    • 90+3 SPAIN SUB: Marchena on for Alonso....
    • 90+2 Germany putting everything up front as Mertesacker becomes a centre-forward but Spain are resisting....
    • 90+1 Three minutes added time....
    • 90' Taken short again but Lahm brings it clear. Schweinsteiger has it but dilly-dallies and Silva forces an error for another corner.
    • 89' The corner is taken short and all the way back to halfway. Keep ball is what they do and what they will do. Silva and Iniesta combine, trying to walk it through and winning a corner as they eat the seconds way.
    • 88' Spain on the break again as Torres tries to go it alone, ignoring Silva but winning a corner off Friedrich.
    • 87' Jansen lollops down the left, inside to Poldi and now Ozil. Wide to Lahm, great ball but Klose cannot get his head on it. Spain break but a dreadful pass from Torres with Silva inside, Jansen puts out for a throw.
    • 86' Ozil on the right but he gives it away and Xavi puts it long but too long for Torres. Neuer hurriedly hoofs clear.
    • 85' SPAIN SUB: Pedro comes off for David Silva.
    • 84' Alonso with a ball-winning tackle on Ozil but he gets a bit of the man and it's a free-kick. Put in but half-cleared. Schweinsteiger gets it again but blocked, Schweinsteiger goes down on the edge of the box but no free-kick! Puyol tripped him!
    • 84' Germany building another attack. Jansen on the left, back to Schweinsteiger but a poor ball that leaves him with Xavi right in his face. Busquets hoofs it in agricultural fashion.
    • 83' Germany counter after that but the ball skips away from Klose. Gomez wins a throw on the left.
    • 82' And Spain break, Pedro is in, surely 2-0 and Torres to his left with only Friedrich back but Pedro bottles it and falls over the ball!
    • 82' Jansen puts in a super cross but Gomez cannot quite wrap his foot around a bicycle kick.
    • - That seems an odd one for Spain - but Torres holds the ball up better than Villa.
    • 81' SPAIN SUB: Torres is on for David Villa. Heads are shaking among Spain fans.
    • 81' Jansen slides past Ramos and crosses low but hammered away for a throw. GERMANY SUB: Khedira off, Gomez on.
    • 80' Looks like Mario Gomez, whose dad is Spanish, will come on for Germany. Set up for a right old fairytale.
    • 79' Pedro gives it away and Lahm gets it wide right. Good cross, half cleared, now Ozil with neat still but Spain have everyone back. Spain counter and Villa is in, one-on-one with Friedrich but the defender does well.
    • 78' Mertesacker heads clear and Kroos has it again, only for Pique to head clear too. Germany having to chase the game. Can they adapt their play?
    • 77' Spain counter and Villa could be in but Germany have men back. Neuer miskicks a clearance but Khedira gets it and Jansen on the left wins a corner. Kroos to take.
    • 76' Alonso with a strong and perfect tackle on Khedira but the ref blows for a foul. Free-kick and Kroos will take AND HE CHIPS IT FAR POST TO KLOSE but Casillas reads it and claims inches ahead of Klose.
    • 75' This is the biggest test the junge mannschaft have had. What will Loew do? He only has one sub left. Kiessling? Gomez? Cacau?
    • 74' Well then. After all their pass and move and searching for the perfect goal, Spain score with a header from a set piece. Germany attack immediately but Klose is offside.
    • 73' Xavi puts the corner in AND PUYOL WITH THE TOWERING HEADER AND IN! GOAL SPAIN! And from a corner of all things! Top right!
    • 73' Iniesta picks up a crossfield pass on the left and he somehow gets past Lahm, more luck than judgement, so Schweinsteiger flies in to hammer away. Corner Spain.
    • 72' Kroos gives it away to Iniesta but his touch lets him down and Schweinsteiger immediately hits it long but Casillas gets there before Klose. Iniesta wins a free-kick off Lahm, who surely got the ball. Soft.
    • 71' Ozil's corner is a bit deep though, Villa in the end puts it out for a throw. This is much better from Germany, as this game ebbs and flows.
