Live Commentary

  1. - Thank you for joining us for today's practice sessions. We'll be back this weekend with practice and qualifying on Saturday and the race on Sunday. Follow all the action from Hockenheim at the German GP LIVE with Eurosport.Yahoo.com!! You know it makes sense, Rodders.

  2. 14:34 Webber fifth fastest with his final lap, a massive improvement for him, while Britons David Coulthard and Button are 10th and 13th respectively.

  3. 14:30 And there he will stay as Massa is in the pits and Raikkonen cannot match it as the clock ticks down to zero! A double whammy of practice topping for the Briton.

  4. 14:30 HAMILTON FASTEST IN A VERY QUICK 1:15.025!!!!

  5. 14:27 After Kovalainen moves under 1:16 Hamilton going well on his own final lap after a quick tweak...

  6. 14:19 Webber takes a quick trip off the tarmac as he enters the start/finish straight.

  7. 14:14 Briton Jenson Button in 11th now after a jump from 18th. The track is quiet as the teams prepare for a final push.

  8. 14:13 Rosberg still keeping the BMWs at bay in fifth behind the big bad Ferraris and McLarens.

  9. 14:08 Hamilton still short of Massa with 20-odd minutes left to go of today's free practice.

  10. 14:01 Raikkonen closer to the top two now, just short of a 1:15. Kazuki Nakajima, yet to post a time in his Williams, finally manages to get the thing onto the circuit.

  11. 13:48 Massa nicks top spot from Hamilton. Raikkonen holds the lap record with 1:13.780, set in 2004 with McLaren, while in 2006 he took pole for the same team with 1:14.070.

  12. 13:46 Mark Webber has taken his Red Bull around many times but sits down in 16th. Raikkonen third behind Massa, who is now back out, with Kova fourth and Robert Kubica fifth in his repaired BMW. Vettel, Rosberg and Jarno Trulli's Toyota make up the top eight.

  13. 13:44 Massa improved his time to within .009 of Lewis. he has been in the garages for the last 10 minutes.

  14. 13:42 Toyota man Timo Glock, who apparently has title ambitions by 2010, with a spectacular misjudgment to go leaping along the grass at the side of the track. Vettel follows suit soon after, but only for a second or so.

  15. 13:33 Honda's Rubens Barrichello spins out alongside the straight but will be able to turn it around and get back 'on it', if you know what I mean.

  16. 13:30 Massa has another pop at it but comes up three-hundredths short - the Ferraris are not having fun in the third sector. Kovalainen jumps ahead of Alonso.

  17. 13:25 His quick opening time holding up well. Felipe Massa behind him in the lists ahead of Sebastien Vettel and Raikkonen with Fernando Alonso and Nick Heidfeld fifth and sixth respectively.

  18. 13:20 Defending world champion Kimi Raikkonen loses his Ferrari by understeering as Hamilton comes back out after tinkering with his McLaren.

  19. 13:11 Hamilton leading early on with a 1:15, taking over from Kovalainen.

  20. 13:10 The track temperature is around 23c and the conditions are much drier than they were at the beginning of practice one. Most of the grid now out.

  21. 13:03 Lewis Hamilton was fastest this morning ahead of McLaren team-mate Heikki Kovalainen. Can the golden boy of Britain follow up with a second chart-topping drive?

  22. 13:01 Sebastien Bourdais one of the first drivers out on the track. His Toro Rosso was the slowest of the 20 drivers in the first session.

  23. - Welcome back to the Hockenheimring for second practice at the German GP.
