Webber then tops this first practice session with 1:33.082.
He is followed by Button, Massa, Trulli, Fisichella and Raikkonen.
0' Kazuki Nakajima goes ninth from 11th in the Williams... and Barrichello gets his house in some kind of order, 12th with his final timed lap of 1:34.227.
2' Vettel back out for a quick go while Barrichello repeatedly messes up what promise to be quick laps.
5' Massa with 1:33.745 for third.
6' And the home favourite climbs into his RB5 for a last runout.
8' Vettel's car being worked on. He may be able to come back out, if they're quick.
10' Brawn GP's Barrichello will be worried to see his name bottom of the lists with 10 minutes left - especially as Button is second.
14' Trulli third, Fisichella fifth, Vettel sixth, Massa seventh and Alonso eighth. Hamilton 11th.
17' Better from Raikkon, fourth quickest now. Sutil was sidelined after turn one by a hydraulics issue.
21' Raikkonen struggling in 18th, while Massa is faring better in sixth.
23' Webber improves to 1:33.082.
25' Hamilton seventh with 1:34.483. Apparently the new double diffuser is looking good. And his British compatriot Button is second.
29' Hamilton thinks drivers should be allowed to celebrate with the fans after races. Not sure when he will next be able to take advantage of any prospective rule change... Hamilton: Let drivers celebrate on track
31' Vettel's session is definitely over as he returns to his team. Apparently it was an electrical problem. His team-mate, Aussie Webber, is still top.
32' There was not anything wrong with Hamilton's MP4-24 - they were just tinkering with the rear suspension.
34' Vettel is wheeled through a gap in the barriers and away from the track, the same area where Sutil's Force India is parked.
35'
Webber first with 1:33.327... and Vettel loses power at the same place as Sutil!!
36' Vettel second in the timesheets, Alonso third, Rosberg fourth. And Massa now goes P2. Button eighth after setting his first lap-time, with Hamilton the only driver yet to lay one down.
40'
Sutil parks up on to the side of the track. He lost power on a corner, seemingly thanks to a gearbox issue. He had just set the third-fastest lap.
41' Rosberg second, Hamilton back in the pits.
45'
Webber fastest now on a 1:34.444 for Red Bull. Can they replicate that success from Silverstone? Vettel leads Red Bull one-two
47' Kimi Raikkonen makes use of the KERS on his Ferrari to go third fastest.
50' Trulli in the mid-1:36s now. Most drivers out and laying down times - and rubber on the track.
51' Will there even be a Formula One next season? We should do - but who knows? FOTA confirm deal nearly in place
53'
Rosberg takes P1 for a moment before Trulli betters it to sub-1:38.
54'
Trulli quickest now on a 1:39.727. Rosberg and Kovalainen also setting lap-times.
57' The rain has stopped but the clouds remain. Jarno Trulli, Nico Rosberg and Bourdais all on track, while Hamilton has been out for a first run.
60' Sebastiens Bourdais and Buemi came back out briefly but opted not to set a timed lap before returning.
65'
Red Bull principal Christian Horner: "We're trying to take the fight to Brawn. We had a great run at Silverstone; here we have similar conditions, it may be even cooler than Silverstone. There's supposed to be a low chance of rain, but this place has its own micro-climate as the altitude is quite high. It's Sebastian's home race, and there is a lot of home support for him: all those Schumacher fans seem to be turning into Vettel fans. And Mark for me is the dark horse: he is always blisteringly quick round here."
69' The rain is falling and the winds are strong. With Fisichella still top with 1:40.674 and Buemi the only other driver to set a time, everyone is back in.
71' What went wrong for Jenson in Britain? Whatever it was, you can be sure that Button promises to bounce back.
74' Buemi with a 1:43 to start, bettered soon after by a 1:40 from Giancarlo Fisichella.
76'
Toro Rosso's Buemi will start us off in terms of lap-times, it seems. There are dark clouds coming, and rain is expected at some point.
79' Fernando Alonso and Rubens Barrichello emerge, leaving Timo Glock and Hamilton as the only cars not to leave the garages.
82' One man who is yet to go out is Lewis Hamilton. His McLaren is on its stands, being worked on while he waits patiently in the background.
85' Vettel and Adrian Sutil are back out on track after completing their installation laps with the others and nipping back in.
87' The air temperature is 11 degrees, chilly, while the track temp is 15. Eighty per cent humidity.
88' Sebastian Vettel, competing at his home race and sporting a new helmet livery, ready to go out early.
90'
This opening hour-and-a-half-long session of the weekend at the Nurburgring is underway.

Comment 12 - 31 of 31
sorri Eurosport, but Gerhard Berger memorably won the 1997 German GP not Villenueve,
Ah, there's Robert. 1.612 seconds back but with 23 laps in. Thought for a while things looked bleaker than usual for BMW. I wonder if Webber read my "might still be gimpy" post? Good to be proven wrong now and again. :)
Burt is showing us all his extensive use of the English language again. What a bitter little LOSER he sounds.
What happened to Robert Kubica? Did he even make it onto the track?
Eurosport are a bit slow today with the updated info, it seems to be mixed info.
How old are you BURT,like 6 or something
GROW UP!!
It seems Webber is doing well in practice and Kimi is in second place pushing Button into third. But that is just practice for now, it will be a different story during the qualifying tomorrow. Massa is in 17th place right now....not doing well at the moment!
