57/57
Felipe Massa WINS!! A tremendous performance from the Brazilian, who claims his ninth F1 race victory barring any late drama here. Lewis Hamilton will be happy with his day's work and actually increases his championship lead from five to six points, with Massa going second ahead of Raikkonen.
56/57 Some great performances today, particularly from Jarno Trulli, Sebastian Vettel and Timo Glock. No points for Jenson Button or David Coulthard.
54/57 This result looks nailed on - there are few battles for position and Felipe Massa will cross the line first. But will he keep his win?
52/57 With just over five laps to go it is: 1-Massa, 2-Hamilton, 3-Kubica, 4-Kovalainen, 5-Trulli, 6-Vettel, 7-Glock, 8-Rosberg.
51/57 It seems that Massa will not face any retrospective punishment, but could be given a 10-place grid penalty for the next race.
49/57
News on that Ferrari mechanic. It "shouldn't be too bad", according to the team's press officer, who basically blames Kimi Raikkonen.
47/57
It is disaster heaped upon disaster for Ferrari. Kimi Raikkonen's engine blows up and he is out of the race!
45/57 Further to the Massa incident, a decision on that will be made after the race. That Ferrari mechanic has been attended by a Toyota doctor. Raikkonen's right-rear wheel hit him with some force.
44/57
Raikkonen and Kovakainen come in simultaneously... who will get out first? RAIKKONEN GOES TOO EARLY AND TAKES THE FUEL HOSE WITH HIM!! He hit a mechanic. That looks horrible. In race terms, the Finn only loses a single place.
43/57
Boof! Adrian Sutil runs off and sticks his Force India into the tyre wall. It is a low-speed crash but he still snaps his front-right wheel off.
42/57 No news yet from that steward's enquiry. A penalty would hand victory to Lewis Hamilton, who is 5.7 seconds behind.
41/57 In comes Kubica from third place, and gets away smoothly on an empty track.
39/57 Lewis Hamilton comes in and out - he returns just behind his team-mate Heikki Kovalainen but, crucially, ahead of Kubica. Meanwhile there is talk that the stewards are looking into that Massa incident and could penalise the race leader.
38/57 Felipe Massa pits again and comes out wheel-to-wheel with Adrian Sutil! He just avoids contact but has to make way for him.
36/57 Massa sets a 1:38.7, fastest lap of the race. No response from Hamilton. Second not a bad result for the championship leader.
34/57 Massa's lead is now up to 8.5 seconds - serene. Nelson Piquet is in for his only stop.
32/57 Timo Glock has come in for his one and only stop. He comes back out in ninth but has a clear run to the end. He should secure a very good points finish.
31/57 Rubens Barrichello and Kazuki Nakajima both pit - they are running second-to-last and last respectively.
30/57 Ohhhh! Mark Webber overshoots coming into the pits and the jack man reacts nimbly to avoid physical harm. A scary moment..
29/57 This is a sort-of consolidating part of the race. No overtaking, just drivers jockeying for position.
28/57 Now Timo Glock closes the gap on Heikki Kovalainen! He is 3.3 seconds behind the fourth-placed Finn.
26/57 Sixth-place Kimi Raikkonen is being caught by Jarno Trulli. The difference in performance between the two Ferraris is incredible.
25/57 The gap is now 5.4 seconds. Hamilton has no answer to Felipe Massa's pace.
24/57 Hamilton had reduced Massa's lead to three seconds after the pit stop but it is now back up to 4.5 seconds. This race is the Brazilian's to lose.
23/57 It is 1-Massa, 2-Hamilton, 3-Kubica, 4-Kovalainen, 5-Glock (no stop), 6-Raikkonen, 7-Trulli, 8-Vettel.
21/57 Kovalainen is the last of the leaders to come in. He comes out just in front of Nick Heidfeld, who is on his first stint.
20/57 Heikki Kovalainen now leads ahead of his first stop. Trulli pits from fifth.
19/57 Kubica pits, and so does Raikkonen, who takes on a lot of fuel and is gearing up for a long second stint.
18/57 Hamilton pits! An 8.9-second stop and he's away.... behind Raikkonen and Massa! Advantage Ferrari.
17/57 Hamilton sets the fastest lap of the race - a 1:38.8. He'll have to really go some if he wants to get in and out of the pits in front of Massa.
16/57 Massa comes into the pits for an early stop! It is a 9.1-second stop and Lewis Hamilton inherits the race lead. Massa comes out immediately in front of Raikkonen - disaster for the Finn!
14/57 Massa's lead is up to 4.5 seconds now. He is just starting to assert himself and Hamilton has no answer.
13/57 Kimi Raikkonen is dropping further and further back - he is now 18 seconds adrift in fifth place. Kubica is still out there with that dodgy wing. Maybe it was a bit of rubbish that has now come loose?
12/57 Rubens Barrichello runs wide and lets David Coulthard through to 17th. Two men of their experience will hardly take kindly to squabbling over that position.
11/57 Sebastien Bourdais has damage to his front wing. Not sure how he sustained it, but that is going to need fixing.
10/57
Problem for Kubica! The pit crew have a new front wing ready for the Pole and he is losing bags of time...
9/57 Up at the front, Lewis Hamilton is not letting Felipe Massa get away from him. 1.8 seconds is the gap. You cannot see him overtaking, but the Briton could pull off a pit-stop pass.
8/57
Contact!! David Coulthard tries to make a move on Sutil and tags his man on the way through! He spins and a small piece of debris comes off his car. You can't help but feel he may have needed that bit.
7/57
Fernando Alonso: "Two races in Spain, two retirements. Disappointment and now we need to think forward to Spa and we'll see if the luck changes finally. We tried to go out for the fans and spectators, many of them came to see me. But we evaluated and the damage to the car was too much." Alonso said there was also a gearbox issue.
6/57 It is noticeable that the gaps between cars are quite large. It seems to be very difficult to run right on somebody's rear wing around here.
6/57 A plastic bag floats around the track in a scene not unlike American Beauty. Well, not really. And certainly not if you get a carrier bag stuck in your radiator.
5/57
Alonso has got out of his car, his race is over. Presumably the Renault mechanics found additional damage when they looked at his car.
4/57 1-Massa, 2-Hamilton, 3-Kubica, 4-Kovalainen, 5-Raikkonen, 6-Vettel, 7-Trulli, 8-Rosberg, 9-Heidfeld, 10-Glock.
3/57 David Coulthard has also dropped to the back of the grid after getting caught up in that early incident and spinning.
3/57 After two laps, Massa leads by 1.5 seconds from Hamilton, ahead of Kubica, Kovalainen, Kovalainen and Vettel.
2/57 Kazuki Nakajima ran into the back of Alonso on the first lap - both men have come into the pits. Nakajima has lost his front wing and should be OK, but Alonso has lost his wing and this will take several minutes to fix.
1/57 Alonso is touring! Disaster for the Spaniard on home soil. A simply terrible weekend for the former world champion.
1/57
The grid forms... LIGHTS OUT, GOOOOOOOOO!!!! Poor start by Hamilton who comes under pressure from Kubica, but he shuts the door! Massa leads the way.
- Off they go on the formation lap. There has been some controversy over which side of the track to put pole position. It has now been changed to the right side of the track, which probably suits Felipe Massa.
- Formula One prepares to enter new territory, and this should be an eventful race. The GP2 race earlier featured numerous crashes - we could see a safety car today.

Welcome to LIVE coverage of the European GP from Valencia! Ignore the number above - it is in fact a 57-lap race today. The starting grid is on your left.
