    • 83' Nejc Pecnik is on for Birsa.
    • 82' Adlene Guedioura is on for Foued Kadir.
    • 81' A deep corner is met by Bougherra's head but bounces back off him and it is only a goal kick.
    • 80' Rafik Saifi replaces Matmour.
    • 79' GOAL SLOVENIA! It is another goalkeeping howler. Koren is given too much space on the edge of the penalty area but his shot shouldn't pose too many problems for Chaouchi. However the ball bounces in front of the Entente Setif keeper and nestles in the corner.
    • 77' Handanovic and Suler both blaming each other for that mix-up.
    • 76' Almost a calamity. A routine back pass to Handanovic but his short pass to Suler is stolen by Ziami but the keeper recovers to slide at his feet.
    • 75' A surging run from Belhadj but the ball runs out of play.
    • 74' So a chance for Slovenia to expose the 10-men. They have been uber-cautious so far.

    • 68' Radosavljevic is on the ground, clutching his head for a second time after a flailing arm from Matmour in an aerial challenge.
    • 67' Belhadj cuts in on his right foot but his shot is blocked by Suler.
    • 66' Slovenia are still waiting for their first World Cup point, just like Greece, New Zealand and debutants Slovakia.
    • 65' German journalist Raphael Honigstein on Twitter: "FIFA says they might ban vuvus if thrown onto pitch. What are the chances of this "accidentally" happening quite soon?" The Algerian fans making full use of their plastic trumpets.
    • 64' A vital saving tackle from Rangers defender Majid Bougherra as he slides in to prevent Novakovic from getting his shot away.
    • 63' Koren shoots from distance but can't keep his shot down.
    • 62' Matmour goes down in the penalty area but not a hint of a foul.
    • 61' A decent chance in the grand scheme of things as Kirm finds himself in space on the left-hand side of the penalty box but he curls his shot straight at Chaouchi - almost a carbon copy of Shaun Wright-Phillips' chance last night.
    • 60' Morty: "Slovenians look tense....already yelling at each other. So much for team chemistry."
    • 59' Ghezzal is booked within moments of coming on for tugging the shirt of Marko Suler.
    • 58' Djebbour has been a willing chaser in an isolated role up front and is replaced by Abdelkader Ghezzal.
    • 57' Ziani wins the dual with Brecko in the penalty area and then earns a free-kick. A nice trick from the Cologne full-back but unable to get past the Algerian.
    • 56' Hassan Yebda, who played for Portsmouth last season, with the long-range shot but that is easy for Handanovic.
    • 55' Halliche has been linked with several top French clubs after strong performances in the Nations Cup. He left Algeria for Madeira in 2007 and has been a consistent performer in the Portuguese league in recent years.
    • 54' Belhadj swings in an excellent free-kick from the left and Halliche, who is thundering in like a freight train, is inches away from making the decisive contact. Handanovic keeps his wits and catches.
    • 53' Ljubijankic is playing in a more advanced role than Dedic to give Novakovic better support up top.
    • 52' Dedic is replaced by Zlatan Ljubijankic.
    • 51' The last African coach to win a World Cup match was Jomo Sono in 2002, ominously beating Slovenia in that 1-0 match.
    • 50' Speculative effort by Ziani from 30 yards but it is nowhere near the goal.
    • 49' A good ball from the right into Djebbour but rather than stooping to head from 10 yards he attempts to chest the ball down and it runs out of play.
    • 48' Quick passing from Slovenia but Novakovic strays offside.
    • 47' Samir Nasri and Karim Benzema both have Algerian fathers but opted to play for France - how the North Africans could have done with those players in the first-half.
    • 46' And we are underway in the second-half with no changes to either side.

