  1. - Button is all smiles in the sunshine at the British national anthem blasts out on the podium. Thanks for joining me!!

  2. - It's Button in top spot, from Barrichello in second and Mark Webber in third. Vettel comes in fourth, with Alonso fifth. Massa is sixth. Lewis Hamilton finishes in ninth.

  3. 0/66 BUTTON WINS THE SPANISH GRAND PRIX!!!! It's his fourth GP win of the season and he extends his championship lead.

  4. 1/66 Alonso is the next man past Massa, who is helpless to stop it happening.

  5. 1/66 Button begins his last lap in Barcelona!

  6. 2/66 Button laps Hamilton on his penultimate lap. The championship leader past the world champion - who saw that coming before the season?

  7. 3/66 Hamilton is in ninth by the way.

  8. 4/66 Vettel overtakes Massa and moves in fourth. Massa is just looking to hold on for fifth now, with his fuel consumption a real concern.

  9. 6/66 Button is lapping about 0.7 quicker than all the other drivers on the track. Barring a mistake, he'll win the Spanish GP.

  10. 6/66 No change in the leading pack to report. Glock is about 0.3 behind Hamilton in ninth.

  11. 10/66 Massa is being told he needs to watch his fuel usage or risk running out before the finish. "What can I do," he says, "I am trying to fight for a position."

  12. 11/66 Webber is closing on Barrichello. Meanwhile, Massa and Vettel and engaged in a battle for fourth.

  13. 14/66 This is Button's race to lose now. The Englishman is pulling away.

  14. 16/66 Barrichello pits for the third time. He comes out in second. Meanwhile, Mark Webber is up to third. Everybody on hard tyres now.

  15. 19/66 Button pits for the second and final time. He's in and out in 8.7 seconds. Barrichello leads, but remember he STILL HAS TO PIT AGAIN!

  16. 20/66 Hamilton is half a second behind Alonso in eighth. Meanwhile, Button is pulling away for Brawn.

  17. 23/66 Button leads Massa by four seconds, but Massa and Vettel both pit for the final time. They take on hard tyres.

  18. 26/66 Hamilton has gained a place to move into ninth.

  19. 27/66 "We are just dropping behind Jenson," says a technical man in Barrichello's earpiece. "We need to put in some low 23s."

  20. 29/66 Barrichello is now 10.8 seconds behind Button.

  21. 32/66 Barrichello's three-stop strategy is not looking too clever right now. Button's lead is now over nine seconds and Barrichello has a got a lot of work to do if he wants to catch him. Massa is currently in second by the way, with Vettel third. Barrichello is fourth.

  22. 33/66 Button's lead over Barrichello is just over eight seconds.

  23. 34/66 Hamilton has pitted and he's now in 10th. Barrichello pits and Button now leads in Barcelona!

  24. 38/66 Barrichello still has two stops left, while Button only has one. Therefore Barrichello really needs to pull a good deal further away from Button to avoid the championship leader overtaking him later on.

  25. 39/46 Barrichello leads from Button, with Massa third and Vettel in fourth.

  26. 41/66 Raikkonen: "It was something wrong with the controls."

  27. 43/66 Hamilton is in seventh. The world champion is going for a long strategy on fuel.

  28. 45/66 Button has lost ground. Barrichello now leads from Rosberg. Button is back in third.

  29. 46/66 We're back as we were after the top two pit. Barrichello leads from Button. Raikkonen meanwhile is forced out with what appears to be a hydraulics problem. Just 14 drivers left in the race.

  30. 47/66 Button is in and out of the pits, as is Barrichello. It's Barrichello who comes out quickest to extend his lead over his team-mate. Massa leads from Vettel for the time being, with Barrichello third and Jenson fourth.

  31. 49/66 Timo Glock is the first to pit for fuel. The sun is beating down on this Barcelona circuit.

  32. 50/66 Button and Barrichello are five seconds clear of Massa in third. Meanwhile, Raikkonen is having real go at passing Heidfeld.

  33. 52/66 Button beats Barrichello's time and edges closer to his Brawn team-mate.

  34. 53/66 Barrichello laps in 1:23.094 - the fastest so far.

  35. 56/66 Barrichello still leads for Brawn, with his team-mate Button in second. Meanwhile, Sutil on the crash: "Jarno span into my car at the front end. I couldn't really do anything about it...the first corner is always tricky here."

  36. 57/66 Kovalainen is out. The diagnosis is a gearbox issue.

  37. 58/66 Trulli: "Rosberg came back on the track too quickly and to avoid him I had to steer quickly and I span off."

  38. 59/66 Barrichello is holding his lead, with Button in second. Kovalainen has some problems, he's in the pits and his race could be over.

