Join us tomorrow from 13:00 UK time for the race itself. In the meantine we'll have the report and all the reaction for you to gorge yourself on. Bye!!
- The top spots from pole to 10th: 1. Button 2. Raikkonen 3. Barrichello 4. Vettel 5. Massa 6. Rosberg 7. Kovalainen 8. Webber 9. Alonso 10. Nakajima
-
So Button is on pole again - and who would bet against him winning here in Monaco for a first time?
0'
Button sneaks it with 1:14.902... Barrichello third with 1:15.077... and Vettel takes fourth with 1:15.271!!
0' Raikkonen takes provisional pole!! Button and his team-mate Barrichello are still to come through though... as is Vettel...
1' Rosberg cannot see the hot lap through... Button going well and Massa takes third at the moment...
2' Rosberg going around quickly as Raikkonen takes second on a 1:15.422.
3' Raikkonen improves one place to seventh with 1:16.278. Massa three seconds off the pace after two sectors.
4' Webber ninth ahead of Nakajima.
5' Positions five to 10 at present: Massa, Kovalainen, Alonso, Raikkonen, Nakajima and Webber.
6' Massa second but here comes Barrichello... second for the Brazilian. And Vettel through for provisional pole with 1:15.395... Button fourth.
7' Rosberg very quick with a 1:15.602, excellent stuff for the Williams man.
8'
Vettel quickest on a 1:16.206 - with race fuel, of course.
9' Sebastian Vettel also out quick for the first of a pair of runs Red Bull have planned for him to do.
Q3 The top-10 shootout underway. Button straight out of the garage.
- And as for Hamilton: "I just don't know what I was thinking. I made a mistake. We had been going well all weekend and I apologise to the team for wasting their time. At least Heikki is doing well. It's just been tough - and it's unfortunate that it happened in the first part of qualifying."
- Toyota man Trulli is not happy: "We didn't have the pace unfortunately. But we would have gone through to Q2 had I not been blocked by a Renault on the last two corners... yes, we are taking it to the stewards."
- The five to drop out, who will start from 11th to 15th on the grid respectively: Buemi, Piquet, Fisichella, Bourdais and Sutil.
0' Buemi, who has a couple of pops at it but could only climb above Piquet and not out of the bottom five, will not make it through. Button is okay.
0' Raikkonen top with 1:14.514 and Button is not yet safe with the drivers behind him - Vettel, Massa, Alonso and Nakajima - to come...
1' Button sixth after a half-decent lap which puts Nakajima 10th and in a precarious position...
2' Kovalainen, Webber and Rosberg are in the pits and have been for some time, readying themselves for Q3... Fisichella cannot improve from 15th...
3' Jenson still hovering only one place from the drop zone and struggling at the moment... Piquet yet to reach Q3 this year.
4' Kova still top from Webber, Barrichello, Rosberg, Vettel, Massa, Alonso, Raikkonen, Nakajima and Button.
5' The two times set by Fisichella have been annulled for cutting the chicane: he is therefore bottom and must do something quickly in the Force India to save his session...
6' Bourdais, Sutil, Fisichella, Buemi and Piquet are the drivers currently in the bottom five - from 15th to 10th respectively.
7' Eurosport blogger Piquet gets the Renault R29 running again. He is looking at elimination from Q2 unless he can pull out a fast lap. There is still plenty of time though.
8'
Kovalainen in P1 with 1:14.809... and Piquet spins out after tapping the barrier at the exit of Swimming Pool!! No damage done - but he is blocking the track.
9'
Webber of Red Bull leads the way with 1:14.809.
10' Webber now quickest with Barrichello second - 1:14.825 the best time.
11' Rosberg fastest in 1:14.846.
12' All 15 drivers looking for that quick lap that could see them through.
13' This will be a tense battle for a place in the top-10 shoot-out. Who would have thought the BMWs and Toyotas would all be eliminated first - and also Hamilton?
14' There is a good deal of rubber laid down on this track surface now, so the super-softs will be as effective as they were at the end of FP3. Felipe Massa out immediately.
Q2 Off we go in the 15-minute-long second segment.
- The five drivers to drop out, who will start from 16th to 20th respectively: Hamilton (pushed out at the final moment by Buemi), Heidfeld, Kubica, Trulli and Glock.
0'
And after the clock hits 0:00, BMW driver Kubica can only do a 1:16.405 for 17th to end his qually stint this afternoon. Nico Rosberg with a 1:15.094 to top the segment - not that it matters.
1' Time running out but Alonso manages to find the quick lap he needed.
2' Fernando Alonso, who topped final practice, in the drop zone... Fisichella up to 11th.
3' Hamilton still seventh. Massa jumps into fourth.
4' Raikkonen splits the Brawns with a lap-time of 1:15.794, which puts him second.
5' Lewis looks furious and dejected by turns - he really thought this was where his season was going to turn around.
6' Heidfeld, Bourdais, Fisichella, Kubica and Buemi are in the bottom five.
7' We have started again, but obviously anyone on a hot lap can hardly continue it now!!
8'
Hamilton is seventh with just over eight minutes remaining - if he is not shunted into the bottom five he will start from 15th as his qualifying is over.
8'
The red flags are out and Hamilton is out of the car - he cannot get it back to the pits.
8'
HAMILTON SMASHES HIS MCLAREN!! He lost it down the hill and damaged the rear wing!!
9' The bottom five at present - who will drop out if they don't improve, although I'm sure they will - are Timo Glock, Nick Heidfeld, Sebastien Bourdais, Fisichella and Kubica.
10'
Button fastest in 1:15.817...
11' Button's team-mate Rubens Barrichello second and Williams man Kazuki Nakajima third.
12' Vettel's best time of 1:16.045 is too good for Jenson Button as the Brawn GP man and World Championship leader hurtles through for second.
13'
Heikki Kovalainen of McLaren goes top briefly but close behind is Sebastian Vettel, who snatches it away immediately.
14'
Sebastien Buemi in P1 on a 1:17.225... but don't expect the Toro Rosso driver to stay there.
15' And Fisichella goes back to the top with 1:17.901.
16' That is improved upon by Sebastien Bourdais, Jarno Trulli and Robert Kubica. The latter two enjoying a rare moment in the top three this weekend.
17'
Giancarlo Fisichella top with 1:19.473.
18'
We have a smashed Ferrari!! Felipe Massa lost it coming into the Swimming Pool - not leaving it, as is often the case - and took the end off his nosecone.
19' There are 20 minutes of this opening session. The drivers slipping out of the garages one by one.
Q1 Here we go in the opening segment of qualifying for this Monaco Grand Prix.
