    • Republic of Ireland
    • France
    • 90' There's the final whistle, and there is a scuffle on the pitch as Gourcuff and Andrews get involved in a bit of verbals! It's all over until Wednesday, and France are in the driving seat.
    • 90+2' Florent Malouda comes on for Gignac with a minute to go.
    • 90+1' Only two minutes of added time to be played...
    • 90' Best controls a high ball from Andrews, but he is adjudged to have fouled Evra.
    • 89' A couple of minutes to go plus stoppage time, and it looks like Ireland will go to Paris needing a win.
    • 87' SO CLOSE IRELAND!! Abidal gives the ball away to Best who finds Keane and he helps the ball on to WHELAN!!!! Lloris comes out and makes a vital save!!
    • 86' McGeady comes forward with purpose and has a crack... the ball swerves well wide from 25 yards.
    • 85' First-time hit by Gourcuff, and it's rubbish... out for a throw.
    • 84' Poor, poor ball by Stephen Hunt. He surrenders possession and then Keane is penalised for a challenge on Sagna.
    • 83' France look really dangerous here, and a 2-0 scoreline would probably kill this tie off.
    • 81' Ireland change: Stephen Hunt on for Liam Lawrence.
    • 80' INCREDIBLE MISS GIGNAC!! A disastrous backpass from Kilbane lets Anelka in, Given saves but the ball falls to Gignac, who sends it out for a throw with the goal at his mercy! What a let-off for Ireland!
    • 78' Gignac spins past St Ledger and tries to get a shot away, but the Irish defender recovers in time to put the ball out for a corner.
    • 77' Keane goes shoulder-to-shoulder with Abidal, and it is the French defender who emerges with the ball.
    • 76' Aiden McGeady comes on for Damien Duff, who has been very good this evening.
    • 75' Well, it looks like FIFA are going to get their wish. Having seeded the play-offs to make life easier for the French, they have seen 'their boys' go in front, and unless Ireland make a breakthrough in the next 15 minutes it is hard to see them coming back.
    • 74' KEITH ANDREWS!!! Fires a dipping long-range volley straight at Lloris when he might have looked for Keane in space.
    • 72' GOAL!!! FRANCE LEAD!!! Nicolas Anelka shoots from the edge of the box, the ball takes a decisive touch off Sean St Ledger and goes in off the post. No chance Given.
    • 72' Ireland are very inelegant scrambling the ball away from danger, but they managhe to get the ball out.
    • 71' On comes Leon Best for Ireland with 20 minutes to go!
    • 69' Dunne slips and allows Evra to race through.. he pokes the ball away from Given and performs a superman dive... no penalty, says referee Brych!! It would have been a very harsh penalty and Evra certainly looked for the contact, but a close call!
    • 68' Duff crosses from the left for Doyle, who fails to control a difficult glancing header. Goal kick France.
    • 67' Slow French build-up comes to a head when Henry takes a left-foot shot, but sprays it high and wide.
    • 66' Played forward to Doyle, but the striker has no support whatsoever. How is he meant to do anything surrounded by five blue shirts and no green ones?
    • 65' Ireland are not helping themselves by giving the ball away much too easily.
    • 63' Doyle finds Duff wide on the right, who stands up a cross... claimed by Lloris.
    • 62' Gignac tests Given with a looping header... the keeper tips over but the offside flag has already gone up.
    • 60' Wasteful corner by Henry, who plays it towards Lassana Diarra at the edge of the box. It's a bad option, executed badly, and Ireland come away.
    • 59' France win a corner on their right, and again the centre-backs come forward into the Irish box.
    • 58' France look to build from midfield... Sagna is well forward down the right but gives possession away.
    • 57' Anelka hits a long shot, and once again it is straight at Given. By the way, that earlier shot was by Lassana Diarra, not Alou.
    • 56' DIARRA!!! Chests the ball down, lets it bounce once, then lashes a long range strike just wide from fully 35 yards!
    • 55' Kilbane takes a heavy touvh but then goes down under a clumsy challenge from Diarra. Ireland lump it long but the attack comes to nothing.
    • 53' Gourcuff carries the ball inside from the left and hits a low shot from the edge of the box.. straight at Given.
    • 52' Duff's corner is flicked on to O'Shea, who swivels and slices his shot terribly! Then an offside flag goes up for something or other...
    • 51' Duff crosses from the left, and the ball is deflected for a corner.
    • 49' A high, looping cross comes into the French box from the left, Lawrence is there but Lloris makes a good take.
    • 48' Keane races beyond the last man but he is rightly flagged offside.
    • 47' A dangerous cross from the French right scoots through the Irish box, and the visitors have started the second period positively.
    • 46' The late arrival of Eric Abidal delays the start of the second half, which is finally under way.
    • 45+2' That's half-time, and it's goalless. Both sides had their chances but no breakthrough.
    • 45' Attacking throw for Ireland on the right, but they cannot deliver a cross and the ball goes out for a goal kick.
    • 43' The ball drops for Alou Diarra at the edge of the box but the midfielder cannot get his volley away.
    • 42' The ball goes out off St Ledger and France have a throw deep inside Irish territory.
    • 41' Lawrence delivers a corner from the Irish right, but it is a poor, overhit ball in. France clear easily.
