Live Commentary

  1. 0' Button 13th and Massa 18th, with only the Toro Rosso drivers slower.

  2. 0' And when all laps have been completed following the chequered flag, it is Hamilton followed by Kovalainen to complete a McLaren one-two.

  3. 0' Rosberg loses time in the final sector and cannot improve from third...

  4. 2' And Lewis goes P1 at the last!! 1:22.079 the time!!

  5. 3' Hamilton looking to set a quick time but finds traffic...

  6. 3' We have almost all cars on the track for a final flurry.

  7. 6' A hydraulics problem was bothering Vettel.

  8. 8' Alguersuari now bottom but it has been a productive run-out again for the Toro Rosso kid. Good on him. His team-mate Buemi runs wide again.

  9. 9' Trulli back out and now sixth after a quick lap!! That is what the Italian needed.

  10. 12' Button also suffering issues with his car. Both drivers are concerned about their front wings.

  11. 13' Massa on softs now but still struggling. Raikkonen improves one place to 10th.

  12. 15' Still Heikki's time holds firm at the head of the list. Another mini-victory would boost his confidence after stuggling this season.

  13. 17' Vettel, 12th and in the garage, ready to re-emerge. Button is eighth and Hamilton ninth.

  14. 18' If you want build-up for the Hungarian GP: More F1 news

  15. 19' And Rosberg is now second in the Williams... another good showing from him.

  16. 20' Nakajima is fourth and Barrichello a much-improved fifth.

  17. 25' Trulli's problem was electrical.

  18. 26' Eurosport's inside look at the Williams F1 team continues with episode four of season two. Video: The Factory homepage

  19. 27' So what does Spanish teenager Alguersuari have to say? Video: Alguersuari excited ahead of debut

  20. 28' And Trulli looking more and more likely to finish bottom (where he is right now).

  21. 29' Hamilton goes seventh as Glock improves - not enough to move back ahead of Webber.

  22. 30' Alonso goes 10th on the soft tyres, while Heidfeld - 19th on the same - pits.

  23. 32' Massa comes in after another little holiday away from the tarmac.

  24. 34' Webber second for Red Bull, 0.243s slower than Kovalainen.

  25. 37' And Kubica fifth.

  26. 38' Nakajima goes ninth.

  27. 39' Trulli looks distinctly fed up as he trudges to the garage. His TF109 has packed up like an old Ford Cortina.

  28. 41' The temperatures are high - and there are contrasting fortunes for the Brawns at present, third and 16th for Button and Barrichello respectively.

  29. 44' Barrichello spins off but gets going again soon enough, negating the need for a yellow flag. Trulli has a problem and is coasting round, being passed by every car.

  30. 46' Massa losing his Ferrari F60 again but just keeping it next to the track.

  31. 47' Robert Kubica not happy with the tweaks to his BMW. Tenth at present, he wants to get among the points after a rubbish season to date. Drivers' standings

  32. 48' Glock is out on track and second now. Webber, who took his first GP win in Germany, is fourth.

  33. 49' Sebastien Buemi locks up at the chicane. He is two spots ahead of team-mate Alguersuari, only 19.

  34. 50' What about Toro Rosso's new driver Jaime Alguersuari? He's 17th and looking relaxed as he relays details to the team.

  35. 51' Toyota boys Jarno Trulli and Timo Glock in the last two spots.

  36. 53' Cheers Nick (comments below): our office in Madrid did a good job of delaying our coverage, sorry again!!

  37. 55' Speaking of Button, the British World Championship leader is second behind Kova. Webber third and Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen fourth.

  38. 55' And finally, ged: "Let's face it... Day one is all about getting the cars set up right for the qualifying time.. Don't write of the Brawns just yet... and come race day, let's see if they can get the stop strategy right this time. Crossed fingers here... C'mon Brawn !!"

  39. 56' Ray C; "I reckon Jenson will have his work cut out as the 'rest' are catching up pretty quickly now. This is going to be one of the most surprising 'final day' deciders ever in F1 and can only be good for the sport."

  40. 57' Dave thinks Brawn will come good and has high hopes for Hamilton... and Tom M says Lewis will be on the podium.

  41. 58' Gazman reckons: "With so little overtaking oppotunites the Hungarian GP is one of the most boring races in the calendar and if any GP should be scrapped from the schedule it should be this one."

  42. 59' wujum says: "Hungaroring has much history. However, it looks like it's gonna be a battle of pitstop strategies again since except for the first corner of the first lap, overtaking will be quite a challenge for the boys."

  43. 60' Massa again runs wide while Kova also causes sparks to literally fly as he goes over the kerb.

  44. 64' Kovalainen on the super-softs leads the way again with 1:22.126.

  47. 69' His Williams team-mate Nakajima on the harder tyres, like most drivers. Giancarlo Fisichella is on softs and takes fourth for now.

  48. 73' Nico Rosberg on the softs goes P1 with 1:23.116.

  49. 75' Kova takes top spot with 1:23.396. The upgrades are doing him the world of good: Kovalainen leads Hungary practice

  50. 77' Piquet's 1:23.414 still fastest ahead of Seb Vettel of Red Bull, Nakajima, Fernando Alonso (Renault) and Heidfeld.

  51. 78' Lewis Hamilton off at turn 13... these harder tyres proving a problem.

  52. 80' Felipe Massa's problems with grip continue despite the increased track temp. He runs off at turn nine.

  53. 84' Nick Heidfeld and Kazuki Nakajima second and third.

  54. 86' Nelson Piquet Jr with P1 at present as he fights for his F1 future. Several drivers already out and looking for an early benchmark.

  55. 88' Nick Heidfeld the first driver to start a timed lap.

I am tired of Rosberg being called a Kraut - he is FINNISH and the son of an ex FINNISH world chapion. If this is the case then call Hamilton Swiss and be done with the British bullshyt
