Live Commentary

  1. - Join us at 13:00 UK time for German GP qualifying. It should be an intriguing hour at the Nurburgring.

  2. - So Lewis Hamilton is fastest again, for the second time this weekend. He will be in good spirits going into qualifying.

  3. 0' The chequered flag comes out as Fernando Alonso spins through turn four - no damage done to his car.

  4. 1' Fernando Alosno goes second for Renault. He typically qualifies with a very low fuel load - let's see if the Spaniard is running a similar tactic today.

  5. 5' Not much movement. The teams keeping their soft tyres fresh for qualifying.

  6. 7' 1:31.6 for Kimi Raikkonen - second place.

  7. 10' Some of the teams may want to put on super-soft tyres to work out their strategy ahead of qualifying.

  8. 12' Click the link to see our German GP photo gallery. Photos from the Nurburgring

  9. 15' How they stand with 15 minutes to go: 1-Hamilton, 2-Rosberg, 3-Webber, 4-Fisichella, 5-Massa, 6-Sutil, 7-Glock, 8-Button.

  10. 16' Jenson Button comes into the pits, saying over his radio that his grip has been lessened by having a car in front of him.

  11. 19' Nico Rosberg goes to second place on the timesheet. The Williams man is looking to impress on home tarmac this weekend.

  12. 22' Rubens Barrichello is really struggling. He is in last place and clearly his Brawn still has problems.

  13. 26' Kimi Raikkonen... seventh place for the Ferrari man. He then runs wide. As does Nelson Piquet.

  14. 29' Heikki Kovalainen is well behind his McLaren team-mate Hamilton. The Finn is really struggling at the moment.

  15. 33' Lewis Hamilton goes to the top of the pile with a 1:31.965. He continues to perform well. How much is low fuel, and how much is genuine pace thanks to this new diffuser.

  16. 38' Good morning Jenson Button. He goes to the top of the timesheets with 1:33.421. Much has been made of Brawn's potential difficulties this weekend but they will expect to be on the podium at the very least.

  17. 42' Adrian Sutil is the fastest man on the track. Not often you get to say that. 1:33.974 for the Force India man.

  18. 45' Felipe Massa is on a timed lap... it looks fairly slippy out there. 1:35.232 his time - about three seconds off the pace from yesterday.

  19. 48' It is pretty cloudy at the moment - forbidding skies. And we are looking at an empty track. Rubens Barrichello's Brawn has had some work done to its engine and is yet to see the light of day this morning.

  20. 50' The weather is set to play a crucial role this weekend, and the forecast is for overcast, cool conditions but no rain. That should play into Red Bull's hands, as Brawn prefer to operate at higher temperature. It should be 17C in qualifying, with 21C expected for the race tomorrow.

  21. 55' A slow start to this session. The smattering of cars come back into the pits after installation laps, and there is currently nobody on track.

  22. 60' Final free practice is under way ahead of qualifying for the German GP! The light goes green and a handful of cars emerge straight on to the track.