    • 70' Germany have a free-kick on the left as Ramos went in late on Jansen. Kroos puts it in but cleared. He gets it back on the left though and lofts in a lovely ball that Mertesacker attacks but headed out for a corner by Pique.
    • 69' Germany with some ball now as they knock it about in midfield slower than they are accustomed to. This is brilliant though as Podolski is put through on the left and he digs out a beauty FOR KROOS AT THE FAR POST but his scuffed finish is batted away by Casillas!
    • 68' Klose with a clumsy one on Iniesta. He got booked twice for that against Serbia.
    • 67' Spain putting heavy pressure on as Villa runs at Jansen before driving low but easy for Neuer.
    • 66' Xavi wide to Capdevila but Mertesacker lifts his cross clear.
    • 65' Spain could have men over again but Iniesta's ball is overhit and Ramos and co cannot reach it.
    • 64' Spain have a free-kick centre left, 35 yards out but Alonso's ball is met by big Per Mertesacker.
    • 63' Alonso dances in the Germany half. Now Xavi, to Capdevila, to Iniesta, free-flowing now as ALONSO PUTS IT IN FOR RAMOS WHO MUST SCORE but just beyond him with Podolski of all people sliding in to put him off! Wow, Podolski did his job and then some, the winger tracking the full-back all the way when no-one saw him.
    • 62' GERMANY SUB: And it is another man from the young team of Jogi Loew - Toni Kroos, 20, is on for Trochowski.
    • 62' Great play by Xavi to skin Schweinsteiger but Friedrich tackles. Now Ramos bundles in but Jansen does well.
    • 61' The ball is thrown short, Jansen crosses and it comes off Ramos AND PODOLSKI WITH THE OVERHEAD but he smashes it over! Difficult technique that.
    • 60' Germany break and Podolski has it on the left, the ball is slid in near post but Pique gets there first to hoof out for a throw!
    • 59' Spain have woken up and Germany look rattled as Ramos almost gets in on the right again.
    • 58' Alonso tries to dictate play from less deep than usual as Spain come forward. Lovely play as it is teed up for PEDRO but a great save by Neuer! Xavi on the rebound and he skins his man with a super drag-back and feeds Iniesta who is in AND HE DRILLS IT ACROSS GOAL AND SURELY VILLA BUT INCHES AWAY FROM HIM!
    • 57' Good tackle from Schweinsteiger on Ramos. Germany with some bite about them.
    • 56' Lovely from Iniesta to turn inside, he finds Xavi who touches it to VILLA but he drives it wide. He scuffed that badly.
    • 55' Khedira goes down again under a Busquets tackle but no foul. Ramos clobbered Jansen in the same move too.
    • 54' Villa is robbed and Germany break, Friedrich has gone down the other end and as Spain break themselves Iniesta is brought down by Schweinsteiger.
    • 53' GERMANY SUB: Well. Neither Podolski nor Khedira have been taken off, it is Boateng. He looks confused. So Jansen will play as an attacking left-back. Must be an attacking change, to try and keep Ramos downfield.
    • 52' Spain have regained some confidence as they knock it about nicely. Boateng intercepts Alonso's ball wide.
    • 51' Germany still haven't made that change. I wonder if Podolski's had enough, he was struggling in the first half after a couple of knocks.
    • 50' JUST WIDE FROM ALONSO! He rasped a left-foot drive past the flailing Neuer but a yard wide! Good build-up play, Xavi with a lovely lay-off.
    • 49' Khedira is back on his feet. Trochowski almost gets on to Klose's ball. Jansen is warming up. He's a really tall left-back or left-winger.
    • 48' Spain clear as Khedira goes down, Pedro on the right with a mazy dribble, in and out of three players, and he feeds ALONSO but his shot is well wide.
    • 47' Long ball to Klose almost puts him in but he has to look backwards to Ozil. Now wide to Trochowski but Spain are back in numbers and manage to clear.
    • 46' Ramos to Pedro and he crosses from the right but over-hit and Villa looks on as it sails out.
    • 46' The second half is underway and Spain attack immediately but to no avail.
