Bahrain GP - *The Race (57 Laps)

Live Comments

  1. 57/57 - FELIPE MASSA WINS!! And Lewis Hamilton comes through for another magnificent second place! The third step of the podium goes to Kimi Raikkonen, while Nick Heidfeld claims a superb fourth ahead of Fernando Alonso.

  2. 57/57 - Last lap! Massa is home free - it's just a case of getting round these last couple of miles.

  3. 56/57 - Fisichella has a pop at Trulli at the end of the straight, but his Italian compatriot slams the door shut!

  4. 55/57 - Hamilton has cut the lead to 3.5 seconds, but with just two laps left there's no chance of any final heroics.

  5. 53/57 - There's a yellow flag out as a result of that Davidson blow-up, but no safety car.

  6. 52/57 - The searing heat claims another victim - it's the engine of Anthony Davidson's Super Aguri.

  7. 51/57 - Few tight battles as this race nears its end. The world champion is stuck in fifth place and that seems to be where he is going to finish. Kubica, Trulli and Fisichella in the minor points position.

  8. 49/57 - Mark Webber has said he does not know what was the problem with his car, but declared himself frustrated with his team for leaving his fuel flap open after a pit stop.

  9. 48/57 - Eight full laps to go and Hamilton has shaved the lead to 5.9 seconds, but he is surely going to run out of time.

  10. 46/57 - Massa holds a 10-second lead over Hamilton. The Brit is now taking six tenths of a second a lap out of the Brazilian, but he has little genuine hope of winning this race.

  11. 44/57 - Hamilton comes into the pits for the last time - this is crucial, can he get out in front of Raikkonen? HE CAN! Lewis Hamilton holds on to second place!

  12. 43/57 - More woe for Red Bull. Mark Webber is out - his car stopped at the side of the track. Both men could have finished in the points today, but reliability issues have haunted the team.

  13. 42/57 - In comes Kimi Raikkonen from third and Lewis Hamilton leads - for now, at least. He really needs to push now to ensure he gets away from his stop in front of Raikkonen.

  14. 41/57 - Race leader Felipe Massa comes in for his last pit stop - the Ferrari team strap on some hard tyres and the Brazilian is away. Good stop, and he looks well set to win this race.

  15. 40/57 - Ralf Schumacher is touring - the Toyota man clearly has serious issues.

  16. 38/57 - Kimi Raikkonen has closed to within a second of Lewis Hamilton, and you'd have to say the Ferrari man is favourite to get past the young Briton.

  17. 37/57 - Disaster for Coulthard! His Red Bull expires, and so ends one of the drives of the season so far. The Scotsman undone by a driveshaft failure.

  18. 34/57 - BOOM! That noise is the engine of Takuma Sato's Super Aguri blowing up. Smoke everywhere, that's his race very much over.

  19. 33/57 - The sun continues to beat down in Manama - it's a baking hot day as you would imagine, and these drivers will have to show even more endurance than usual today.

  20. 32/57 - Nick Heidfeld lines up Alonso.. and takes him! Candy from a baby! Great move from the German, and the world champion is having a nightmare here.

  21. 31/57 - Seventh place for Coulthard! He breezes past Kovalainen, and the Scot is surely going to bag Red Bull's first points of the 2007 season.

  22. 30/57 - Lewis Hamilton is losing time to Felipe Massa - to the tune of half a second per lap. Not good news for the Brit, whose aim will probably now be to cling on to second.

  23. 29/57 - There must be something wrong with Alonso. He is only six tenths ahead of fifth-place man Nick Heidfeld, although he has been held up by a bit of traffic.

  24. 25/57 - Virtually everybody has pitted, and the current race order is 1-Massa, 2-Hamilton, 3-Raikkonen, 4-Alonso, 5-Heidfeld, 6-Davidson, 7-Kubica, 8-Fisichella. Although Anthony Davidson is one of the few not to have come in yet.

  25. 22/57 - Alonso and Raikkonen both pit, and the Ferrari man gets out in front of the world champion! The Finn up to third!

  26. 21/57 - Race over for Vitantonio Liuzzi, who has fallen victim to mechanical trouble.

  27. 20/57 - Hamilton is the first of the leaders to pit - probably not good news for him, as it means he was running fairly light on that early section.

  28. 19/57 - Yet another fastest lap for Lewis Hamilton - 1:34.270! The Briton is charging, but he doesn't seem to have the straightline speed to get past Massa on the straight.

  29. 18/57 - Coulthard and Wurz come in for their first stops, as does Ralf Schumacher. They re-emerge in the order in which they went in.

  30. 17/57 - Race order: 1-Massa, 2-Hamilton, 3-Alonso, 4-Raikkonen, 5-Heidfeld, 6-Kubica, 7-Fisichella, 8-Webber.

  31. 16/57 - Coulthard through again! He gets past Alex Wurz and charges into 11th place! He will have his sights set on a points finish now, and is looking good.

  32. 14/57 - Raikkonen is all over the back of Alonso but can't get through. He runs wide and the Finn is getting frustrated. There is quite a gap between the front two and Alonso in third - eight seconds.

  33. 11/57 - Nico Rosberg runs wide off the track and David Coulthard nips up the inside to take 12th.

  34. 9/57* - 1:35.137 for Lewis Hamilton, and the McLaren rookie sets a fastest lap! As we have seen this season, Ferrari and McLaren are absolutely streets ahead of the rest.

  35. 7/57* - Fastest lap for Felipe Massa. 1:35.4. Lower down the field, David Coulthard is past Anthony Davidson and up into 13th place.

  36. 6/57* - There is still a certain amount of blue smoke coming from the back of Lewis Hamilton's McLaren. His car is performing fine, but that has to be a major concern for Ron Dennis and his team.

  37. 5/57* - Kimi Raikkonen is the fastest man on the track but he is still stuck in fourth place. Hamilton is six tenths behind Massa, but both men are locking up and that could cause them havoc as the race progresses.

  38. 3/57* - Adrian Sutil was also involved in that crash, and has pitted to get a new nosecone. New safety car rules means drivers can pit two laps after it comes out, rather than immediately. Liuzzi comes in to change tyres - he's going from hard to soft tyres.

  39. 1/57* - Safety car! Jenson Button and Scott Speed have collided. They are both out, and their cars sprawled all over the track. No way the race can go on at full speed, and out comes the safety car. Another huge disappointment for Button. Meanwhile, Alonso has nosed in front of Raikkonen to take third.

  40. 1/57* - GOOOOOOO!!! A thrilling start with the front four going into the first corner line astern, but the starting positions are maintained! Massa, Hamilton, Raikkonen, Alonso, Raikkonen.

  41. -**** - The drivers are off on their formation lap. Just a couple of minutes from the start now. A bit of smoke coming out the back of Hamilton's car - hopefully that's nothing serious.
