- Free Practice 1 report: Vettel, Red Bull lead way
- The top eight: 1. Vettel 2. Webber 3. Button 4. Barrichello 5. Alonso 6. Massa 7. Trulli 8. Hamilton
0'
No one improves and German Vettel finishes first practice on top.
0'
The chequered flag comes out: anyone on a flying lap could still beat him...
1'
Vettel goes fastest in the final minute, his time a decent 1:19.400.
2' Ecclestone isn't giving up any information about his meeting with Max as the session winds down to a conclusion...
4' Hamilton hits traffic as the Red Bull re-emerge for a final run after a quick tinker.
7' Vettel second behind team-mate Webber with the Brawns following - Button third.
9' We have other F1 news for you on Eurosport-Yahoo!, such as: Montreal set for 2010?
10' Hamilton on his out lap, currently ninth. Adrian Sutil is ahead of him in the Force India, great going from him. The other VJM-02, that of Giancarlo Fisichella, is 16th.
11'
Mosley will "issue a statement later on".
12' Bourdais 12th after improving a great deal over the last few laps. Webber still on top.
14'
Glock leaves the track at Club, spinning his TF109 on to the grass.
15' Kovalainen's KERS isn't working out for him - or he just isn't driving very well - as he sits 19th, with only Buemi below him. Nick Heidfeld's woes continue in 18th, with BMW team-mate Robert Kubica only one place higher.
17' Massa going well, fourth now and ahead of Button; Barrichello is third.
20' Vettel moves ahead of Button and into second.
21' Webber improves to 1:19.682.
22'
Webber takes over at the top with 1:20.234. That is significant because Red Bull are Brawn's closest competitors. Vettel in the other RB5 is now third, with Trulli in the Toyota ahead of Barrichello. Teams' standings
24' 'nickmorgs' has a question below: the answer is that McLaren want to compare the performance of Kovalainen's MP4-24 with KERS and Lewis's without the technology. By tomorrow they should be running the same systems.
26'
Button in P1 after only 12 laps in his BGP001. His time is 1:20.487.
26' How much money does F1 stand to lose if those teams depart? To find out, click here.
28' Hamilton was 12th and now goes seventh, pushing Button out of the top eight - but the latter Briton sneaks up to third behind Brawn chum Barrichello.
30' Button out and about and seventh in the timesheets.
31'
Trulli P1 with 1:20.585. The lap record, incidentally, is held by Michael Schumacher - 1:18.739.
33' Vettel was quite happy with the new-look RB5 before the start of practice: 'Duck's beak' for revised Red Bull
36'
Button still to appear as team-mate Rubens Barrichello goes P1 with 1:20.749. McLaren are using that 'flo-vis' paint on the front wing of Hamilton's MP4-24 - it shows the flow of air around the car.
38' FOTA members BMW Sauber, Brawn GP, Ferrari, McLaren, Red Bull, Renault, Toro Rosso and Toyota are the teams pulling out over the new regulations: The full FOTA statement
40' Button is the only driver not to set a lap-time. You can bet that he will be setting some pretty quick ones at some point later on. Drivers' standings
42'
Aussie Webber lays down a faster time of 1:20.865 in his Red Bull.
45'
Rosberg fastest on a 1:21.673.
46' Massa having trouble with traffic, almost flying into the back of one of the Force Indias and also coming around Copse alongside a Renault.
48'
A flurry of times faster than Massa's, set in quick succession: Fernando Alonso, Nico Rosberg, Vettel, Raikkonen and finally Mark Webber - he is now in P1 with 1:21.726.
50'
Ferrari star Massa is in P1 with 1:22.469. Sixteen drivers on track with their updated cars. The two Ferraris and McLaren's Heikki Kovalainen are the only cars to sport KERS this weekend.
52' Eurosport blogger Nelson Piquet Jr is the first driver to spin this weekend, at Copse. It was just a small one in the Renault R29. Most drivers now out on track.
55' Trulli lowers his mark to 1:22.890. Over half a second clear of Buemi in P2.
58'
Raikkonen back into the pits as Jarno Trulli sets a fastest lap of 1:23.260s.
61' Buemi on a 1:24.180. Those clouds are actually looking pretty menacing... on the start/finish straight it is as gloomy as hell.
63'
FIA president Max Mosley is in the paddock and straight into Bernie Ecclestone's motorhome/bus/pad. What could they possibly be discussing? This? FIA: We will not be held to ransom
64' Most drivers still chilling out as Buemi goes 1:25.202. Timo Glock of Toyota the other driver now setting lap-times.
67' Buemi lowers it once then again to 1:27.212. Hamilton out and in again after a couple of circuits.
69'
Buemi sets the first mark of 1:32.168. He can have a P1 nonetheless.
70'
One of our readers 'catalin' is getting all emotional amid memories of Murray Walker. Just for you love: we are GO GO GO!!! In first practice.
72' Brawn's runaway championship leader Button practises his start in the pit-lane then takes her for a quicker test around the long curves of Silverstone.
73' Sebastien Buemi heads back out in the Toro Rosso.
75' Fabio Capello is on the pit wall, a guest of Renault top dawg Flavio Briatore. He's had his say on Stuart Pearce's fledgling Euro U21 campaign in this story (if you were hoping to stay away from footy, sorry): Pearce impressed by Walcott reaction
80' Felipe Massa, Lewis Hamilton and Kimi Raikkonen complete the field and everyone is back in their respective garages.
83' A few cars have been out for tentative initial laps, led by Red Bull star Sebastian Vettel. Jenson Button is one of the last to conduct an installation lap.
86' There are bits of blue sky poking through heavy cloud. It shouldn't rain at least. The session, of course, lasts for an hour and a half.
90' The weather is grey as the clock starts on first practice, with a wind speed of 4.7m/s, track temp of 22 degrees celsius, air temp of 14 and humidity of 58 per cent. Alternative forecast

catalin asked "I have a question ? What happens to nico and kazuki between practice and qualy ?" The simple answer is nothing happens. Look at their times during free practice in Turkey. They remain essentially the same thoughout and their positions remain relatively the same from one session to the next. BUT, when qualifying starts their times don't improve significantly, while many others do. The result is a slide down the grid not because they've gotten worse but because the others have gotten better.
its gowing to be a good one
Nico flys on very low fuel, so his name will be first on TV and on Newspapers.
He does it all the time. it's a comercial thing to get more attractive.
in that statement...mosley will tell us that he will resign...NOT :))
what aero modifications are available to the teams ?
whats new for them ?
does anyone know ?
come on lewis go 4 it
jenson will save his best for qually
