Poland missed their chance to erase the rain delay farce by letting a feeble England off the hook in the 1-1 World Cup qualifying draw in Warsaw. More
90+3' There goes the final whistle. Both teams have settled for the draw. 1-1. All over. England will be the happier side to get a draw out of this than Poland. Thanks for joining us this evening.
88' A change coming for Poland as Obraniak departs to be replaced by Borysiuk.
86' Milner with a fine cross into the area from Gerrard's ball. Smashing ball there, but Tyton just does enough to fall on the cross. Welbeck was sniffing around there.
82' Change for Poland as Grosicki departs to be replaced by Milik. One goal either way will win this match. And it doesn't look like it is going to be an England goal.
72' Rooney departs the scene to be replaced by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain for the visiting side. Rooney has done little tonight.
69' GOAL! Glik rises to head home from Obraniak's corner. Hart all over the place from a corner. A deserved leveller. Can't say that goal hadn't been coming. 1-1 now.
68' But a brilliant, sweeping move by England to the other end of the park sees Rooney lift a shot miles over from Welbeck's cutback after Milner had sent the sub clear. Tyton with a vital touch on the ball to hold up Welbeck.
66' Danny Welbeck replaces Defoe for England with 24 minutes left on the clock.
64' Defoe almost on the end of the Gerrard delivery before Glik does extremely well to clear the Gerrard cross. Brilliant cross by Gerrard.
63' Glik is booked for handling Defoe's cross and England have a free-kick out wide. Chance for Gerrard to play provider again.
62' Wszołek departs the action to be replaced by Adrian Mierzejewski for Poland.
61' Poland fighting the good fight as Obraniak is penalised for offside. Smart defending by Lescott to play him offside.
60' Johnson takes a tumble under pressure from Wszołek. That looked a penalty. Wasn't clear-cut, but could have been given.
59' Piszczek with Poland's latest attempt at goal as the ball spins wide of goal. All Poland now. England have a long way to go from here on in if they don't get out.
50' Obraniak thumps the shot at goal from 25 yards, but Hart nudges the ball over the bar with a decent stop. Had to look lively there.
48' Mistake by Jagielka almost lets the home side in for the equaliser. Brilliant covering work by Johnson to deprive Wszołek of a certain goal. Major scare for Jagielka.
46' We are off and running in the second period of this one.
45' Johnson forced to look smart as he races back to make sure Lewandowski can't get a run on goal. The whistle sounds. The last action of the first half sees England lead 1-0. Good result if not a great performance. Work to be done in the second period.
44' Another delicious ball from Lewandowski to pick out the run of Glik. Just fails to get the ball under control as he fires the ball away under pressure. Wide of goal, but the warning signs are there for England.
30' GOAL! Rooney nods home his 32nd international goal from Gerrard's corner. Ball came off the unmarked Rooney's shoulder. Who cares? They all count. A 1-0 lead for England.
27' Strong, surging run by Lewandowski into the heart of the England box. Fires a shot across goal, but no takers in the middle as the ball flies a few yards wide of goal. Positive play by the big forward.
12' Obraniak darts into the England area with real purpose, but brilliant block by Hart to make sure he can't get the shot away. Poland making the better start to this match.
10' Polanski has been booked for a late nudge on Defoe's heels. That was harsh, it must be said. Will have to watch his step from here on in.
8' Grosicki with a golden chance to give Poland the lead from Jakub Wawrzyniak's cross, but he mishits the shot before England scramble it clear. Polish fans roused by that moment.
1' England get the match off and running then. In their dark blue changed strips for this one. Poland in white.

Dear Lydia i fully understand your sincer passions and love for Britain. You'r indeed a lovely fan. However in today's professional, commercial football, the noble values like pride, commitment and valuing fan's sentiments are forgotten by those who make decision for football. As a matter of fact players, coaches and clubowners first of all think of securing more TV revenues and saving finance for future since the wheels of soccer are spun by money not passion.
lol lydia - Ireland doesn't enter a team into any football competitions. The Republic of Ireland does, and Northern Ireland does.
