his shot past Given. It was tight but the right call.
    • 100' Ireland advance, Kilbane whips a great ball in that eludes everyone and goes a foot wide of the far post. It was one of those cross-shots that sometimes sneak in.
    • 98' HUGE MOMENT! Anelka breaks free and races into the box, he goes past Given and tumbles to the floor looking for the penalty. The ref has none of it and gives a goal kick. No card for Anelka, but the decision about the pen is spot on.
    • 93' Anelka collects the ball 25 yards out and shifts it onto his right foot, he shoots powerfully but a yard wide of target.
    • 90' It's full time and we will have an extra 30 minutes and maybe penalties
    • 90' Henry retrieves a lost cause in the box and whips in a cross which Given parries and St Ledger lashes clear.
    • 90' Big chance in the last minute for France as Anelka dashes forward on the left but he overhits his cross.
    • 87' France make their final change and it's Malouda for Gourcuff. So we won't see Benzema.
    • 85' Five minutes left for play and this could be heading for extra time. The sting has gone out of the game at the moment.
    • 83' Good handling from Lloris who comes into a crowd to gather a high cross.
    • 79' Squillaci is booked for a bit of back chat to the ref.
    • 78' France loft the ball over the top and Anelka looks to go through the gears, but Dunne stays with him and makes the clearance. Immense play.
    • 75' McShane is booked for a wild tackle on Anelka.
    • 73' GOLDEN CHANCE! Lawrence slips the ball in for Keane, he glides past the keeper but the ball runs away from him and out of play. Head in hands stuff for Ireland.
    • 72' Sagna goes past Duff far too easily and picks out Anelka but he glances his header wide. France look much brighter.
    • 71' Good handling from Given as Gourcuff whips in a dangerous free kick but the Irish keeper watches it all the way.
    • 70' GREAT BLOCK! Henry pulls into space and nods the ball back to Gourcuff, he lines up his shot and makes good contact but McShane throws himself into the path.
    • 66' A problem for Ireland as a limping John O'Shea is replaced by Paul McShane.
    • 62' France spring forward and Henry bursts into the box but the angle is too tight.
    • 61' HUGE CHANCE! Lassan Diarra is caught in possession, Ireland release Duff who sees the whites of Lloris's eyes but shoots weakly at the keeper. A massive chance.
    • 59' Suddenly France look brighter, Guorcuff is stopped mid-flight by Zinedine Kilbane and he is booked.
    • 56' Anelka and Sagna combine down the right, the ball is whipped in to Gignac who has his shot charged down by St Ledger. It is Gignac's last action as Govou is on to replace him. Not before time as far as France are concerned.
    • 54' 54 minutes in and Given is forced to make a save. Anelka picks up a pass from Evra and shoots from 30 yards, he strikes it well but Given is well placed to save.
    • 51' France spring forward and it's a shooting chance for Gignac but he pulls his shot well wide. He's been awful.
    • 51' Chanace again for Ireland, as the balll is pulled back by Keane looking for Lawrence but Evra sticks out a foot to make a great tackle.
    • 49' A long ball from St Ledger and Doyle has the run on his marker, but Squillaci shows good pace, or Doyle a lack of it, to get back.
    • 47' MASSIVE CHANCE! O'Shea is given the freedom of Paris at the back post, Lawrence picks him out and the Manchester United man has time to take the ball down but shoots over the top from seven yards. What an opportunity.
    • 46' The second half is underway and Lassana Diarra brings down Keane.
    • - The players are back out and Benzema still has his tracksuit on, so he's not coming on yet.
    • - My wingman at the Stade de France, this one is not Goose by the way, says 'Hope is a dangerous thing but the Irish section is a mix of excitement, nerves and most dangerous of all 'belief'. Those words have almost brought a tear to my eye.
    • 45' Whelan flasehs a free kick on goal from 30 yards, it looks on target but Evra gets a good head in the way. It's the last action of the half and the French are being jeered off.
    • 45' Anelka has looked France's brightest player and he shoots on target from 25 yards but Given makes the save.
    • 41' The ball falls to Gignac in acres of space on the edge of the box and it's a good shooting chance, but his touch is awful and Ireland clear. The crowd are on Gignac's back.
    • 39' Finally a bright bit of play from France. Sagna tricks his way past Duff and feeds Anelka who slips inside his marker and has a shot deflected wide. It at least got the crowd on their side, at least for a few seconds.
    • 35' France will have to show something now, a bit more than Gourcuff's wild shot over the top from 35 yards.
