Live Commentary

  1. - Thanks for joining us for this final practice session at Istanbul; you can follow the all-important qualifying session with us at 12:00 UK time.

  2. - Trulli is second fastest behind Massa, followed by Glock, Nakajima, Kubica, Barrichello, Button, Rosberg, Raikkonen, Vettel, Piquet and Hamilton.

  3. 0' Felipe Massa secures the fastest time in Free Practice 3 with a 1:27.983, and the top 12 are all incredibly close, with qualifying set to be a very tight affair.

  4. 1' Nakajima moves fourth fastest with his final lap, while Jarno Trulli goes second after the finish of his superb lap. Alonso picks up one spot into 19th, but that is not good enough, as the chequered flag greets the drivers.

  5. 2' Jarno Trulli is seventh fastest, but looks to be on a very fast lap in his Toyota, while Kubica also seems to be constructing a very swift lap. Meanwhile, Alonso has it all to do on his final lap.

  6. 3' Every driver is now back on the track for the final of Free Practice 3, and most look to have opted for the softer tyre, in contrast to Friday's session.

  7. 4' Glock goes from 13th to second in one very swift lap, moving behind Massa, and Raikkonen runs wide going into turn 2, preventing what would have been a sharp lap. Trulli also runs off at turn 9.

  8. 6' Glock is 13th fastest but looks to be on a flier on soft tyres, while Trulli is also picking up some good pace in his Toyota.

  9. 8' Massa is finally joined by Barrichello and Rosberg after the Ferrari driver was the only man on the track for a while.

  10. 10' Massa is fastest still with his 1:27.983, and Barrichello is in second, followed by Rosberg and Nakajima.

  11. 12' Rosberg, who is in third, ducks into the pits quickly as team-mate Nakajima moves third fastest - a fine run.

  12. 14' Heidfeld improves his fastest time but remains back in 12th, as Button drops to seventh and is receiving incessant direction from his team radio regarding his tyres.

  13. 16' Raikkonen improves to go third fastest, while Alonso joins Kovalainen and Bourdais in running off the track extravagantly after losing grip completely on turn nine.

  14. 18' Alonso is currently 19th fastest, while his Renault team mate Nelson Piquet is in fourth - a stark difference for the Frenchman.

  15. 20' Mark Webber is in tenth right now, but is in the process of setting a much faster lap in his Red Bull, while Fernando Alonso is back out.

  16. 22' Adrian Sutil in his Force Inida sets a fastest first sector, while Massa improves to 1:27.983.

  17. 24' Massa regain top spot with a 1:28.253 in his Ferrari, and Robert Kubica is again starting quickly, but seems to tail off towards the end of each lap.

  18. 26' Nelson Piquet moves 12th fastest in his Renault, up eight places after a relatively brisk lap with the option tyre, and Button remains in third.

  19. 28' Sebastian Bourdais comes off the track, replicating what happened to Kovalainen earlier.

  20. 30' Button and Barrichello are both looking good, while Rosberg continues to set the pace on the softer tyre.

  21. 32' Indeed, Rosberg goes fastest with a 1:28.364, and there is less than seven-tenths of a second between the top-12 drivers at the moment.

  22. 34' Barrichello goes fastest with a 1:28.514, with Rosberg setting a superb first-sector time on his current lap.

  23. 36' Kovalainen has a nightmare on his latest lap, losing all group and seeing his car wobble off the track fiercely.

  24. 38' Robert Kubica and Nick Heidfeld, whose time is 1:29.280, are both warming up nicely, with Button #plus;0.475 off Massa.

  25. 40' The Brawn duo of Rubens Barrichello and Jenson Button are out on the track, and despite having a disappointing session on Friday, they will be confident of coming through like they did in Monaco.

  26. 42' Nick Heidfeld is about to leave the pits in his BMW, while Glock remains almost a second off his team mate, Trulli at the moment.

  27. 44' 1:29.046 is Massa's improved time as the Ferrari driver looks to find his rhythm on one of his favourite tracks. Adrian Sutil sets a 1:30.038, while his team mate Fisichella is back out.

  28. 46' Glock was unhappy with the grip he had yesterday and records a third-fastest 1:31.125, as his Toyota team-mate Trulli is narrowly quicker along with Adrian Sutil.

  29. 48' Felipe Massa sets the fastest time so far with a 1:30.238, while Jarno Trulli is out and looking sharp early on.

  30. 50' It is a very strange atmosphere at the Istanbul circuit, with Raikkonen coming into the final bend to be greeted by a virtually empty grandstand.

  31. 52' Unusually, the harder tyre proved to be the quicker for the majority of the drivers yesterday, and it seems likely that many will look to qualify on them later today.

  32. 54' Raikkonen, the 2007 champion, had real trouble with his F60 on Friday, with the car looking unbalanced with the back end darting about.

  33. 56' Felipe Massa and Fernando Alonso are going through final checks in the pits, as Kimi Raikkonen heads out.

  34. 58' Robert Kubica, Jarno Trulli and Adrian Sutil are out next, with Nico Rosberg just after as the drivers complete their installation laps.

  35. 60' Timo Glock is the first driver out for the final session of practice, with Giancarlo Fisichella and Sebastian Vettel right behind him.

  36. - Heikki Kovalainen was the fastest in Free Practice 2, and the MacLaren driver will be looking to sustain his good form in the final session.

  37. - Welcome to live text coverage of Free Practice 3 of the Turkish Grand Prix, where Felipe Massa has won from pole the last three years.