SUPERMAN Englands ficticious position on the Worlds Soccer List has to be revamped , they seemed to play on 2000 rankings , when England had better players to choose from , but they have retired or been pensioned off once they reach 35 yrs. Let's list the teams who can be placed higher than England ....................SPAIN , GERMANY , BRAZIL,MEXICO, ARGENTINA, PORTUGAL ,ITALY,JAPAN,CROATIA, RUSSIA , GHANA, IVORY COAST,USA are at the moment better when competing against England and other European nations.....................so England's ranking should be recognised as much lower and supporters should recognise that reality is catching Englands 5 th place in the World as at presently ludicrous................HODGSON TELL YOUR PLAYERS AND THE F.A. THAT OTHERWISE YOU ARE DUPING THE ENGLISH PUBLIC INTO BELIEVING WHAT IS NOT TRUE IN 2012
England,Wales,Ireland and Scotland shouldnt bother entering any competitions.Small nation like Monternago are better.
There are no words to say about this England team with their poor passing. They are the same level as San Marino..
I didnt have any hope poland were going to beat England .Its not a bad result for them..I thought they were not going to score.i was happy when they did.I watch by god they did deserve it. If Poland were a better would have beat England.
Very poor performance by all english players.Poles should win the game easily 3:1. Roy please rethink-next game must be better!!! Tom
Very poor performance by english team.Poland should won easily 3:1. Roy please rethink ,next time must be better! Tom
time for england to find some new talent ....
time for england to try a new goalkeeper
the poles played very well tonight (ranked in the 60s world rankings) its just england are over rated ranked 5th thought they just turn up and win,no bottle tonight well done to the poles. oh the crowd were brilliant
Well I just watched this match with a bunch of friends in a cafe/bar in Rio de Janeiro, where we can watch 5 Premier League games for free every weekend - the locals love our league football but like most of you who have commented, think our national team is absolute S**t*. We seem specialists in giving the ball away, but that's been so for ages.... I don't think we'll ever learn to play a better more modern game at national level.
Lom and James i can't approve of your conclusions. The problem of the English football is deeper than that to be solved with Redknap or congenital champions. Attention to Spain, Germany and Barca's remarkable performance demonstrate their secret of success lies in efficient management and working and planning on promising teenagers. For example in Spain over 27000 coaches are training young talents. or in Germany players have a 40-day break between two half seasons for recovery. But what about in England? Furthure the English coaches aren't knowledgable and in English, commerce and club football have absolute advantage over everything.
put it this way, England will never compete at international level, love EPL but is the arab and russian dirty money spinning it towards the sky, there's no real football here just over paid footballers who fart about when they play for their national team, out of the whole English team you barely can pick one player who can fit in in a team like Barca, Real Madrid, Borussia, Milan etc, as Ali said: Champions are not made in gyms and training grounds they're born to win, dont see anyone in the English squad who can truly lift the European Cup or World Cup, definitely no Rooney! lol
Cant for the life of me understand how England are ranked in the top 5 in the world, they are maybe the best of the home teams and so they should be for the size of the Country, but top 5,what #$%$ decided this.
Your all missing the point, love him or hate him Harry Redknapp was the man for the job or was it a case of silly handshakes that got Roy Hodgson the nod either way he was #$%$ at Liverpool and he's #$%$ for England another very nice yes man!!!!
That was a horrible performance by the English team. They should realise that the way they usually play is out of date (as Amir my friend said), the future of the football is the tiki taka. Let's take the Spanish team. Win EURO 2008, WC 2010, EURO 2012... Just with tiki taka. That's what to do. That's the way England also could develop and become successful.
You are right Geoff. England is going nowhere as it's playstyle is out of date and players prefere club interests and keeping uninjured to everything else because it is premier league that fills pockets not national games. Moreover Hadgson has resorted to that very expired traditional football which is long put aside. For this England, the cradel of football, is unable to keep pace with powers like Spain and Germany
Just seen gerrard on news sayin the lad's know thry can play better, he alway's say's it, but they never do.!!
England are #$%$