    • 32' GOAL IRELAND! It's huge. Duff breaks down the left, pulls the ball back for Keane who keeps his cool and slots the ball low into the corner. The Irish are going wild and it's nothing more than they deserve.
    • 29' Gignac lets a simple pass run under his boot and out of play. The crowd are not happy and after almost 30 minutes Shay Given has had nothing to do.
    • 26' CHANCE! Lawrence does superbly to whip the ball in from the right, Doyle has the run on Gallas but glances his effort wide from six yards. He MUST hit the target from there.
    • 24' Keane surges down the left but lacks support, the ball is kept in the danger zone and Lloris does superbly to race off his line and get there before Keane. Good keeping.
    • 20' The Irish hordes have been enjoying themselves in Paris and you can check out the pics from the day in our Match Gallery
    • 18' Solid defending from Evra at the back post as he positions himself superbly to get in between Duff and his target Lawrence.
    • 15' Moments of alarm for Ireland as Anelka's shot is deflected into the path of Gignac but his effort is charged down.
    • 13' Andrews puts his side under pressure with an awful defensive header, but from the corner Lassana Diarra shoots over the bar from 20 yards.
    • 10' France flex their muscles with a rapid break, Gourcuff shows his class with a turn and pass to Henry but St Ledger gets in the block.
    • 9' An early change for France as Escude leaves the field on Stretcher and is replaced by Squillaci.
    • 9' It's Ireland calling the shots at the moment, with France still down to ten men.
    • 6' As Escude receives treatment, my wingman who will be known as Goose tells me Ireland have never lost in 90 minutes when Robbie Keane has scored. Now that's a stat.
    • 5' Bright moments for Ireland, Doyle spins away from his marker and finds Duff who dinks the ball into the box but Evra shepherds the ball to safety.
    • 3' Half an opening for Ireland as Lawrence breaks down the right but his cross is poor.
    • 1' The pattern is possibly set as Ireland launch a long ball that is gathered by Lloris
    • 1' We are underway in Paris.
    • - We've just had a shot of Zidane and i reckon he could run rings round Keith Andrews even now.
    • - We've had the anthems and i've got to say i do like the French anthem. It's one of those ones that make you want to sing along.
    • - The players are making their way out and the question i have is: Who will be the first person to kick Lassan Diarra? I'm taking Kilbane, if he can get near him.
    • - It's warming up in the Stade de France. The heart says Ireland, but the head says France. Especially when you see the likes of Keith Andrews on the opposite side to Thierry Henry.
    • - The teams are in!...
    • - IRELAND: Given; O'Shea, St Ledger, Dunne, Kilbane; Lawrence, Whelan, Andrews, Duff; Doyle, Keane.
    • - FRANCE: Lloris; Sagna, Escude, Gallas, Evra; L Diarra, A Diarra, Henry, Gourcuff; Anelka, Gignac.
    • - Which brings us nicely to a quick plug... you can watch the Algeria-Egypt match live at 17:30 UK time via the Eurosport Player. Click here to subscribe!
    • - There is a man covered from head to foot in green lycra, prancing around Paris. Unfortunately, it is not our own man on the street. The last we heard from him was that he was on the Metro, soaking up the atmosphere amongst the Irish fans, although apparently the most animated person he has seen was an Algerian "giving it loads" ahead of tonight's other massive game - Algeria-Egypt.
    • - More updates from both sides of the Channel to come throughout the day as we build up to the big kick-off at 20:00 UK time, so make sure you keep dipping in and out.
    • - But Robbie Keane is confident his side can get the better of the French. Watch what the Ireland skipper has to say here
    • - Jim White believes it will be too much for the Irish tonight... find out why here
    • - Speaking of whom, our man on the ground in France has informed us that the Irish fans were, unsurprinsingly, in good spirits on the Eurostar over to Paris. During the journey there was talk of a 2,000-a-side game planned for five o'clock today under the Tour Eiffel. That could get interesting.
    • - The Irish will be relying on their plucky spirit and never-say-die attitude. Oh, and their hoardes of travelling fans who have already invaded the French capital.
    • - But it won't be easy. France proved at Croke Park that they have what it takes to make it to South Africa, Anelka in particular posing a real threat.
    • - France won the first leg 1-0 thanks to Nicolas Anelka's deflected strike, but the tie is anything but over and if the Irish can stay firm at the back, they have every chance of sealing a famous comeback.
    • - This is it. All or nothing. Ireland travel to Paris for the second leg of their World Cup play-off against France with a place at next summer's tournament in South Africa at stake.
  • Summary

