Minnows New Zealand stunned Italy as the defending champions were held to a 1-1 draw in their World Cup Group F clash in Nelspruit. More
90+4' FULL-TIME! And that is quite simply a sensational World Cup result as little New Zealand hold world champions Italy to a 1-1 draw.
90+3' Killen is replaced by Andy Barron.
90+1' More heroics from the outstanding Nelsen. A marauding run from Zambrotta who cuts inside Smith but sees his goalbound shot from close range blocked by the Blackburn Rovers defender.
88' Camoranesi's blast from distance is pushed behind by Paston, diving away to his left.
87' Nelsen has been booked. Very unclear why after he went down with cramp.
84' Superb stuff from Wood as he flicks the ball past Cannavaro and his diagonal drive is just a whisker past the far post.
82' Jeremy Christie replaces Vicelich.
64' Cannavaro heads a long throw out to Ivan Vicelich who unleashes a sweet 30-yard volley that whistles past Marchetti's post. Just New Zealand's second attempt on goal and a sweet strike.
63' West Brom youngster Chris Wood replaces Fallon.
62' Tactical change from Lippi as Marchisio is replaced by striker Giampaolo Pazzini.
61' Iaquinta finds half a yard in the penalty area after a superb pass from De Rossi but his shot on the turn fails to hit the target.
49' Di Natale gets behind the Kiwi defence and a great strike from an acute angle but pushed away by Paston.
46' A double change from Lippi at half-time with Antonio Di Natale and Mauro Camoranesi replacing Gilardino and Pepe.
45+1' HALF-TIME! It's been physical, it's been entertaining and it's level at the break.
45' A fierce long-range strike from De Rossi can't be held by Paston and Reid hacks away for a corner.
29' GOAL ITALY!! Iaquinta calmly sends Paston the wrong way and the world champions are on level terms.
28' PENALTY ITALY!! Smith is tugging the jersey of De Rossi who goes down softly and the penalty is awarded. No need to hit the floor but a clear infraction in the penalty area.
26' It opens up for Riccardo Montolivo whose drive from 25 yards hits the inside of the post and bounces to safety.
22' Smart run from Zambrotta and a sweet drive from distance which is not too far over the crossbar with Paston beaten.
16' Golden chance for Giorgio Chiellini. A corner from the right bounces off Cannavaro and into the path of his central defensive partner but his attempted dink into the corner drifts wide from eight yards.
14' Fallon booked as a flailing arm makes contact with Cannavaro.
11' Vincenzo Iaquinta fails to get decent contact on his header and Rory Fallon hacks away.
9' Paston swats away a free-kick by Claudio Marchisio from the left which eludes all the blue shirts gathered in the penalty area.
7' GOAL NZ!! The All Whites win a free-kick which Simon Elliot pumps deep into the penalty area. The ball comes off the thigh of Fabio Cannavaro with Federico Marchetti glued to his line and Smeltz pokes home from close range.
1' And we are underway!

90′ Oh my goodness i cannot believe it! I know Italy can be slow starters in the 1st round (1982) but somehow when i look at Lippis team it seems somehow disjointed! There is no strong togetherness and the finishing skills are poor. Maybe they are nervous?!
They are shooting too much from outside box all the time, no real passing going on thats amounted to real goals! i am disappointed that Lippi has not even tried Quagliarella yet, i get the feeling Quagliarella can be another Toto Schillaci ! Come on Italy, get it together...Forza Azzurri !!

juan di merdà che kazzo parli a fare? l'inghilterra che sta facendo? schifo, come ti permetti a parlare così dell'italia? 4 coppe del mondo, quando le vincerà l'inghilterra chiamami, coglione

At comment 175: It is because the game in general has become incredibly tactical. It is now a game of setting up Not to Lose, and hoping for a moment of magic, which makes players like Messi or Sneijder or anyone else who can produce that magic stand out even more. Higher stakes = More conservative game. Thanks, Money.

o yee o yee,, az a iranian new zealander i am proud of all whites,, they made me so happy and good on them,,,
its good to see nz is getting bettre on football, go nz go kiwis
GO ALL WHITES

whinging bloody poms lol both sides where cheated by refs and italy dominated the game.. get some glasses.. after the luck of a blind ref NZ score and then panic, so they camped to defend there @#$% lol funny game

Leo Bertos is fun 2 watch

i predicted this score line and my comment was hidden due to its low rating
but shame on everyone that gave me thumbs down
go NZ

WOOT NZ as i said in Comment Number three ANYTHING can happen in a World Cup and New Zealand showed it! GO NZ!!

