    • 83' Toulalan sends in a hopeful cross that is hacked away...
    • 82' This is a great chance for France now! Just under 10 minutes to grab a late winner... Sagna hobbles off for more treatment but he'll be fine.
    • 81' URUGUAY ARE DOWN TO 10 MEN! Lodeiro is sent off! It's a second booking for the substitute as he goes in late on Sagna! He knows it straight away, and he's off!
    • 80' Victorino wins the ball in the air, but Uruguay can't make anything of possession and France win a throw-in.
    • 79' MALOUDA! Oooh! That's not too far away from the Chelsea man, as his shot pings just wide of Muslera's post!
    • 77' Malouda send over a free-kick, but Muslera claims without much ado.
    • 76' Fifteen minutes to go and let's hope this game will catch fire now.
    • 75' Time for Malouda to enter the fray now... Gourcuff exits.
    • 74' Uruguay make another change now... the disappointing Suarez is replaced by Abreu.
    • 73' FORLAN! No! You would have put your money on him scoring that one! But he drags his shot wide of the mark! What a chance to put his side into the lead!
    • 72' Here comes Henry, as Anelka's first World Cup match is brought to an end. You can almost hear the boos coming from Dublin...
    • 71' Henry is coming on - he's got his trackpants halfway off... what odds he scores the winner?
    • 70' Match image Scenes in Paris
    • 69' Here's another yellow card, this time for Toulalan for a trip on Alvaro Pereira... there's a bit of afters as Domenech and Lugano get involved.... needless handbags at close quarters.
    • 68' Henry is shown striding purposefully back to the bench... is he coming on?
    • 67' Suarez challenges Lloris for a high ball into the box... but the Uruguay hitman fouls the Lyon keeper and France have a free-kick.
    • 66' France are lacking someone who can pick the lock of Uruguay's door here... they need a lift from somewhere... badly.
    • 65' Wow, that's impressive from Lodeiro, who is booked less than a minute after having come on.
    • 64' Forlan takes the free-kick... it's not a bad effort, whipped in towards goal and across the line of players... no one gets a touch on it though and despite a bounce just before it reaches Lloris, the France keeper makes the save.
    • 63' Here comes the first change of the game... Gonzalez is replaced by Lodeiro.
    • 62' Forlan plays in Pereira down the Uruguay right, but Toulalan recovers well to make a good challenge.
    • 61' This is becoming a poor game, despite a bright start... it needs a bit of fresh blood to liven things up. Malouda or Henry possibly.
    • 60' Gourcuff rolls it along the edge of the penalty area to Ribery! But his first-time effort is sliced wide of the mark!
    • 59' Gourcuff is over it... if his delivery is on the money here, there'll be trouble...
    • 58' Evra runs onto Diaby's ball through and Victorino brings down the Manchester United man! Yellow for the Universidad de Chile defender and a free-kick for France!
    • 57' Here come France again, with Evra... but again Les Bleus can't find a way through the Uruguayan defence...
    • 56' Toulalan tries his luck from 40 yards... but Lazio's Muslera is a decent keeper and he's not going to be beaten from that distance.
    • 55' Ribery is frustrated by a decent challenge by Lugano... we've really not seen the best of the Bayern Munich man today.
    • 54' Match image Parker from Thunderbirds... no, sorry, it's Raymond Domenech
    • 53' Gallas took a stud in the chest after that shot by Forlan... he'll be fine though...
    • 52' Super play from Forlan, who takes the ball down brilliantly on his chest but he can't direct his shot on target and the ball balloons over the bar! Still, if Uruguay are going to score tonight, it's likely to be the former Manchester United man.
    • 51' Match image Gourcuff tumbles over Perreira
    • 50' The Atletico Madrid man does... but Diaby rises like a salmon to head clear before Godin could reach it at the far post!
    • 49' Diaby sends Suarez to the ground and Uruguay have a free-kick in a dangerous position... Forlan is over it again and will look to swing one into the box.
    • 48' France's subs are out on the touchline, having a little warm-up. If things stay goalless for another, say, 20 minutes, we should see some fresh blood injected.
    • 47' Toulalan makes an early break down the France left... he gets his cross over, but Muslera is there to claim.
    • 46' No changes to tell you about at the break.
    • 46' Here we go again as Uruguay get things back underway in Cape Town!

    • 45'+1 Gourcuff sends in a French free-kick... Muslera punches clear and soon after the half-time whistle sounds! France and Uruguay head in at the break goalless.
    • 45' Just one minute of added time to be played at the end of the first half.
    • 44' Ribery slips a pass through to Diaby in the penalty area, but the big Arsenal midfielder cannot make anything of his advanced position.