    • - No changes at half-time - Torres sits on glumly.
    • - A tweet from WorldSoccerEd: "Amazingly, there are still empty seats - for a WldCup semi-final. If FIFA won't let local kids in, at least let the volunteers fill the gaps"
    • - Benefit of the replay - a penalty would have been harsh as there was a slight collision, accidental most likely, between the legs of Ramos and Ozil; Ozil went down hard because his later momentum pushed his ankles together. I would say any contact was on the line anyway, so at worst a free-kick.
    • 45+1 Half-time and goalless in a very tight game between to excellent sides of contrasting styles.
    • 45+1 Klose on the ball, he plays it into Ozil who is surrounded and he goes down but no penalty! Puyol got the ball, says the ref! Down the other end Pedro shoots from range but straight at Neuer.
    • 45' Mertesacker gives it away, Alonso now, wide to Pedro, he turns Boateng but the cross is blocked. He should have crossed earlier, not tried to beat Boateng. Corner.
    • 44' Germany break and Klose bustles forward, drawing a foul from Puyol.
    • 43' Ramos on the wing knocks a long ball down to Xavi. Now Pedro finds Alonso who spreads it right to Ramos again, he puts in a super cross but Mertesacker is probably the only man in this stadium tall enough to reach it with a glancing header away from Villa.
    • 42' Xavi to take this, right side, 35 yards out. He takes it short but they overcook the routine and Germany clear.
    • 41' Pedro steps over the ball for Capdevila to cross but cleared. Pedro gets it again and puts the cross in himself but Boateng clears. Now Iniesta has it on the right and Boateng takes him out. Foul, no card, just a word.
    • 40' Germany with their own spell of possession and Boateng gets forward but his flashy drag-back does not come off with Ramos wise to it and Spain clear.
    • 39' Khedira gets forward and finds Poldi. Now Schweinsteiger to Trochowski, he finds Lahm and Ozil could be in but he is closed down and cannot turn into space. Should have had a pop first time.
    • 38' Aaaaah, Alonso again with a stray pass but I will blame Capdevila for checking his run. He thought he was offside, but was not.
    • 37' Ooooh. Podolski is released inside Ramos but the flag is up. Looked tight again, fractionally off this time, good call.
    • 36' Capdevila to Iniesta, he races forward and tries to slide it in for Villa but six Germans are in there and cleared. Iniesta again on the ball, trying to find Pedro, but the perfect pass fails to find its destination and Neuer clears. Pedro again has it but tries to go it alone, much to Villa's chagrin.
    • 35' Trochowski with another corner that Casillas flaps at but he punches clear. Lahm now pumps it into the box and Casillas punches unconvincingly again.
    • 34' Neat play by Kedhira and Ozil releases the latter on the left, with Puyol sliding in to block for a corner.
    • 33' Spain get out of their half as Busquets tries to find Villa. He fails. The ball loops off Khedira's head into Neuer's arms.
    • 32' Ozil puts the corner in and Klose leaps and it spins off someone's torso and away to safety! Casillas again unconvincing at a corner.
    • 32' Germany break, Lahm on the right, this is when they're deadly and inside to Trochowski WHO DRILLS IT LOW AND CASILLAS TIPS IT BEHIND! That is more like it.
    • 31' Schweinsteiger slides in on Ramos, winning it but the ball spins up for Villa. Boateng puts it out for a throw. This is too close to call.
    • 30' Alonso has it 25 yards out but sends a dipping, swerving shot well wide.
    • 29' Poldi is up. Germany have the free-kick and keep it short but Friedrich gives it away and Spain could be in but Schweinsteiger does his DM role excellently to intercept. Long for Klose, out for a goal kick.
    • - Stan Collymore's twitter page is stats crazy - he does like numbers, this is well documented: "The German starting line-up today (25 yrs-299 days) is the youngest starting XI in a WC semifinal since 1962."
    • 28' Podolski is down again after a nasty little stamp on his foot by Ramos. That was not nice.
    • 27' Podolski is running about now, seems to be fine. Iniesta finds Ramos but with no support he goes backwards. Spain keep possession until Busquets gets into the box and Boateng intercepts.