Brilliant Play by New Zealand, so close on grabbing a win, but a draw is enough. UP THE KIWIS!

Good on you kiwi's, just one more game to go.. kia kaha!!

It's sad, sides who only come out to defend, get applauded. Not a big fan of Italy, but New Zealand's 10 men behind ball is a disgrace to football. Whatever happened to beautiful football?

I have heard everyone slag off every country no matter who they are, I know people don't like Italy and their methods but its good when they get up and say enough is enough and they reach they final. Since 1970 Italy have been in 3 finals, they were nearly out in 82' and won. They were nearly out in 94' on many occations but lost on penalties and in 2006 everything was against them and they won. Italy are the most successful underdogs because not only does everyone hate them they make their life difficult too but they believe and do well at the end.

Well done the All Whites. Keep it up. The Italians should be nominated for an osacar

Italy were very cynical in the first half, feigning injury to try and draw sympathy from the referee.
The truth of the matter is that many people don't like the idea that football is becoming increasingly global and that non-traditional sides are puting up a better showing than ever.
To those decrying the All Whites' ability or gameplay, remember: the objective is to beat your opponent, not to play a style of football that is "pretty" or that allows the opposition to look good.
Most of all, the World Cup so far has shown the huge gulf between those countries that have pride in wearing their national jersey and those who see it as just a job. The little teams may not always win, but with their courage and conviction they will never truly lose.

WELL PLAYED NEW ZEALAND
Suddenly though it is not too bad to be English again because
Italy the defending champions seem to lack any creativity
What happened to Del Piero?
I am a great admirer of the Juventus player and I do not believe he has retired (has he?)
Of the teams who have already played two games I believe only Argentina and the Netherlands have two wins
The World Cup is rubbish, however, in the past Italy have been slow starters but it is alarming that in the two games they have played up to now the other team have scored first.

very poor WC by all standards, we didnt witness any fancy football so far.

You must not say that New Zealand tied because of luck... It is not just an "embarrassment" for Italy. I mean, New Zealand coulda won the whole match... They had 2 or 3 good chances.

Nikola R, at last.... someone who has actually made a sensible comment.
I've read most of the comments and can not believe how little most of you know about football.
New Zealand should be congratulated for holding Italy to a drew. But the team of 2006 would of torn NZ apart. 4 years is a long time in football and don't be surprised if Italy 2010 get knocked out in the first round. Although since 1970, the Italians have proved to get results when it really matters and are always in the mix. I hope they get through because the world cup need teams like Italy to keep it interesting.

TO SEAN WHY THE NEED FOR THE VERBAL ABUSE???OR DOES YOUR VOCABULARY NOT ALLOW YOU TO WRITE ANYTHING CONSTRUCTIVE???.

LETS BE HONEST WITH OURSELVES ITALY FANS.THIS TEAM IS THE WORST ITALY TEAM WE HAVE HAD IN LIVING MEMORY.AS A NORM NEW ZEALAND WOULD HAVE BEEN PUT IN THEIR PLACE WITHIN 45 MINS.BUT WELL DONE NEW ZEALAND.YOU DIDNT SHOW UP JUST TO MAKE THE NUMBERS UP.AS FOR US AS AN ITALIAN THE BEST THING WE CAN DO IS DRAW THE NEXT GAME,AND COME HOME,BECAUSE ON THIS SHOWING YOU COULDNT WIN A TEACUP LET ALONE THE WORLD CUP.AND IM AFRAID IT HAS TO BE SAID THAT MARCELLO LIPPI.HAS GOT IT WRONG.TO BRING PAZZINI WITHOUT CASSANO WAS A VERY BIG MISTAKE.LOOK AT GILARDINO HES DONE NOTHING.WE ARE LIKE A LION WITH NO TEETH.I MAKE NO EXCUSES WE WERE AWFUL AND WE GOT WHAT WE DESERVED....NOTHING.