    • 45+1' Half-time and it has to be said not a thriller.
    • 45' optajean: "Slovenia midfielder Birsa scored the goal from the longest range in the French league this season (48 meters)."
    • 44' Birsa has another shot from long range but this skids well wide of the far post.
    • 43' Algeria are in 30th position on the most recent FIFA world ranking. Slovenia 25th.
    • 42' The best we've seen from Slovenia and Valter Birsa's curling effort from 25 yards forces Chaouchi to tip over. A decent strike but it was down the middle of the goal.
    • 41' Fittingly the delivery is hit way too hard and the ball harmlesly runs out of play.
    • 40' Slovenia win their first corner of the match.
    • 39' A great touch by Karim Matmour to bring down a raking cross from the left first time, he cuts inside and gets a decent shot off from 25 yards but it fails to test Handanovic.
    • 38' Algeria have never won a World Cup match by more than one goal. One goal might be all that is needed today.
    • 37' Two corners in quick succession for Algeria and from the latter comes the best chance of the match. Handanovic comes out and then hesitates and Rafik Halliche gets ahead of Cesar at the back post but his header is inches wide of the post.
    • 36' A deep free-kick into the penalty area comes through a crowd of players and hits Cesar on the thigh; but the centre-half recovers quickly and hacks away for a corner.
    • 35' Radosavljevic boked for blocking off Belhadj - the Portsmouth player lashes out as he hits the floor and needs to be careful.
    • 34' Dedic finds himself in acres of space but neither gets his shot off nor finds the open Novakovic.
    • 33' Aleksandar Radosavljevic has the ball smashed in his face from close range and needs some treatment.
    • 32' The stadium is named after Peter Mokaba who was a member of the South African parliament, deputy minister in the government of Nelson Mandela and president of the South African governming party's youth wing, the ANC Youth League.
    • 31' This game is being played under the warmest conditions so far but not really an excuse for the paucity of quality.
    • 30' Again too long from Kadir. Algeria doing slightly better but offering nothing in the final third.
    • 29' Cesar cuts out Karim Ziani's cross from the left.
    • 28' Not a bad break from Algeria but Fouad Kadir's cross from the right is far too deep.
    • 27' Bostjan Cesar with a good headed clearance deep in his own penalty area under pressure from Djebbour.
    • 26' A Mexican wave has broken out - a reflection of the lack of action out on the pitch.
    • 25' Dragan: "Handanovic has just shown to english how to catch an easy ball." Touché
    • 24' Referee Batres is making his World Cup debut in this match. The Guatemalan replaced the injured Pablo Pozo from Chile who was originally scheduled for this encounter.
    • 23' Another long ball from Algeria but Miso Brecko is alert on the cover to head back to Handanovic.
    • 22' Another free-kick for Slovenia, this time on the other flank, but the big centre-back Bostjan Cesar is penalised for a foul on the keeper.
    • 21' Valter Birsa swings in a free-kick from the right and Chaouchi punches clear under no real pressure.
    • 20' Neither side has had a shot on goal from open play in the opening 20 minutes.
    • 19' AEK Athens striker has returned to the squad after missing the Nations Cup. He is cutting an isolated figure in attack so far.
    • 18' A long punt down field and Djebbour almost gets his head to it - that would have been a real route one goal.
    • 17' Kirm and Novakovic with a 1-2 but Chaouchi claims the cross from the right comfortably.
    • 16' Koren is currently without a club after being released by West Bromwich Albion.
    • 15' Robert Koren sees a shot charged down on the edge of the penalty area.
    • 14' Belhadj looks for Rafik Djebbour with a long ball but it runs through to Udinese keeper Handanovic.

    • 11' Milivoje Novakovic is screaming at Dedic as he fails to execute a simple pass that would have given the Slovenia striker a clean sight of goal.

    • 8' Andraz Kirm gets to the by-line and his cross seems to flick off Antar Yahia but no corner.
    • 7' Good long ball through to Zlatko Dedic but the big striker can't bring the pass down cleanly and it runs through to Chaouchi.
    • 6' Slovenia have met African opposition five times, recording two victories, one draw and two defeats. One of these matches was at the 2002 World Cup where Slovenia lost 1-0 to South Africa in the group phase.

    • 4' Good save by Samir Handanovic to tip Nadir Belhadj's curling free-kick over the crossbar.
    • 3' Bojan Jokic brings down Karim Matmour to give Algeria a free-kick in a dangerous position.
    • 2' Confidence booster for Algeria keeper Faouzi Chaouchi as he makes a good early claim to pluck a free-kick out of the air.
    • 1' And we are underway! Plenty of empty seats but a healthy Algerian contingent are making themselves heard.
    • 12:25 The teams come out for the first international encounter between Algeria and Slovenia.
    • 12:20 Today's referee is Carlos Alberto Batres from Guatemala.
    • 12:15 Slovenia hope to clinch their first victory in a major competition after failing to win a match in Euro 2000 and the 2002 World Cup finals.
    • 12:10 Today marks Algeria's first appearance in the World Cup finals in 24 years. They are the only African team in the competition to have an African coach but have been dogged by injury.
    • 12:05 Slovenian defender Bostjan Cesar said the field was very even. "Sometimes it might be a bit unusual for the Slovenians -- but the ball runs smoothly," he told reporters.
    • 12:00 "It's brand new turf for us," said Algerian defender Majid Bougherra. "It'll be a pretty fast game," he said when asked about the surface.
    • 11:55 This match between Algeria and Slovenia will be the first at any World Cup to be played on a surface which is not 100 percent grass. FIFA decided to test a grass mixed with synthetic turf in the Polokwane and Nelspruit stadiums in South Africa and the teams were relieved to have had the chance to practise on the pitch a day before the match.
    • 11:50 Slovenia coach Matjaz Kek chose Zlatko Dedic up front alongside Milivoje Novakovic. Dedic scored the goal that secured their World Cup berth in a 1-0 win over Russia last year but has faced competition from Zlatan Ljubijankic for a starting place.
    • 11:45 The Algerian side was otherwise as expected, with defender Antar Yahia taking the captain's armband in place of midfielder Yazid Mansouri, who was dropped on the eve of the Group C clash.
    • 11:40 Algeria coach Rabah Saadane named midfielder Fouad Kadir in his starting line-up, leaving out the more attack-minded Abdelkader Ghezzal.