    • 43' Said asks the question: "is Henry playing?", due to the erroneous citing of the Barcelona player by yours truly. Of course he's not. Anelka was the man who messed that particular move up. Henry is on the bench, apparently to some dismay from his team-mates. Apologies for that. The comment has been amended.
    • 42' Sagna whips in a decent enough ball from the right... Anelka gets his head to it! But his glancing header goes wide of the post!
    • 41' The game's just lost a bit of the intensity we had earlier on...
    • 40' It might have been innocuous enough, but Parreira is struggling with that knock... looks like he might just have jarred it...
    • 39' Parreira is caught by Govou... nothing cynical from the France forward though and the ref keeps his cards close to his chest.
    • 37' Here come France, with Anelka, but he's stoped in his tracks as he tries to waltz through the South Americans' defence.
    • 36' Sir alex says (not THE Sir Alex): "France on paper have a much better squad then England, but football of course is not played on paper, & they indeed had an atrocious qualification campaign. Although with the players they have they have as much chance of lifting the trophy as England or any other average side do."
    • 35' Uruguay have a free-kick here... Forlan over it... but his effort doesn't get past the head of Toulalan and France clear their lines.
    • 34' Suarez is caught offside as Forlan slips the ball through to him...
    • 33' Match image Some typically rugged Uruguayan defending
    • 32' Esteemed reader ANDREW says: "This ball is far too light, it will detract from the quality of the game and the rest of the tournament. This ball shouild be replaced by a more tried and trusted type of ball."
    • 31' Lovely stuff from Diaby... great pass through for Govou, but Anelka takes the ball instead - and the offside flag goes up! Shame because Govou would have been through there...
    • 30' Forlan again does well on the Uruguay left... he's looking their most dangerous player by far.
    • 29' France have not lost a World Cup match against South American opponents since a 2-1 defeat against Argentina in 1978. In their current run of five unbeaten matches against Latin American opponents, they have faced Brazil three times.
    • 28' ANELKA! Govou's cross is poorly dealt with by Lugano and it nearly comes to the Chelsea man! Victorino hooks clear at the last to keep the scores goalless!
    • 27' Another brilliant turn by Forlan, but this time his ball meant for Pereira out wide finds only a white shirt (France are in white tonight, by the way).
    • 26' Forlan turns well, but his ball through looking for Suarez is cut out by Sagna.
    • 25' Twenty-five minutes gone and still no breakthrough... but France have had the better of the opening period of play so far.
    • 24' There won't be any Darren Bent/beach ball nonsense today - the referee stops the game as a stray pair of balloons are deflated.
    • 23' Anelka looks dangerous here as he skips past a challenge... he should play Gourcuff in but Godin recovers to make an important challenge.
    • 22' Match image A France fan kisses his cock
    • 21' Ribery plays it to Toulalan, who feeds Gourcuff... the Bordeaux ace fires a shot off, but it's way over the bar and Muslera is not unduly troubled.
    • 20' France’s only win against Uruguay came in an August 1985 friendly in Paris. The match finished 2-0.
    • 19' Ribery joins Evra in the book for pulling his man Arevalo back.
    • 18' Ribery wins a free-kick, which Gourcuff will take... the Bordeaux man swings it in... oooh! Great effort! He nearly catches Muslera out at his near post with a terrific shot that looked destined for the top corner! Match image
    • 17' No Uruguayan player has scored in multiple World Cups since three players scored in their second World Cup in 1954. Forlan can join this bunch having scored in the 2002 World Cup.
    • 16' FORLAN! Ooh! He only needs a sniff of a chance! He cuts inside the leaden-footed Gallas before trying to bend it into the corner! Lloris is equal to it this time with a flying save!
    • 16' Match image Uruguay team line up before kick-off
    • 15' Moments later Anelka sees a header fly over the bar! France are enjoying things so far...
    • 14' Down to the other end and Govou wins a corner for France! Gourcuff takes it towards Govou, who sees his header blocked!
    • 13' Lloris nearly gets caught on by the bounce of the ball! But the Lyon man recovers well to claim.
    • 12' Perez nicks the ball off Evra, who pulls him back and is punished with the game's first yellow card!
    • 11' Suarez looks like he's through here... he takes the pass through in his stride before firing on target! But Lloris is there to make the save - and the offside flag is up.
    • 10' Diaby fancies his chances from distance here... not quite sure why though - his effort sails high over Muslera's bar.
    • 9' It's been a decent start from Les Bleus so far...
    • 8' France have not scored in their last two opening matches at the World Cup. They have conceded only one opening match goal since 1982, the strike by Senegal’s Pape Bouba Diop that condemned the French to a 1-0 defeat their opener in 2002.
