  4. 14:30 Button is able to sneak up to sixth ahead of Vettel just before the end.

  5. 14:29 And Rosberg has ended up in the grass too - and the yellow flag comes out for a minute or so which could end the quick times.

  6. 14:28 Lewis Hamilton and Timo Glock both run a little wide in separate incidents but they avoid any accidents.

  7. 14:27 We also have a Ferrari in the top 10 - Raikkonen up to ninth.

  8. 14:27 Just a couple of minutes to go now - and Alonso has just overtaken Barrichello to go third.

  9. 14:25 Rosberg has improved again on the best lap time - he has just produced an effort of 1:21.588.

  10. 14:24 Hamilton has just produced his best time of the session but it is only good enough for 12th.

  11. 14:21 Button has managed to go above Piquet but no more for the moment. He lies seventh behind the Red Bull's of Webber and Vettel.

  12. 14:17 Bottom of the time sheets now are the Toyotas who seem to be off the pace this afternoon - Hamilton also in poor shape in only 15th.

  13. 14:15 Barrichello back up to third ahead of Alonso - Button still only eight but he might look to change that soon.

  14. 14:13 Oh dear - Piquet has had another spin - you have to feel for the boy everybody is already talking about who is going to replace him.

  15. 14:11 Buemi loses control for a moment but he gets back on track just in time.

  16. 14:10 Nico Rosberg has just gone fastest with a time of 1:21.731. Boy does this chap know how to practice - if only he could do it when it mattered. Williams 1-2.

  17. 14:09 Sebastien Buemi is finally out to clock a time. He is 14th after a couple of flying laps.

  18. 14:05 After a spell in the pits - Fernando Alonso has come out flying. He has just put in the third best lap of the session. That will get the home fans going.

  19. 14:02 Barrichello has a little bit of a lock up but no harm done - he remains second quickest.

  20. 14:00 Into the last half hour now - it will be interesting to see if any of the teams have tricks up their sleeves.

  21. 13:56 Button has also just overtaken Roseberg to go from eighth to seventh.

  22. 13:55 Giancarlo Fisichella up to fifth in his Force India. Good stuff from the Italian.

  23. 13:53 We have just seen a shot of Sebastien Buemi pacing around the Toro Rosso garage as his team continue to work on his car. You can tell he is eager to get out there.

  24. 13:50 Oh dear - Piquet spins off and has to then return to the pits. Flavio Briatore is shown on the TV screens shaking his head.

  25. 13:48 Kimi Raikkonen has moved up to 10th. It sums up the sorry state that Ferrari are in that that can be actually considered good news.

  26. 13:45 Piquet has dropped a bit but is still doing well in fifth. Poor boy - maybe all he needs is a hug!

  27. 13:43 Heidfeld has a spell in the gravel - he has only produced the 16th best lap. He must still be getting used to that new BMW.

  28. 13:42 Massa has just been on the drivers radio saying that his KERS is not working.

  29. 13:41 Nakajima is getting even faster out there now - he has just produced a lap of 1:24.198

  30. 13:39 Kazuki Nakajima of Williams has cracked 1:22 - a lap of 1:21.805 puts him back atop the timesheets.

  31. 13:36 Hamilton has just posted a time that is good enough for ninth.

  32. 13:35 Vettel's team-mate Webber is fourth. The Australian is on hard tyres with Vettel going for the softer option.

  33. 13:33 Fastest lap has just been posted by Vettell - a 1:22.400 effort in his Red Bull.

  34. 13:30 Kovalainen who had gearbox problems this morning finally comes out - Buemi and Sutil have not posted times this afternoon due to problems with their cars.

  35. 13:28 The Ferraris still at the bottom of the pile - they have made some changes to the car but they still seem off the pace.

  36. 13:25 If you are wondering how Lewis Hamilton well he is 12th. He was 14th this morning so work for the McLaren team to do.

  37. 13:24 Timo Glock locks up and goes wide on one corner but no serious damage done.

  38. 13:23 And we have another new name at the top of the time sheets -Kazuki Nakajima of Williams with a lap of 1:22.551.

  39. 13:20 Piquet goes fastest again on 1:22.740 - he is running his car light to help get up his confidence up and he will be buzzing now.

  40. 13:19 Not good so far from Ferrari again: Massa 15th and Raikkonen 16th.

  41. 13:17 BUTTON DOES GO FASTEST - 1:23.057 so we have a Brawn 1-2 at the moment.

  42. 13:16 Button shows his face and instantly goes third fastest - he may go even better here now...

  43. 13:14 Vettel - who had a little spell in the gravel in FP1 gone second fastest.

  44. 13:11 Very quick first flyer from Rubens Barrichello - 1:23.348 sees him go fastest.

  45. 13:10 Alonso has just clocked the third fastest early time but is still behind Piquet.

  46. 13:08 Nelson Piquet Jr has now gone fastest with a 1:24.198 lap. He will be in a good mood after outpacing team-mate Fernando Alonso in FP1 especially after Fernando said this

  48. 13:06 Best early lap so far has been from Robert Kubica's who has clocked a 1:25.197 in his BMW.

  49. 13:03 Sebastien Buemi grinds to a halt on his out lap with steam coming out of his car.

  50. 13:00 And we are now on the clock - a host of cars come out straight away.

From sarg g, on Fri 8 May 3:04PM
  5. Well, the results of these test practices seldom bear any influence on the qualifying talkless of the race proper. Imagine Nakajima coming second! Not even when McLaren and Ferrari are not having the best of seasons.

  6. 23 - I thought Piquet would have been promoted to Touring Cars this year. I guess Flavio is slow all around.....

  7. Meda M - they do already and call it A1 - That is another championship. This is F1, all about inventing and inovation. Did you Hear that MAX!!!??? Let them invent and inovate!! Please:-)

  8. TT - Yup, I'm used to it. Watching Ferrari all season screwing with Massa.....Practice really doensn't mean a thing. Even with the qualifying rules, it is hard to gauge one team agianst the next. The real proof will come out of the pudding on Sunday....so hold on to your tee-shirts F1 fans.....don't go trading them in just yet!

    From A, on Fri 8 May 2:33PM
  9. I second 23's motion, need someone experienced to back up Alonso as opposed to a test driver; Kovalainen and Pique are classic examples of test drivers not cutting it in Renault's sister car; although Kovalainen has improved with McLaren.

From Funky Buck Spubble, on Fri 8 May 2:31PM
  10. That diffuser issue really destroyed this year for me. You can't really pinpoint if it is the drivers fault or the car that is just underperforming. Am thinking they should give standard blueprints for every teams to follow instead of stupid guidelines. We want to see which driver is the best and which teams has the best strategy. Not which teams have the most money or can play the loopholes better...

From meda m, on Fri 8 May 2:26PM
  11. Come on ALONSO! U can do it!I think Piquet should be replaced by some other drivers...
