    • 9' Ghana win the first corner of the day! But it's easily headed clear at the near post by Emerton.

    • 14:58 Here come the teams, out into the sunshine at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium!

    • 14:45 Australia and Ghana have met on six previous occasions, all friendlies. The Socceroos have won four and the Black Stars one. One encounter resulted in a draw.
    • 14:40 Ghanaian captain and centre-back John Mensah misses the match after picking up a knock in training. Ghana start with a much changed backline after Isaac Vorsah also pulled up with an injury, with Jonathan Mensah and Lee Addy coming into the team that won their first game against Serbia.
    • 14:35 Defender David Carney replaces Scott Chipperfield, while Vince Grella is injured and top Scorer Tim Cahill misses the game through suspension after being sent off in the German game.
    • 14:30 Australia make four changes to their starting line-up, starting with Harry Kewell and Mark Bresciano in a bid for goals. Kewell has not played since early this year due to a groin strain but has been training with the Socceroos squad for the past two weeks. Bresciano also rejoins the side after sitting out the 4-0 defeat to Germany that has put the team at risk of not making it through the group stages, while Brett Holman will also play as a forward in a match that Australia must win.
    • 14:25 Today's referee is the respected Roberto Rosetti of Italy.
    • 14:20 Teams: Ghana: 22-Richard Kingson; 4-John Pantsil, 8-Jonathan Mensah, 19-Lee Addy, 2-Hans Sarpei, 6-Anthony Annan, 21-Kwadwo Asamoah, 13-Dede Ayew, 23-Kevin-Prince Boateng, 3-Asamoah Gyan, 12-Prince Tagoe /// Australia: 1-Mark Schwarzer; 2-Lucas Neill, 3-Craig Moore, 14-Brett Holman, 8-Luke Wilkshire, 23-Mark Bresciano, 5-Jason Culina, 16-Carl Valeri, 7-Brett Emerton, 10-Harry Kewell, 21-David Carney.
    • 14:15 Ghana can go clear at the top of World Cup Group D if they avoid defeat to Australia at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg.

  1. well done Ghana
and the ref got it spot on it was a red card as id Kwel had not used his hand it would have been a goal.
however Ghana should have won that match so in a sence it was a let off for Austrailia.

  2. If african players are so dumb then how come the leading foot ball countries have africans in their nationl sides:

Brazil has the best team in the world with 5 world cup titles....almost always at least half their team are of african descent.
France won the world cup with how many africans in their side compared with their historical teams?
How many dutch players are better than Ruud Guillit or Frank Rijkaard? Perhaps only Cruyff. It was with Guillit and Rijkaard and Van Basten that they woin their only title ever.
How many english players have won world player of the year for all the millions in the premiership? Rooney? Gerrard? Lampard? Terry? George weah has!
By your resoning only europeans with enought intelligence are Germany and Italy, not the others.

  3. It seems that fifa are desperate for an african team to reach the latter stages at any cost, the ref's have been shambolic the last couple of day's, shame on you fifa.

  4. Chill guys, slow down. Way too many misconceptions and peeps jumping the gun. Firstly, no possible outcome of this match was going to guarantee Ghana's qualifications, win, draw or loss. Ghana could have won today and not qualify, similarly they could have lost today and still qualify. Like we say, I no dey lie.
@Deep-2-Deep, I hate it when people make such comments regarding african players, but I have to agree with you, the tactics were shocking. You have to understand two things though. Ghanaians seem to have this natural lack of urgency in their play. They play like the match will last for 10hrs, and eventually they'll break down the opposition and score, so lets play at a pedestrian-like pace. Looking back, I can only think of Abedi Pele and Tony Yeboah who had that urgency in their play, and then the 1995 U-17 world champions, they also attacked at a rapid pace. Otherwise ghana has always had this annoying slow build up that makes you wanna throw your telly of the balcony! Of the current crop, only Andre Ayew and George Boateng show this type of urgency. And this is where the goal came from. Secondly, the coach outlines the tactics. We have a Serbian coach, we're in the same group with Serbia. Does that not indicate a conflict of interest, I question?
And finally, comment 176 @Vuvuzelas Are Pure Evil, you're watching the wrong tournament, and the wrong world cup - Champions Leagues will be back in Aug/Sept 2010.

I think you were hard done by another dubious call, i think many of the refs in this World Cup are in over their heads. Much better display than your 1st game, hold your heads high, your Socceroos played like a TEAM! Hand Claps!

It is very sad to see Ghana playing so bad against Australia
there was something wron g with that game not the same team who played against Sebia
probably South Africa needs the australian fans money so the whole thing is arranged
it is sad for the fans of the football.