    • 26' Podolski is down but Spain play on, Ramos on the right and Pedro tries a bicycle kick but he misses it. Podolski limping.
    • 25' Xavi finds Pedro who has space to run, now Villa into the area but Friedrich closes him down to block his shot on the turn. Still with Spain as Ramos seems to be fouled by Boateng but play-on.
    • 24' Another dodgy offside, this time Capdevila the victim as he hared on to a ball out wide.
    • 23' Klose gets a quick ball in from Podolski and he controls it really well, spinning away from Puyol but a touch too heavy and it spins away from him. This game is really starting to spark up now.
    • 23' The corner is put in, cleared as far as Alonso but his ball is headed away and Germany break, this is when they are unstoppable but a poor layoff from Podolski infuriates Ozil!
    • 22' Xavi and Iniesta play a super one-two to free Iniesta on the left but Khedira slides in well. Corner.
    • 21' Xabi Alonso with a poor ball, his second tonight, wide out for a throw when Spain had the momentum.
    • 20' Pique finds Villa who backheels it beautifully in to Pedro but he cannot control it on the move and Germany survive.
    • 19' Ramos gets into loads of space on the right as Xavi lofts it over to him, the Madrid full-back decides to shoot and spins it well wide.
    • 18' Klose with a super lay-off to Ozil, who drifts a lovely ball wide for Podolski but a touch too much on it and out for a throw.
    • 17' Germany now with a good spell of territory in Spain's half. A succession of long throws are pumped into the box but cleared by Spain. They cannot get it out of their own half though.
    • 16' Trochowski takes this one and again Casillas struggles but punches clear. The ball is back with Trochowski but this cross is too heavy, out for a throw.
    • 15' Taken by Ozil, who overhits it a bit and Casillas flaps AND AN OPEN GOAL but just beyond the Germans flying in far post!
    • 14' Trochowski and Lahm do very well on the right and the winger is in but the cross too deep. Puyol makes a meal of it though, heading out for a corner under no pressure.
    • 14' Spain then have had one half chance and one gilt-edged in the opening quarter; Germany have offered very little. Spain keep it well again...
    • 13' Boateng puts it out for a corner under pressure from Ramos. First of the night. Taken short and worked back to Iniesta on the right AND HE WHIPS IN A LOVELY BALL FOR PUYOL SURELY BUT HE HAMMERS IT OVER! Free header! Should have been the opener.
    • 12' The Vuvuzela has taken on a rhythmic form in the latter stages of this tournament, possibly as everyone works out how to blow it properly. Spain still knocking it about slowly, slowly, catchee monkey.
    • 11' Alonso on the ball finds Iniesta who almost wriggles through but Mertesacker is able to hack clear.
    • 11' Spain back on the ball as they use the width of the pitch, Germany have nine men behind the ball looking for the error and the quick break.
    • 10' Germany get some ball as Schweinsteiger looks long for Klose. Too long but Klose somehow gets it off Pique and he chases Casillas down, who hoofs it nervously... Alonso now gives it away and Schweinsteiger puts Ozil through but offside! No! He was level! Bad call!
    • 9' Ramos on the right finds Pedro but a poor ball is cleared by Germany. Boateng eventually lumps it out for a throw. Spain controlling the ball and tempo so far.
    • 8' Good passing from Spain but Iniesta's ball is intercepted. Busquets on it but Khedira tackles. Boateng tries to feed Ozil but sells him short. Cagey start.
    • 7' First blood to Spain then. Germany try to respond immediately as Schweinsteiger races from the middle to wide right but Spain just about get it clear.
    • 6' Pedro gets the ball again and he slides it through and Germany's defence opens up and VILLA SLIDES IN but Neuer flies out to block with his chest!
    • 6' Pedro goes on a mazy dribble but runs into Lahm, who tackles him on the inside and plays it clear. Back with Spain though.
    • 5' The Spanish close Germany down in numbers when they do get the ball. This will be a different prospect entirely for Germany, but Podolski repays them in kind by harassing Puyol and Pique into going back to Casillas.
