- Alonso proves that it was the tyres holding him back as, after switching to the softs, he records a competitive time to move into fourth.
- Hamilton moves into eighth, pushing down Brawn duo Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello.
- Nico Rosberg snatches first place from Trulli, the Williams driver setting a 1:33.339.
- Fernando Alonso is still the slowest on the track, with the Renault team blaming the tyres.
- Piquet is up to 12th with a decent gain in his Renault; Trulli remains top of the pile with his 1:33.6.
- Hamilton sets a good first-sector time on his next lap, and could be on for a lap-time to finally lift him above 10th spot.
- Lewis Hamilton is now on the super-softs, and has a little lock-up on turn 10.
- A gain for Bourdais, who moves up to ninth, while Raikkonen finally shows some promise, moving up three places to 14th.
- Massa records a promising lap, moving up five places to 10th with a 1:34.6

- Nakajima records a very pacey first-sector, in taking third place with his latest lap, which pushes Barrichello and Webber down a place.
- Trulli gets some turn in oversteer through turn 9, but prevents his Toyota spinning at turn 10. Kovalainen picks up four spots, moving to ninth.

- Sutil looks to be on a flyer, with a lightning start to his lap.

Chastewand: do I need to point out to you the stupidity of your post?
when was the last time that every car was within 1.5 seconds of each other? many people are sayin that Maclaren and Ferrari (especially Ferrari) have been out of their depth this season, but they are still within very close and competitive times.
This can only be good for Formula, having everyone being so close...

Two ferrari's behind Nelson Piquet and the Force India Squad. How can it get worse!
Mr. Hamilton, wake up to reality.
Well it looks like another weekend of ZERO points for the big red cart horse team. But remember one and all this is only free practise. The final quailfying position will tell the true story.
It's because the "lap record" is for race-conditions in that race type.
"lap records" are shown for each race type and are not the "ultimate possible fastest time that anyone has gone around that track".
Lap record for the track is taken from official race times.
Appaling English guys sorry. What I meant to say was how can the fastest pole be faster than the fastest lap? I'm just being pedantic anyway.