    • 39' Henry loses the ball to Andrews who then dawdles and lets the Barcelona man in... fires wide!!
    • 37' Henry carries the ball down the left and finds Evra, who is dispossessed - another huge cheer.
    • 36' Great skill by Lawrence to beat Evra and get his cross in from the right... cleared with a diving header.
    • 34' In (slight) fairness to Lawrence, his shot did take a touch off Sagna on its way wide. Should still have scored though.
    • 33' Sagna pursues Duff back into the Irish half but is then adjudged to have pulled the winger over.
    • 32' The Irish really have their tails up, but you cannot help but wonder how crucial that Liam Lawrence miss will be...
    • 30' Keane finds Doyle down the left channel... he centres it for ANDREWS!! Sidefoots wide from the edge of the box - should have done better!
    • 29' Gourcuff finds Gignac with a sublime flick, and the striker hits a powerful shot... well wide.
    • 28' LAWRENCE!!! WHAT A MISS!!! Doyle flicks a long ball on to Keane whose shot is blocked and the rebound falls for Lawrence who somehow fires wide with the goal at his mercy. How important will that moment be?
    • 26' Andrews falls awkwardly after going up for a header with Gourcuff. Again, no major harm done.
    • 25' GOURCUFF!! The first real shot of the evening from the Bordeaux man, but his low, left-foot strike is straight at Given.
    • 23' A breakdown in communication between Keane and Duff sees France win the ball back and Anelka wins a free-kick 25 yards from the Irish goal.
    • 22' Sagna goes down in a collision, but the Arsenal man is soon back on his feet and play resumes.
    • 21' France free-kick, and Gallas comes forward into the Irish box... Dunne whacks it clear.
    • 20' France are dominating possession and Ireland have 10 men behind the ball.
    • 19' Keith Andrews goes down injured after a mid-air collision with Alou Diarra... he'll be OK.
    • 17' French corner on the right, delivered with outswing... cleared easily.
    • 15' Lawrence crosses from the right but only has Keane to aim at and Lloris makes a comfortable catch.
    • 14' Good defensive midfield play by Glenn Whelan, who throws himself into a 50-50 with Evra and wins the ball cleanly!
    • 13' Doyle crosses low from the Irish left, it takes a touch off Gallas and Lloris makes a good adjustment to catch.
    • 11' Gignac puts the ball in the net but it won't count! The France striker is flagged offside as he races onto a long ball... it's a good decision by the linesman!
    • 9' Anelka hits a speculative long shot but St Ledger clears with his left foot. Both sides with plenty of players behind the ball.
    • 8' Ireland break down the left with Kilbane and Duff, but play is slowed down and the eventual through ball to Doyle is too strong.
    • 6' It's very tight in the early minutes, which is how the Irish would want it.
    • 5' France win the game's first corner and Henry delivers... headed up in the air and Given catches it.
    • 3' Anelka looks to play the ball wide, but the ball is cut out - a huge roar goes up every time the home side win the ball.
    • 2' Kevin Doyle appears to be barged off the ball by Patrice Evra, but the referee says no foul. France pass it around at the back.
    • 1' GAME ON! Referee Felix Brych gets the game under way, and Ireland kick off playing from right to left as we see it in their familiar green and white. France are in all-blue.
    • - The Irish anthem meets with rapturous acclaim, and we are two minutes from kick-off!
    • - You have to saw 'La Marseillaise' is a great anthem. Well, unless you're one of the many French players refusing to sing it.
    • - Almost the entire crowd hold up green cards as the teams come out - a few tricolores also wave - while the familiar 'Ole Ole' chant rings out.
    • - France have five players on a yellow card - the entire back four of Sagna, Abidal, Gallas and Evra, plus Yoann Gourcuff - while Jeremy Toulalan and Abou Diaby are missing with injuries.
    • - I reckon a goalless draw might actually suit both teams fairly well, but if you have a prediction feel free to have your say on the message board at the bottom of the page. And throughout the game you'll be able to rate the players from both sides out of 10. It's a veritable orgy of audience participation.
    • - Just a reminder of play-off protocol, if you needed one. This game will be played over two legs (in Dublin tonight, then at the Stade de France on Wednesday). It's like a Champions League tie, so away goals count, and there will be extra time and pens only if absolutely necessary.
    • - So, the final Irish place has gone the way of Liam Lawrence, with Aiden McGeady on the bench. One mild surprise in the French team - Alou Diarra gets the nod in an all-Diarra central midfield ahead of Jeremy Toulalan.
    • - FRANCE TEAM: Hugo Lloris, Bacary Sagna, William Gallas, Eric Abidal, Patrice Evra, Alou Diarra, Lassana Diarra, Yoann Gourcuff, Nicolas Anelka, Thierry Henry, Andre-Pierre Gignac.
    • - REPUBLIC OF IRELAND TEAM: Shay Given, John O'Shea, Sean St Ledger, Richard Dunne, Kevin Kilbane, Liam Lawrence, Keith Andrews, Glenn Whelan, Damien Duff, Kevin Doyle, Robbie Keane.
  • Summary

    • 87' SO CLOSE IRELAND!! Abidal gives the ball away to Best who finds Keane and he helps the ball on to WHELAN!!!! Lloris comes out and makes a vital save!!
