Live Commentary
0:00 A truly stunning conclusion to qualifying from the championship leader. Hamilton took a bold, brave line and went for broke. The result is a second pole in two appearances at the Montreal track and the opportunity to repeat his triumph in Canada 12 months ago.

HAMILTON!!! WHAT A LAP FROM THE BRITON!! Robert Kubica had pole for about 30 seconds, but Hamilton stole it with his last attempt. Raikkonen will be third on the grid, with Alonso in fourth.
1:23 We're at the business end of things now, and the track continues to play havoc with times - which were expected to be closer to 1:12. Massa is in fifth, with Raikkonen in second for Ferrari.
4:31 Hamilton gets down to 1:18.510. He has a massive lead. McLaren have cracked this somehow, and it's not clear how.
5:30 Alonso is up into second! What a drive from the Spaniard, and a real surprise to see him at the front.
7:00 Hamilton laps in 1:19.721, with Massa in second and Raikkonen in third.
8:30 The tactics are straightforward here. Teams are trying to get their driver out and into it as soon as possible, bearing in mind the surface is getting gradually worse.
10:00
And we're under way with the shootout. Bits of tarmac are breaking away on the track and this could be very interesting indeed.
Q3 The track at turn three is being swept for the second time. Conditions are not easy for drivers out there, with debris making the turns trickier than usual.
0:00 Webber makes the top 10, but he smashes into a wall on his final lap of section two and looks unlikely to be able to take part in the shootout.
0:00 Last chance saloon now, Hamilton still leads. Kazuki Nakajima went fast, but not fast enough. He's 12th and outside the shootout. Nelson Piquet Jnr also misses out, he's down in 15th.
2:52 Fernando Alonso pushing hard here...he laps in 1:17.575 to move into fourth.
4:21
Celebrity watch: Michael Douglas is at the race, and he's looking pretty good for his 125 years.
8:19 Hamilton goes quicker still, but we're still a long way short of the times you'd expect. Mark Webber is up into third.
10:01 Glock into second. Hamilton back in the lead! He's using the softer tires, and laps in 1:17.400.
11:56 Rosberg laps in 1:17.970 and we have a new leader! Kovalainen is next, with Timo Glock third. Hamilton, for now, is back in fourth.
13:50 Hamilton topping the speed charts at just over 318kmh...his car's running well and it's all looking bright for the Briton.
Q2 Off they go in the second section!
0:00 That's it for session one. Hamilton has the advantage.
0:46 Jarno Trulli spins off onto the grass. Meanwhile, Felipe Massa moves into second with 1:17.131. Button's qualifying is over, as is Sebastian Vittel's.
4:35 Hamilton still fastest, with Heikki Kovalainen next and Raikkonen in third. Jenson Button is struggling, and he's into the pit with a "terminal gearbox problem" - not good.
6:50 David Coulthard is currently in seventh, he was going well on that lap but had a messy finish and lost time.
9:34
Hamilton went extremely close to the wall on his last lap - he takes the pole slot with 1:16.909. Superb driving from the Briton, he used every inch of the track to his advantage and reaped the reward.
11:32 Raikkonen gets his time down to 1:17.301 to hold the lead. He's gone three laps in a row.
12:50 Hamilton was possibly held up a little, and he completes his first lap in 1:18.479 - placing him fifth.
15:36 Kimi Raikkonen laps in 1:17.684 to go ahead. They're all pretty slow so far, we can expect 1:12s later on.
Q1
We're under way with the first of three sessions, and Adrian Sutil looks likely to be the first to post a time - It's 1:20.785...not that impressive.
- It's round seven of the F1 Championship, and we're in Montreal with Lewis Hamilton leading the standings. Hamilton won his first ever race here 12 months ago, and he returns with sixth wins under his belt.
