Live Commentary

  1. 0' And there it is! Hamilton wins the third practice session from Massa, Glock, Kovalainen and Piquet, and he's looking in great shape ahead of qualifying this afternoon. We'll have live comments again from 13:00 BST, so be sure to join us then.

  2. 2' Rosberg records a time of 1:21.195, and that moves him ahead of Nakajima into 10th. One minute remains!

  3. 4' Nakajima crosses in 1:21.357, leaving him 10th. Hamilton, Massa, Glock, Kovalainen, Piquet is the top five as it stands.

  4. 5' Massa is out there now, his intermediate times put him marginally behind Hamilton and he crosses in 1:20.567, which is good enough for second.

  5. 6' But here's Hamilton! He crosses the line in 1:20.228 and resumes the lead! Great stuff from the McLaren man. He has so much confidence in his car at the moment.

  6. 7' Glock shares his name with a popular handgun, and a time of 1:20.623 fires him into the lead with just six minutes remaining!

  7. 8' Barrichello comes home in 1:22.004, and that leaves the Brazilian way down in 15th.

  8. 9' Jenson Button is out there now in the Honda. A time of 1:21.772 leaves him back in 12th.

  9. 10' Piquet speeds across the line in 1:20.917, taking him back up to second. No sign of Hamilton at the moment.

  10. 13' Raikkonen clocks 1:21.187, which is only good enough for sixth. Alonso comes home in 1:21.611, moving him up to 10th, but it's not been a great morning for the Spaniard.

  11. 15' 1:21.179 from Bourdais puts him fourth.

  12. 16' A time of 1:21.533 from Rosberg moves him up to fifth. Piquet looks like he's getting ready to go out again.

  13. 18' Kovalainen comes home in 1:21.014, and that moves him up to second, leaving his McLaren team-mate Hamilton in third. Hamilton's sitting in his car in the garage at the moment, looking at a piece of paper.

  14. 19' Massa crosses the line in 1:20.796, and that's good enough to put him in the lead! What now for Hamilton?

  15. 20' Renault's Nelson Piquet is out on the track now, looking to build on his superb second-placed finish at the German Grand Prix, and a time of 1:21.476 is good enough for second. 20 minutes left.

  16. 24' What can Alonso do? 1:22.996 is the answer, leaving him down in 11th.

  17. 25' Toyota's Timo Glock clocks 1:21.849, which takes him up to fifth for the time being.

  18. 27' It's another warm, sunny day here in Budapest, although there are grey skies overhead. Grid position will be all-important for the race tomorrow, because there's precious little room to over-take at the Hungaroring.

  19. 28' 1:21.996 for Williams's Nico Rosberg, which is good enough for sixth at the moment.

  20. 30' Half an hour remains, and Hamilton leads from Kovalainen and Massa at the moment. The Brit then posts a markedly slower lap. He's looking for the fast parts of the track again, a tactic that served him well in the previous two grands prix.

  21. 32' Sutil comes flying off the track after over-cooking a right-hand corner, but he pulls it together and manages to continue.

  22. 33' Heikki Kovalainen records a time of 1:21.654 to go second, before his McLaren team-mate Hamilton comes round again and improves his time to 1:21.098.

  23. 35' Felipe Massa comes home in 1:21.679 in the Ferrari, nudging him into first, but then Hamilton completes his first lap in 1:21.410 to put him ahead of the Brazilian.

  24. 40' 1:22.391 is the time for Kazuki Nakajima in the Williams, putting him third in this morning's session for the time being.

  25. 43' Frenchman Sebastien Bourdais has a momentary wiggle in the Toro Rosso but after going wide he manages to wrestle the car back onto the track.

  26. 44' Vettel records a 1:22.610 lap, which puts him first ahead of Sutil for the time being, but then Kimi Raikkonen comes home in 1:22.032 in the Ferrari to usurp the German.

  27. 47' Hamilton was just having a quick run out, and he's back in the garage now, chin-wagging with the grease monkeys. Adrian Sutil in the Force India and his team-mate Giancarlo Fisichella go out together, while Renault's Fernando Alonso joins them for a spin.

  28. 56' And here's our Lewis, out early. He was fourth in the first practice session yesterday but improved to record the fastest lap in his second outing.

  29. 60' Off we go! 60 minutes of practice begins. Sebastian Vettel is out first in the Toro Rosso. He endured a frustrating day yesterday, being stopped in each session by a hydraulic problem and finishing bottom of the timesheets twice.

  30. 09:55 Morning speed fans, and welcome to eurosport.yahoo.com's LIVE coverage of the third free practice session at the Hungarian Grand Prix. Championship leader Lewis Hamilton was quickest around the Hungaroring yesterday in a time of 1:20.554. Can he repeat the trick today? The session begins at 10:00 BST, but we're not expecting anyone on the track for a while.
