Live Commentary

  1. - So join us later this afternoon - at 12:00 British time for Free Practice 2.

  2. - So that will be the end of the session - the BMW's were the ones to make the late impact on those super-soft tyres but Lewis Hamilton is the quickest.

  3. - Button goes wide on the final corner his final lap so he will finish fifth.

  4. - We've had the chequered flag so it is the last chance for everyone - Kubica has just gone third with the super-softs. Kovalainen has jumped up to sixth.

  5. - Nick Heidfeld comes out on super soft tyres and posts the second fastest lap of the day. He was beating Hamilton too in the opening stage of the lap.

  6. - Alonso has moved from 20th to 18th!!

  7. - Sebastien Buemi's engine has just died on him and he has had to park up on the side of the track. He was only 19th fastest too. Not a good day for the Swiss driver who actually lives in Bahrain.

  8. - Well you can scrap that top 10 because Rober Kubica has just posted his best lap of the day which sees him jump five places from 14th to ninth.

  9. - So let's have another look at the top 10 with just 10 minutes to go. 1. L Hamilton McLaren 2. N Rosberg Williams 3. J Button Brawn 4. R Barrichello Brawn 5. F Massa Ferrari 6. H Kovalainen McLaren 7. M Webber Red Bull 8. K Raikkonen Ferrari 9. S Vettel Red Bull 10.N Piquet Jr Renault

  10. - Button now produces the third quickest lap - seems like Brawn have solved whatever problem they might have had.

  11. - Back to the real stuff and the Brawn's begin to show their teeth - Barrichello has just put in the third quickest lap and Button the eight.

  12. - Another option for you gamers out there is our Racing Manager game. You get it all here on eurosport.yahoo.co.uk

  13. - On the other sign of the coin - Barrichello is 10th and Button just 16th - maybe leave the Brawn's off your Fantasy GP this weekend. What is Fantasy GP I hear some of you cry? You mean you haven't signed up.

  14. - Raikkonen has just put in the sixth fastest lap - so Massa third and Raikkonen sixth - Ferrari will take that.

  15. - Hamilton is still the only driver to have gone under 1:34 - a suprising name bottom of the time sheets at the moment - Mr. Fernando Alonso.

  16. - Felipe Massa has posted the third quickest time - Raikkonen 13th at the moment so mixed signs from the troubled Ferrari team.

  17. - A few cars have locked up between turn nine and 10 - drivers coming in there a little too fast - but hey what is free practice for other than to sort such things out.

  18. - 40 minutes to go and this is the top 10: 1. L Hamilton McLaren 2. N Rosberg Williams 3. H Kovalainen McLaren 4. N Piquet Jr Renault 5. M Webber Red Bull 6. J Trulli Toyota 7. K Nakajima Williams 8. F Massa Ferrari 9. K Raikkonen Ferrari 10. T Glock Toyota

  19. - Hamilton has gone under 1:34 now - the first driver to do so - a lap of 1:33.647.

  20. - Hamilton has just gone fastest with a time of 1:34.189 - it seems to be taking the cars a couple of laps to warm up the tyres and get a bit of speed. Kovalainen is third fastest so far too so decent speed from the McLarens.

  21. - First look at a Brawn today - Brawn has done his first flying lap but is only ninth - over a second behind Rosberg.

  22. - Nice speed from Nico Rosberg - he has posted a 1:34.363 which is the fastest so far - Lewis Hamilton third fastest with his first lap - he seems to be fastest in the first sector before losing time later in the lap.

  23. - Not all bad though - very next lap Raikkonen posts 1:35.055 which is the fastest early lap so far. Plenty of the big boys still in the garage but we are getting more and more action now.

  24. - Well not a great early start to the weekend for Ferrari - Kimi Raikkonen has a little slip into the gravel on turn two - nothing major but enough to get a few people saying "oh not again."

  25. - Sebastien Bourdais the first man out on the track for a proper lap - Kimi Raikkonen quickly follows.

  26. - I'm sure Bernie and Max were offered lots of money to have a GP in Bahrain - pity there is nobody in the stands to watch it though.

  27. - The installation laps has been completed and now we play the waiting game before we have a few flying laps - this could take a while of course - we always seem to have this phoney war before the meaty stuff starts - all the cars in the garage at the moment.

  28. - Welcome to our LIVE coverage of free practice from Bahrain - we are underway.

But we should not be carried away, the early battle might have been won, but the race is still on.. Lets not conclude yet, in any aspect.. Wishing all the teams & drivers save race and less accident.. Keep the heat on guys