    • 103' GOAL FRANCE! The Irish defence is breached and it's Gallas who turns the ball in from close range. The Irish are incensed as it's a clear handball, not once but twice from Henry shortly before he flicks the ball across for Gallas. It's a shocker.

  5. A disgrace to the sport of football. DISHONEST, LYING, CHEATING grown man. He even has the nerve to try and console the irish players, pure evil.
    no sportsmanship at all.

France for many years has been my favourite footballing nation, Zidane has always been the greatest to me. BUT TODAY, AS A FOOTBALL FANATIC, I BELIV FRANCE NEEDED TO CHEAT TO REACH SOUTH AFRICA.

    DISGUSTING

From Claude, on Fri 20 Nov 1:06AM
  6. Fifa can make a statement to every football nation across the world and make the much needed step forward for football once and for all firstly Fifa so called push for fair play in football and sportsman ship around the world. this is what should happen if Fifa can really do what they say this is what should be done. Fifa should give the replay but only 15 mins of a match then if no score then peno's. that is fair isnt it. They should then use video play back when needed for all football matches.and give Henry a ban of 6 months to make an eg of to show the rest of the players around the world that cheating will not be accepted if Henry doesnt get some kind of ban Fifa are giving out a bad message to every kid that see that cheating is ok. if Fifa dont suggest some kind of solution i will personally give up on football at this day of age this should not happen in the world of football.

  7. the french are all cheaters , disgusting , it's in their blood ,always playing dirty tricks since their history , the french league is full of match fixing ,referee tricks , doping , penalty diving and more........ SHAME ON FRANCE ! the worst example of country dishonesty in the world , and FIFA is ALWAYS trying everything to help them , don't forget the FAKE PENALTY they gave them at the world cup final in berlin
WHAT A DIVE FROM MALOUDA ! and the long hesitation before ejecting zidane , the referee didn't want to red card him , and how swiftly he invalidated (justly) Toni's goal for De Rossi offside , NOTE that squillaci offside wasn't called before Henry double handled the ball , it's all planned according to Platini scheme , CREEPY ! ...... THE IRISH KNOW THE FAIR PLAY FROM PLAYING ITALY AND THE CHEATING FROM FRANCE

  8. I'm french and I'm sad that we qualified this way. but you should not blame Henry or the referee. the problem comes from the Fifa. for decades they've always refused the video control. other sports use it, why not football ? this is not the first match with unfair result, and it won't be the last, unfortunately
replay ? it would be the best solution... and change the rules too

  13. Henry is a player and can play even by hand because it was a crush al moment and nerves was on the high and the referee is for not allowing doing that. and referee is to be blamed only. If FIFA is going to allow a reply for this game it mast be done for Russian as well because the first red card mast be show to Slovenian 2 players not to Russian . It is shame to have like that referees and those kind of people are NOT ALLOWED TO BE IN THE FOOTBALL SHAME SHAME SHAME AND AGAIN THOUSANDS SHAME.
