    • 45' Half-time! And in truth a hugely disappointing 45 minutes given the pre-match expectrations.
    • 44' Ronaldo is challenged by Tiote. Match Image

    • 42' Demel gets forward and wins a corner off Fabio Coentrao.
    • 41' Dindane's cross from the right is headed away.
    • 40' Deco looks well off the pace. He didn’t even make the Chelsea bench for the Cup final.
    • 39' Deco loses out and Ivory Coast break but Kalou loses out in the penalty area.
    • 38' This time an overhit Ivorian through ball runs through to the keeper.
    • 37' Dindane, who will be playing his club football in Qatar next year, sees his cross from the right cut out.
    • 36' gunners_51: "Typical Ronaldo. A few dives and shoot from 35+ yards and hit the woodwork...and then start crying about it. "
    • 35' Carlos Queiroz is cutting an increasingly agitated figure on the sidelines. That Ronaldo moment of brilliance is their only attempt on goal.
    • 34' Another well judged dash off his line by Barry to prevent Liedson latching on to another through ball.
    • 33' Ronaldo hobbling after getting a clip from behind by Tiene.
    • 32' Deco's first real run but his attempted through ball to Danny is cut out by Barry, coming off his line and sliding at the Portuguese winger's feet.
    • 31' Lone striker Liedson has been a peripheral figure in the opening half hour and his cross is cut out.
    • 30' Kolo Toure and Yaya Toure become only the fourth pair of brothers to feature in successive World Cups together following England’s Bobby and Jackie Charlton (1966-1970), Holland’s Willy and René van de Kerkhof (1974-1978) and Holland’s Frank and Ronald de Boer (1994-1998).
    • 29' Tiene's long cross is claimed by Eduardo.
    • 28' Pedro Mendes should be booked for a nasty tackle on Eboue's ankle. The Arsenal man is not scared of amateur dramatics but that one would have hurt.
    • 28' Ivory Coast win their first corner but Emmanuel Eboue's delivery is low, skidding and cleared.
    • 27' Ronaldo's attempted cross from the left strikes his old mate Demel and the Ivorians clear.
    • 26' Tiene's free-kick floats straight into the hands of Eduardo.
    • 25' The heavily tattooed Raul Meireles is penalised for a foul on Dindane.
    • 24' Tiene's free-kick floats straight into the hands of Eduardo.
    • 23' The heavily tattooed Raul Meireles is penalised for a foul on Dindane.
    • 22' Gervinho wriggles into the penalty area but an important intervention from Paulo Ferreira after his Stamford Bridge team-mate Ricardo Carvalho was beaten.
    • 21' Unclear whether Ronaldo was booked for diving or squaring up to Demel. There was contact but the Real Madrid superstar was already on his way down.
    • 20' Ronaldo goes down cheaply under a challenge from Guy Demel. Both players are booked for the confrontation in the aftermath.
    • 19' This Ivory Coast side is full of athleticism and pace.
    • 18' Tiene gets to the by-line but the left-back has too much pace on his cross.
    • 17' Ivory Coast stayed undefeated in their qualifying campaign along with Nigeria, the only African nations to accomplish that.
    • 16' A rather industrial tackle by Tiote on Deco but no censure.
    • 15' A fierce shot from Cheik Tiote from distance but it curls over the crossbar. A sharp break from the Ivorians.
    • 14' Decent effort from Siaka Tiene but it drifts past the post. Eduardo had it covered.
    • 13' Gervinho is clumsily pushed in the back by Bruno Alves and that is a free-kick 30 yards out.
    • 12' Ronaldo failed to score in qualifying and has not scored for Portugal for 16 months.
    • 11' WHAT AN ATTEMPT! Ronaldo cuts back inside with a cheeky flick and unleashes a 35-yard rocket that hits the outside of the post. Boubacar Barry was completely beaten.
    • 10' Ivory Coast came back from two goals behind to beat Serbia and Montenegro, marking the eighth time in World Cup history that feat had been achieved and the first time by a team from Africa.
    • 9' Ivory Coast made their World Cup debut in 2006. They were eliminated in the group phase after defeats against Argentina (2-1) and Netherlands (2-1) and a victory against Serbia and Montenegro (3-2).
    • 8' Portugal win the first corner but it just flicks a Portuguese head and runs out for a throw-in.
    • 7' Ronaldo's audacious 45-yard free-kick is straight into the wall.
    • 6' Didier Zokora booked for a foul on Ronaldo - the Real Madrid man goes down theatrically but contact was minimal. The ex-Tottenham man gives the ex-Manchester United man a piece of his mind.
    • 5' Cristiano Ronaldo wins his first free-kick as he is tripped by Kalou.
    • 4' Danny tracks back to stop a run by Dindane down the flank.
    • 3' Kalou one of the four Chelsea players on show.
    • 2' Gervinho is playing in the centre of the three-pronged attack flanked by Kalou and Dindane.
    • 1' And we are underway in what could be the biggest match of the group stage.
    • 14:55 The teams are out and it is noisy in the stadium.

    • 14:45 Referee Jorge Larrionda was in charge of four matches at the 2006 WC, including Italy-USA where he handed out three red cards.

    • 14:30 Portugal has never been an international fixture before.
    • 14:25 Midfielder Pepe, who has been sidelined since late last year with a knee injury, was left out of the starting 11 for the match at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
    • 14:20 Portugal coach Carlos Queiroz opted for Danny on the wing in place of Simao Sabrosa amid concerns about the 30-year-old's pace after a gruelling 70-game season with Atletico Madrid.
    • 14:15 He is expected to play in a three-man attack alongside Aruna Dindane and Salomon Kalou. Kolo Toure captains the side.
    • 14:10 Ivory Coast brought in Gervais Kouassi up front after prolific marksman Didier Drogba was declared unfit. Drogba was not ready to play after breaking his arm on June 4 and coach Sven-Goran Eriksson will give the talented France-based Kouassi, better known as Gervinho, his 17th cap.
