Join us for LIVE commentary on third practice at Sepang from 07:00 on Saturday morning, plus qualifying from 10:00!!
- So there you go. All is not well at the Woking marque.

McLaren have just made a statement: This morning, Dave Ryan was suspended from his position as sporting director of the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team. Team principal Martin Whitmarsh said: "In my 20-odd years working for McLaren, I doubt if I've met a more dedicated individual than Davey. He's been an integral part of McLaren since 1974 and has played a crucial role in the team's many World Championship successes since that time. However, his role in the events of last Sunday, particularly his dealings with the FIA stewards, has caused serious repercussions for the team, for which we apologise. Therefore, I suspended him this morning and he has accepted this."

So Raikkonen tops a Ferrari one-two in free practice 2 from Vettel, with Rosberg, Webber, Barrichello, Button, Nakajima, Kovalainen, Piquet, Hamilton, Trulli, Seb Buemi, Glock, Fernando Alonso - where has he been all afternoon? - Sutil, Kubica, Bourdais, Fisichella and Hedifeld following.
0' Hamilton 11th with his final lap.
0' Rosberg goes fourth between the Red Bulls of Vettel and Webber.
1' It doesn't come to anything for Lewis. Vettel shoots past Heidfeld on the inside; the German ain't happy!!
2' Bourdais, who stands at 18, wheeled into the garage. Hamilton fastest of anyone in the first sector...
3' So going into the final moments the order reads: Raikkonen, Massa, Vettel, Webber, Rosberg, Barrichello, Button, Nakajima, Piquet, Kovalainen, Trulli, Hamilton.
5' And Nakajima's cooling cover on his rear-left tyre also takes flight!! Exactly the same issue that affected Rosberg.
5'
Nakajima eighth now... Rosberg going around quickly but loses a wheel cover, which flies across the tarmac like some kind of lethal frisbee!!
7' Are we going to get a flurry of late changes in the top few? Potentially - but they look pretty settled at the moment... some last-minute changes to certain cars being made.
9' So it looks as though we are not going to get any rain after all that; it has been an active session for everyone, as they were all out on track early in case the action was stopped by the weather.
12' No change in the top four but Button is now sixth behind Barrichello, with Hamilton 10th.
15' Raikkonen lays down a 1:35.707 in top spot. Good pace from the Ferrari, and over half-a-second quicker than the best time in FP1.
17' Massa in the pits to talk things through; Kubica has improved but only to 17th. Hamilton 14th, Button ninth.
21' The Red Bulls third and fourth with Barrichello fifth.
23'
Fisichella flies off at turn 10 and cannot turn away from the wall, striking it sideways and making a mess of his Force India.
25' Raikkonen slips in behind Massa as Ferrari show their muscle: check out our team and driver profiles.
28' Massa pulls it out to go top and improves with a 1:36 dead. Barrichello goes fourth then third.
30' Hamilton falls to 18th, the next-slowest driver. Practice specialist Rosberg just ahead of him.
32' Pole Kubica over two seconds off the pace as he lays down another woeful effort. There is holding back true pace; and then there is just being rubbish. The BMW not impressing this afternoon in Malaysia, while 13th and 18th in FP1 was also poor by their championship-fighting standards.
34' The BMW Saubers of Robert Kubica and Nick Heidfeld occupying the final two positions. If you have either in your Fantasy Grand Prix team, get rid of them here.
37'
Driving prodigy Vettel, the youngest race winner, leading the way in the sexy Red Bull.
40' Raikkonen behind pace-setter Nakajima in the lists. His Ferrari team-mate Brazilian Massa is 10th at present.
42'
Vettel goes off at turn six; a few minutes ago one of the McLaren drivers also left the track. Bourdais again drifts off too.
45'
Never is weather more dramatic than at a race meeting; in cricket the arrival of rain ends play like a wet fart, but in F1 it causes all sorts of mayhem! Witness the final race of last season; when is it going to reach the circuit?
49'
Nakajima takes over for Williams, his 1:36.334 less than a tenth behind his team-mate's best in the opening session.
50' Raikkonen P1 on a 1:36.523 ahead of Button and Nakajima. A nice mix of teams at the top for now - quite often they seem to be in little groups so far this season, as seen on the FP1 timesheets.
53'
Barrichello improves from 16th to 13th. Hamilton's team let him know that rain is coming - how many times are we going to hear that? - and the clouds on one side of the track are looking very dark indeed...
55'
Seb Bourdais takes his Toro Rosso for a trip to the kitty litter after turn nine, but manages to steer clear of the wall.
57'
McLaren sporting director Dave Ryan is nowhere to be seen and the word on the street is that he has been ousted as a result of the circumstances which saw Hamilton demoted from the Melbourne podium yesterday. Read all about it!!
60' Button taking lumps off his P1 time as he flies round this Sepang circuit again. His 1:36.614 is getting towards the first practice pace-setting time.
63'
Jenson suddenly posts a quick one after some work on the Brawn car and moves all the way up to P1. Nakajima second.
65' Hamilton ninth and fellow Briton Button, victor in Australia, 14th ahead of team-mate Barrichello. Re-live the Australian GP by clicking here.
67' The rain is coming!! The wind has picked up; temperatures are now 41 and 32 degrees respectively for track and air, while humidity has increased to 59 per cent.
68'
Mark Webber goes fastest in a sub-1:37, with Trulli now behind Sutil and Fisichella and Kovalainen.
71' Jarno Trulli fastest in 1:37.185, while Piquet has gone fourth quickest behind the McLaren men. And Sutil now goes P2.
72'
Heikki Kovalainen gives McLaren the top two spots with a lap of 1:37.640.
73' You can see the results from first practice here.
75' The rain is holding off as Glock sneaks in between Hamilton and Raikkonen. Following the Flying Finn is Rosberg, Button, Sebastian Vettel, Nakajima, Giancarlo Fisichella and Mark Webber.
78'
Hamilton still working on set-up, with his team telling him over the radio that they can 'afford more front wing'. He is now in P1 on a 1:37.950.
79'
Timo Glock is the first to spin, half-turning his Toyota on a right-hander. There is no one behind him and he rights it and continues on his merry way.
80'
Raikkonen leading the sheets with a sub-1:38 as big raindrops begin to fall... the teams are desperate to get some work done before the session is potentially stopped.
83' Adrian Sutil takes over and is swiftly deposed by Mark Webber, Giancarlo Fisichella and Kazuki Nakajima, who is now in P1.
85' Felipe Massa on top in the opening minutes. The clouds are dramatic-looking, tall and dark.
90'
The hour-and-a-half-long session underway with most of the drivers immediately out on track: there is rain on the way. The starting track temperature is 45 degrees, with a 33-degree air temp and 51 per cent humidity.
- The quickest time was 1:36.260, set on the final lap, while his team-mate Kazuki Nakajima was second in the timesheets. Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello of Brawn followed with the Ferrari duo of Felipe Massa and Kimi Raikkonen fifth and sixth ahead of Lewis Hamilton. Nelson Piquet Jr entered the gravel in the last moments of FP1.
-
Williams driver Nico Rosberg topped free practice 1 for the weekend Malaysian Grand Prix - remember he was fastest in each of the three practice sessions for the season-opening race in Australia.

