    • 90'+2 There it is! All over and Germany win 4-0 after a fantastic performance! Australia are left reeling, and contemplating the rest of their tournament without their best player Tim Cahill.
    • 90'+1 elaid says: "We've been outplayed and outclassed, now we must rethink our strategy, tactics, and bring in those overlooked players who deserved to be on the pitch today."
    • 90' Cacau is booked for diving... this ref is consistent if nothing else.
    • 88' Australia are still fighting at the death... they win a couple of corners but it's just not happening.
    • 87' Match image Schwarzer is beaten again
    • 86' banksjonny13 says: "BUT BUT BUT BUT - You can start too well. The only way is down for Germany. Traditionally, the teams who win world cups start like England - poor. So never fear England, it's in the bag."
    • 85' The game has slowed to walking pace now...
    • 84' Marin looks for Gomez at the near post... behind for a goal kick!
    • 83' Here comes Australia.... Rukavytsya volleys goalwards from Chipperfield's cross! Saved by Neuer...
    • 81' Time for Podolski to exit... on comes Marin.
    • 79' Wilkshire lets fly! But his effort is poor and it rolls wide of the post.
    • 78' Is this the best performance from a team at the World Cup? In a word, yes.
    • 77' Aussie fans look glum in the stands... that hangover's going to be extra specially bad in the morning...
    • 76' Indeed, Germany seem to win everything - even last month's Eurovision Song Contest. Their last ESC win was also in a World Cup year (1982) and they went on to reach the final.
    • 75' Germany have not lost a World Cup group phase match for exactly 24 years, since a 2-0 defeat against Mexico on 13 June 1986.
    • 74' It's just a question of how many Germany can get now.
    • 73' Ozil is brought off and replaced by Gomez while Emerton also departs, and is replaced by Jedinak.
    • 71' One minute 52 seconds - that's how long Cacau was on the pitch for before he scored.
    • 70' GOAL! CACAU! AND IT'S FOUR! Ozil is played in on the left... he squares for the substitute who sidefoots home! Easy!
    • 69' Germany make a change before the restart, Cacau replacing Klose, who will not be getting any Klose to Ronaldo's record tonight.
    • 68' GOAL! IT'S THREE FOR GERMANY! MUELLER GETS IT! He leaves Chipperfield on the deck with a lovely turn before firing in off the post! It's getting embarassing for Australia...
    • 66' Klose and Podolski play a bit of wall tennis before Klose's final effort goes wide of the mark! Again, great stuff from the Germans!
    • 65' With Cahill gone, Australia's chances of getting out of Group D are seriously diminished.
    • 64' Australia make a second change as Garcia is replaced by Twente's Rukavytsya.
    • 63' Match image Schwarzer makes a save
    • 62' Since USA 1994, Germany have lost none of their 12 group stage matches, winning nine. In this period they have won all four of their opening matches.
    • 61' Podolski strikes another one on target! Schwarzer again called into action!
    • 60' Oooh! Should be a third for Germany! First Klose sees his effort blocked by Schwarzer before Khedira is hauled to the ground before he can shoot! No penalty says the ref!
    • 59' Ozilcuts inside and lets fly again! Schwarzer to Australia's rescue with a decent parry!
    • 58' Here's another card... this time it's yellow for a lateish challenge by Valeri.
    • 57' Well, any hope that Australia had of making an unlikely comeback have gone now.
    • 56' RED CARD FOR CAHILL! Cahill is sent off for a challenge on Schweinsteiger! It's a booking, but surely not a red! That's harsh, very harsh... and Australia are down to 10 men.
    • 53' Here come Germany again... oooh! Lahm plays a one-two with Mueller before cutting back to the Bayern man! But he scoops his shot over the bar! Great, fluid passing move though!
    • 52' alioupsil says: "Germany has a much better squad than in euro 2008 or world cup 2006, great individual skills by Marco Marin & Mesut Ozil, great pace & dribbling skills, and strong defensive midfielder and the perfect substitute for injured Mikel Balack (Sami Khedira), with Thomas Muller the great youth talent as in attacking midfielder, behind former stuttgart attacking duo Cacau & Gomez ..With these great players, germany would go all the way to the finals ! Germany to add a 4th star."
    • 51' Holman! The substitute turns inside Friedrich and fires just wide of the mark!
    • 50' Match image Germany celebrate their second
    • 49' Australia have started brightly enough this second half... Cahill fires a header wide of the mark, but he's penalised for climbing all over Friedrich.
