Live Commentary

  1. 0' Adrian Sutil slides off the track... he just nudges the tyre wall but there doesn't seem to be any damage. That's the end of the session and Heikki Kovalainen takes it. We'll be back at 1pm UK time for qualifying!

  2. 5' With just a few minutes to go, it's Felipe Massa from Lewis Hamilton with Heikki Kovalainen third. Seb Vettel is going well.

  3. 11' Robert Kubica is struggling down in 19th and appears to have mechanical problems. He returns to the pits and gets disconsolately out of his car.

  4. 17' Good pace from Massa, whose 1:15.693 is the best of the day. Impressive form from Ferrari having looked out of touch with McLaren and Lewis Hamilton yesterday.

  5. 22' Kovalainen has improved to 1:15.858, and Hamilton goes second a shade under two tenths back.

  6. 30' Weather watch. The sun has gone in, but it remains warm. The stands are fairly empty, with most of the fans presumably wondering where Schumi is.

  7. 32' Second fastest Felipe Massa 1:16.096, and he the runs wide, kicking up all kinds of dust.

  8. 38' Kimi Raikkonen impresses with his first hot lap. He clocks 1:16.219, then goes better with 1:16.032. He is four tenths of a second ahead of Sebastian Vettel.

  9. 44' No big guns on the board just yet, which gives Sebastien Vettel a brief moment in the sun with his 1:17.242. Jenson Button second. The Brit has had a dismal season but is hoping to reach Q3 today.

  10. 48' That's the first proper lap of the day from Jarno Trulli, who clocks 1:17.784.

  11. 55' Not much movement out on the track. It is a nice day in south-west Germany. Already 22 degrees with a refreshing breeze sweeping across the track.

  12. - Welcome to LIVE coverage of the final free practice session from Hockenheim ahead of qualifying this lunchtime.
