Live Commentary

  1. 0' All action in the last five minutes and it's Alonso who ends up on top of the timesheets - check out all the final times on the left.

  2. 5' There is something of a tail wind coming into Stowe which might throw the backend out but that hasn't prevented Webber breaking 1:22 with Hamilton, finally on dry, second with 1:22.155.

  3. 10' All teams bar McLaren on dry tyres now and Sebastien Vettel (Toro Rosso) and Mark Webber (Red Bull) have dipped under 1:23.

  4. 15' And now even quicker by the German, 1:25.332. Sebastien Bourdais (Toro Rosso) is the only other drive to have dipped under 1:30.

  5. 20' Nick Heidfeld is way ahead on 1:27.300 after using dry tyres.

  6. 25' The track temperature is 18 degrees celsius now and BMW have put the dry rubber on.

  7. 30' When the times drop below 1:30, the teams will look to put the dry tyres on.

  8. 35' Lap times are now falling as the drivers find the dry line and Massa has conjured up a 1:31.577 lap with the soon to retire David Coulthard second at 1:32.119.

  9. 40' Hamilton top of the time sheets now with 1:32.640 ahead of title rivals Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa who are a tenth and two tenths slower respectively.

  10. 45' Fernando Alonso (Renault) 1:34.648 over half a second quicker than Lewis Hamilton (McLaren) 1:35.176 while Trulli has improved to 1:35.595.

  11. 50' Jarno Trulli (Toyota) is the first driver to post a flying lap - 1:38.410.

  12. 10:00 Welcome to a wet Silverstone for final practice although the rain has relented for the start of the session.