    • 48' Huge shout for handball as Garcia's header strikes Mertesacker on the arm! But the ref doesn't spot it and we can only assume neither did the assisant!
    • 47' Australia are clearly having to chase this game...
    • 46' Neill wastes no time in picking up a booking, his knee catching Klose in the back.
    • 46' One change to tell you about... Grella has been sacrificed for Holman.
    • 46' Back underway in Durban!

    • 45'+1 There goes the whistle and Germany head in at the break 2-0 up - a lead which they fully deserve.
    • 45' Just one minute of added time to be played.
    • 44' natty5909 says: "Australia have no chance of winning against Germany, we'll have to see what happens in the second half.
    • 43' Culina does well to turn Lahm and get in a cross from the by-line, but Neuer rises to claim it without any fuss.
    • 42' Neill is down after a challenge by Klose... he doesn't get it though and perhaps the Aussie skipper needs to calm down a little.
    • 41' Podolski now sends Ozil through... he taps it past the onrushing Schwarzer, but his touch is too heavy and the ball runs out of play! Germany are cutting through the Australia defence like a hot knife through butter.
    • 40' Ozil again unlocks the Australian defence with a lovely clip forward to Lahm... he fires a cross into the middle where Khedira heads over the bar! Great stuff from the Germans!
    • 39' It goes short, but it doesn't work out for the Germans and Garcia clears.
    • 38' Mueller skips past Chipperfield and wins a corner as his cross is put behind!
    • 37' Here come Germany again as Ozil look to run onto a through pass... this time Neill matches the Werder Bremen man and Australia come away with the ball.
    • 36' Grella is back on his feet after taking a blow to the ribs...
    • 35' Chipperfield is found in space at the back post... he does well to play the ball back across the face of goal towards Cahill, but a German boot gets there first and the ball is cleared to safety.
    • 34' Germany have never waited more than 20 years for a World Cup title. Their last World Cup win was in 1990.
    • 33' Australia have switched to a 4-3-3 now with Emerton, Cahill and Garcia up front. They've got nothing to lose now...
    • 32' This is just too easy for Germany at the moment... Australia, after a promising start, are all over the place at the back.
    • 31' Oooh! Klose links up brilliantly with Ozil... he's onside... he tries to dink it over Schwarzer, but he doesn't get enough on it and the ball is cleared behind!
    • 30' Schweinsteiger clips the ball over to Ozil, but the talented youngster can't keep it in play.
    • 29' Match image Germany players celebrate the opener
    • 28' Klose has now overtaken Helmut Rahn (10 goals) and drawn level with Juergen Klinsmann (11)... just Gerd Müller (14), who holds the record for a European player, remains to be caught.
    • 27' Klose has now scored 11 World Cup goals and is threatening Ronaldo's record of 15 goals....
    • 26' GOAL! KLOSE MAKES IT TWO! Lahm sends over a great ball from the right flank.... Schwarzer comes way off his line to punch but he just doesn't get there and Klose heads into an empty net!
    • 25' InfostradaLive: Lukas Podolski has now scored 39 goals for Germany, as many as he has scored in the top flight of the Bundesliga in his career.
    • 24' Moore is booked for asking where the flag was as the ball came over in rather unpleasant fashion...
    • 24' What a miss by Klose! Ozil again is at the centre of things... he feeds Podolski whose cross finds Klose all alone... all he has to do is sidefoot home! But he slices it wide of the mark!
    • 23' Great challenge by Chipperfield on Klose.
    • 22' Ooh! Mueller sends over a wicked low cross that Podolski is inches away from diverting into the back of the net!
    • 21' Ooh! Emerton feeds Garcia, who cracks over the bar! There are definitely openings for the Aussies...
    • 20' Match image Garcia on the swivel
    • 19' Emerton gets over a cross from the by-line to the back stick where Culina rises to head over the bar!
    • 18' Podolski slips the ball through for Ozil... he's through here! No, he's not - the flag is up again! It's a tight one...
    • 17' Here come Germany again... the ball finds its way across to Podolski, who fires in a centre... but Schwarzer is there to claim!
    • 16' Good pressing from a posse of three Aussies forces Germany to go back to Neuer.
    • 15' Lahm plays the ball forward and for an instant it looks like Klose is through... but the flag goes up and the Bayern striker is offside.