  39. 60/66 Hamilton takes Kovalainen to move into 12th. The KERS technology surely played a part in that move.

  40. 61/66 The safety car moves aside and we are back racing!

  41. 62/66 The safety car is bad news for Vettel, who was planning an early surge on light fuel.

  42. 63/66 Workers are still clearing debris from the track, as the cars cruise round in formation.

  43. 66/66 Barrichello takes Button on the opening straight and leads. Felipe Massa is in third. But the safety car makes an early appearance after Jarno Trulli's Toyota skids off and back on to the track. Adrian Sutil's Force India is involved in the ensuing mayhem and is forced out. Sebastien Bourdais and Sebastien Buemi of Toro Rosso are also out of the race.

  44. 66/66 AWAY THEY GO!!!

  45. - The track is currently at 44 degrees, the hottest it's been all weekend.

  46. - The way this track is set up we have a good stretch before the first corner, so it should be an exciting start.

  47. - For those of you who missed qualifying, let me update you. Brawn's Jenson Button took a dramatic pole with the last lap of the session. Sebastien Vettel of Red Bull and Brawn's Rubens Barrichello were second and third quickest. Lewis Hamilton starts back in 14th.

  48. - Good afternoon and welcome to our LIVE coverage of the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona!

  1. Well done Button, Ross Brawn and all of the Brawn workers. My mum and my dad say that it is good that Button is winning every race but it has been boring seeing the same driver and car win 4 of the 5 races. Formula 1 is really going down hill and it is garbage. I think there is something illegal in the Brawn car. They don't even have the kers system yet they are winning more or less 100 percent of the time.

The budjet cap is also rubbish and Formula 1 is going to lose a lot of money. I as 1 am so bored of watching it and I have stopped watching it. So up yours Bernie Eccelstone and all in favour of the budget cap.

  2. My heart goes out to Massa. He drove a superb race only to have 4th place snatched from him by a Ferrari team miscalculation. Great race by Jenson but it should have been Ruben's day. Even Jenson apologised to him for the win. Nice to see Mark Webber on the podium.

  3. Credit where it's due. Ross Brawn has put a competitive team together with little notice and even less funding.
It's not about team orders, Rubens and Jenson are equal until qualifying is over, it is only then that strategy takes over and the best result for the team becomes priority.

From PAUL A, on Sun 10 May 7:14PM
  4. To all those who think Rubens was not on pace to win, In his own words:
"I had the race in my hands and I was quite surprised when they told me they were switching Jenson to two (stops). I would like to understand why they changed that. If that happens I won't follow any team orders anymoreI'm making it clear now so everyone knows."
Team orders stink. they take all the majesty out of F1 and diminish all of us.

  5. Both Barichello and Button were on 3 stop strategies at the start.. they did not swap Barichello mid-race, they swapped Button to a 2!

You lot need to get your facts right before bleating off here. Oh, and Malcolm, Button has always been good, he's just had a poor car before. No, it's not all about the car, it's a combination of car and driver. Put a poor driver in a good car and you still finish last.

And don'tblinkpanic.. if you don't like F1, why are you here reading the results and commenting on the forum?

pbcouriers.. the rules change every year, with the goal to reduce or negate the speed improvements the teams make during the course of the season. They don't want the sport to get faster as it compromises racing and safety. The goal for every set of rule changes is to improve the spectacle for the fans - it is after all a business to make money. Sometimes the rules improve things, sometimes they don't. Personally I think this is the best season so far for a number of years, as the cars are running much closer and there is lots more overtaking,

As for next season, I don't want to see a two-tier system. I do however agree that there should be a budget cap. So, I reckon the budget cap should be enforced, not voluntary, and if Ferrari want to quit and take their ball home so be it. They would never do that as without F1, Ferrari would not have such the high profile and would not sell as many sports cars as they do. Ferrari need F1 as much (or as little) as F1 needs Ferrari.

  11. Touronroute: Buttons win was nothing to do with team orders, it was a split race stategey masterminded by Ross 'the brains' Brawn. You were right about Kimi's one stop race plan though. Oh,my aching ribs. HAHAHAHA.

From Biggles, on Sun 10 May 3:05PM
  12. floyd - yeah dream on - he was in the lead with more fuel and they switch him to a three stopper? for what reason? Tires were no issue this race and he was the ONLY car in the field on a planned three stopper....

From tt, on Sun 10 May 3:04PM
  13. Why did Brawn put Rubens Barrichello on a 3stop when he had more fuel then Button at the start!! Just a fix so that Button wins, what a joke - Rubens should have won today! Shamefull tactics and undeserved win!