Comment 1 - 19 of 19
i tip massa for the pole hes usually a specialist round here oh yeah and i couldnt believe my ears when the commentators were not going lewis this lewis that omg what a relief
martin.mitevski26- Your dreaming son! The diffusers won't be deemed illegal!!
Yeah Comment 7, Vettel is looking like the deal. McLaren needs to get LH a car that can do the business pretty fast or else...
F-1 is about the performance of a car and a driver.
If points are to be adjudicated on a code of conduct and comminucations, then all teams should submit recordings of all their conversations before places can be confirmed. The race stewarts as a matter of procedure monitor all team-Driver conversations, so to disqualify the MacLaren team for not handing over copies is disingenious. This new system of the FIA to change race results is open to abuse. It also means that race places and points can be changed at any time, 1 hour after the race or even next year, because time is not of the essence unless it is explicitly made to be so. The FIA had at it's disposal the conversations of Hamilton and the Team. All conversations are recorded by the stewards. Even a third class lawyer in Timbuktu can argue this case and win. McLaren shold not accept this ruling. Stone.
It`s great to see that button has a good car a last and the difference is there for all to see give him a competative car and he will deliver keep it up Jenson
Bring Back Michael!!
Don't you mean "When Ferrari re-writes the rule book" because they did not think of it. Anything that goes against ferrari get dismissed or changed to benifit them. They messed up at the weekend and LOOK everyone gets docked points, booted or put in the dock because they got something they ferrari don't have, or someone gets points and they get non. F1 is just a big farse, I'm suprised anyone follows this charade anymore.
My brain hurts!
Don't you mean "McLaren is back in the pack" ?
huhu...kimi! :)
gooooo lewis & hekki mclaren is backk,
BMW are struggling which is a surprise. I hope Kimi gets a good result this time. Even if he doesn't when the diffusers will be declared as illegal and the Brawn, Williams and Toyota drivers and constructor points are taken away Ferrari will be the best again
Vettel will be this years surprise in F1
They can't hear you!
Looking at the mix of cars and the times, KERS and diffusers don't make any difference other than a very exciting race to look forward to.
common massa and vettel
come on button+hamilton
WHILE ignition & brake applicable for MCLAREN,not on speed.
KERS tech applicable toward BMW but enough for MCLAREN