    • 4' Lunatic on the pitch! Lunatic on the pitch! Play is stopped as a moron runs on the field of play holding some kind of banner or scarf or something. He is escorted off and will no doubt get a shoeing from the ruthless South African cops.
    • 4' Another long one from Alonso but Pedro collects with a superb first touch. Spain move forward and Pedro again gets it but he loses control of the ball and Germany clear.
    • 3' Pique to Pedro, wide to Capdevila as Spain get their first crossing opportunity but the Villarreal man overhits it out for a throw on the right.
    • 2' Alonso tries Spain's first long pass of the game, which Podolski intercepts.
    • 1' The first few seconds see Germany knock it about in their own half but Ramos wins it for Spain and they start their possession game.
    • 1' The first half is underway! Spain in red, Germany in white.
    • 19:30 Hungarian ref Kassai has marshalled three games at this World Cup, with no red card shown yet. Hopefully he can keep that record intact.
    • 19:25 The players are out on the pitch now as the European Championship finalists from 2008 do battle for a place in the biggest match of all - the World Cup final.
    • 19:20 Eurosport reader 'imna' a has a prediction: "Spain will have lots of possession tonight. But I think which team scores first will win. Mueller's absence will affect the Germans. Torres on the bench will be a good move by Del bosque. Prediction: Germany 2 Spain 2. Germany to win in penalties."
    • 19:15 Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger reckons Spain will have too much of the ball for Germany to be able to counter as well as in previous games. Check out what he says in his video blog.
    • 19:10 VILLA WATCH: David Villa has netted five goals at this summer's finals, equalling the all-time Spanish record in a single World Cup (Basora in 1950 and Butragueno in 1986). Villa is Spain's top scorer in World Cup history with eight goals. He is just one goal away (43) from equalling Raul as Spain's all-time top scorer (44).
    • 19:05 KLOSE WATCH: All 14 of Miroslav Klose’s World Cup goals have come in open play and from inside the box, and half of them have been headers. Klose needs just one more goal to equal Ronaldo’s record of 15 World Cup goals and is currently level with Gerd Mueller (14).
    • 19:00 GERMANY FACTS: Germany have scored the most goals at the 2010 World Cup (13). They have scored four goals in three games at the finals - the only nation to have bettered this in a single World Cup is Hungary, netting at least four goals in four different matches in 1954.
    • 18:55 SPAIN FACTS: Spain will be playing in their first ever World Cup semi final. Xavi has completed more passes than any other World Cup 2010 player (404).
    • 18:50 HEAD TO HEAD: These nations have met 20 times, Germany have won eight times, Spain six and there have been six draws. The last encounter between these two nations was in the Euro 2008 final that saw Spain win 1-0 thanks to a Torres strike. Germany are unbeaten against Spain at the World Cup, winning twice and drawing once.
    • 18:45 For Germany, the suspended Thomas Mueller is replaced by winger Piotr Trochowski - that means Germany's attack is entirely Polish-born, along with Lukas Podolski and Miroslav Klose.
    • 18:40 Spain coach Vicente del Bosque dropped misfiring striker Torres and included winger Pedro instead. More on that decision here.
    • 18:35 Tonight's referee is Viktor Kassai of Hungary.
    • 18:35 TEAMS - Germany: 1-Manuel Neuer; 16-Philipp Lahm, 3-Arne Friedrich, 17-Per Mertesacker, 20-Jerome Boateng, 15-Piotr Trochowski, 6-Sami Khedira, 7-Bastian Schweinsteiger, 10-Lukas Podolski, 8-Mesut Ozil, 11-Miroslav Klose /// Spain: 1-Iker Casillas; 15-Sergio Ramos, 3-Gerard Pique, 5-Carles Puyol, 11-Joan Capdevila; 14-Xabi Alonso, 8-Xavi, 6-Andres Iniesta, 16-Sergio Busquets; 18-Pedro, 7-David Villa
    • 18:30 Germany face European champions Spain at Moses Mabhida Stadium for a place in the World Cup final against the Netherlands - and Fernando Torres is on the bench.