    • 7' Ribery does well to get past his man on the left Victorino... he fires a low cross into the mixer, but Govou sidefoots past the far post! His touch was simply too light! Great chance goes begging...
    • 6' Vuvezelas can be heard around the stadium... noise levels reached warp factor 10 in the earlier game between the hosts South Africa and Mexico. Match report here
    • 5' Lovely passing move by France to get out of trouble at the back, but Gourcuff's final ball isn't the best.
    • 4' Evra is penalised for holding Suarez and Uruguay have a free-kick.... headed clear by Gallas.
    • 3' Victorino humps the ball downfield for the South American side, but Gallas mops up the danger by playing back to Lloris.
    • 2' Looks like Uruguay are playing with three up front... and with France boasting an equally attacking formation, there should be goals in this one.
    • 1' The ball is pumped straight up to Ribery on the French left, but he can't keep the ball in play.
    • 1' Here we go! Underway in Cape Town!
    • 19:29 Today's referee is Japan's Yuichi Nishimura.
    • 19:27 Uruguay's national anthem is sung before France's Marseillaise blats out.
    • 19:25 Here come the teams to a packed Green Point Stadium in Cape Town!
    • 19:25 In terms of zodiacal signs, Raymond Domenech has picked every sign at least once. The much maligned Scorpio sign is represented by Anthony Reveillere. There are six Leo signs in the French squad. No other sign is represented more than twice. Domenech has admitted that the zodiac is a factor in his selection process.
    • 19:25 If Thierry Henry sees some action and scores, he will have netted in three different World Cups. The only Frenchmen to have achieved that are Michel Platini and Dominique Rocheteau, who both netted in 1978, 1982 and 1986.
    • 19:25 Current team boss Oscar Tabarez was also in charge of Uruguay in that match. Tabarez joins Juan Lopez (1950-1954) as the only coaches to lead Uruguay in multiple World Cup campaigns.
    • 19:25 Noisy fans streamed to Green Point stadium as night fell over Cape Town, with dazzling yellow South Africa shirts outnumbering the sky blue of Uruguay and dark blue of France. More here
    • 19:25 Uruguay have won only one of their last 16 World Cup matches. In 1990, they defeated Korea Republic 1-0. Daniel Fonseca scored Uruguay's only goal.
    • 19:20 The head-to-heads look like this: France and Uruguay have met five times before with Uruguay winning twice and France winning once. There have been two draws.
    • 19:15 Interestingly, this match is between the last two countries to qualify for the 2010 World Cup: France were the 31st to qualify and Uruguay were the 32nd to qualify.
    • 19:10 With the competition underway, there won't be a dull minute for the next four and a half weeks. All the latest World Cup news here
    • 19:10 Uruguay are also in that elite group of seven nations - they are two time world champions and are heading to the World Cup for the 11th time. In South America, they trail only Brazil (19) and Argentina (15) in World Cup appearances.
    • 19:05 France are one of seven nations to have won the World Cup. Les Bleus are the last team to win the World Cup before a home crowd. Their triumph in 1998 marks their best showing in the competition.
    • 19:00 Uruguay coach Oscar Tabarez picks Egidio Arevalo rather than Walter Gargano in midfield. The danger for France, however, was expected come from the two-times world champions' strike partnership of Diego Forlan and Luis Suarez.
    • 18:55 So, France coach Raymond Domenech springs a huge surprise by fielding midfielder Abou Diaby in his starting line-up instead of Florent Malouda (who has been one of the Premier League's best players this season). Thierry Henry again loses his place to Nicolas Anelka and the captain's armband to Patrice Evra. Domenech sticks with a bold 4-3-3 formation including one holding midfielder. William Gallas, fully recovered from a calf injury, is partnered by Eric Abidal in central defence.
    • 18:50 Teams: Uruguay: 1-Fernando Muslera; 2-Diego Lugano, 3-Diego Godin, 6-Mauricio Victorino; 16-Maximiliano Pereira, 15-Diego Perez, 17-Egidio Arevalo, 18-Ignacio Gonzalez; 11-Alvaro Pereira, 9-Luis Suarez, 10-Diego Forlan /// France: 1-Hugo Lloris; 2-Bacary Sagna, 3-Eric Abidal, 5-William Gallas, 13-Patrice Evra; 8-Yoann Gourcuff, 14-Jeremy Toulalan, 19-Abou Diaby; 10-Sidney Govou, 21-Nicolas Anelka, 7-Franck Ribery.
    • 18:45 France meet Uruguay at the Cape Town Stadium in the second Group A clash on the opening day of the World Cup.