    • 14' Germany's squad is their youngest at a World Cup since 1934 with an average age on opening day of 25 years and 128 days old. Their squad is also the second youngest of all participating countries in South Africa, beaten only by Ghana (24y-300d).
    • 13' Match image Cahill should score from a corner
    • 12' Ozil wants a free-kick here as Grella puts him under pressure... that's never a foul! He never touched him! And the ref from Mexico agrees! He books Ozil for simulation.
    • 11' Neuer rises to punch clear a corner before Moore can get there...
    • 10' And what a game so far! Open and entertaining!
    • 9' Hate to say it, but that was typically German... they'd been under the cosh until that point... but what a brilliant strike!
    • 8' GOAL! PODOLSKI PUTS GERMANY INTO THE LEAD! It's an absolute thunderbolt from the Cologne man! Ozil is the architect of the move, playing it to Mueller who pulls it back from the by-line and Podolski cracks it first time into the back of the net. Schwarzer gets a hand on it, but there's too much power on it!
    • 7' Klose's through here after Ozil's pass finds him! But he shoots straight at Schwarzer!
    • 6' It's all Australia at the moment... Wilkshire finds Garcia, but he's offside.
    • 5' What a start that would have been... the Germans' zonal marking system did not work at all then!
    • 4' Oooh! What a chance for Australia! Wilkshire's corner finds Cahill but he makes a mess of his header and it glances to Neill at the back stick... his swing at the ball results in it falling for Garcia on the swivel but his effort is blocked!
    • 3' Emerton marauds forward down the Aussie right... and he wins a corner off Khedira!
    • 2' It's a big night for Mark Schwarzer tonight...his parents emigrated from Germany in 1968.
    • 1' Australia in the front foot straight away but Cahill's cross is deflected kindly into Neuer's arms.
    • 1' Here we go! Underway in Durban!
    • 19:27 Here come the teams, to the now customary vuvuzela din! Germany in their traditional white shirts and black shorts. Australia are in blue tonight.
    • 19:25 Earlier in Group D, Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan netted a late penalty to down Serbia 1-0. Match report
    • 19:20 Australia have played all seven former World Cup champions. They have beaten five and only Germany and Italy have won all their matches against the Socceroos.
    • 19:15 Germany are making their 17th World Cup appearance, a total beaten only by Brazil (19). Have reached seven World Cup finals, more than any other country, winning three times (1954, 1974, 1990).
    • 19:10 Australia's opening game is be their 4th in Durban. They lost to South Africa 3-2 almost exactly 60 years ago in 1950, they defeated Ghana (their Group D opponent) 2-0 in 1996 and they drew with South Africa 1-1 in 2005.
    • 19:05 Germany and Australia have only previously met in Germany with the Germans scoring at least three goals on each occasion.
    • 19:00 And Australia coach Pim Verbeek leaves Harry Kewell on the bench and gives Richard Garcia, who usually plays as an attacking midfielder, his eighth cap as the lone striker ahead of Josh Kennedy. Garcia has never scored for Australia.
    • 18:55 So, Germany coach Joachim Loew sticks with out-of-form striker Miroslav Klose, who only netted three times for Bayern Munich last season. He also goes for youth over experience on the right wing, giving 20-year-old Thomas Mueller his third cap ahead of 26-year-old Piotr Trochowski.

  11. Germany has a good team . They are better than Australia but that does NOT necessarily mean that Germany is as good as the best sides in the WC: Spain,Holland,Brazil and Argentina . Let's wait and see how they fare against one of these teams in the next round !!

If there was such sport as Sheep$%^&**$£ World championship you Aussies would have had a chance. and dont talk about Cahill sending off it would have made no difference at all, He wasnt doing much anyway. I agree with one of the users who was suggesting a bunch of Kangroos would have played better caompare to Australia last night. Any hope for qualifying for the next round....dream on.. 15. We Aussies are the best in every sport, we love to win and hate to lose because it makes us sore
When we win, its because we are the best
When we lose its because the referee was blind, we were robbed, the ball was too fast, the grass was too long, the air was too thin, the sun was too bright
We make the most noise everywhere we go, we love to irritate the hell out of everyone else
We have small d1cks but we make up for it by bragging louder than everyone else
We have a chip on our shoulders, but we wear it like a badge of honour
We are descended from convicts, and bullying people is in our blood, but whats wrong with that
People hate us everywhere we go, but Aussies rule so screw everyone else
