Live Comments

  1. 14:50 - The Spanish national anthem rings out for Alonso on the podium, and doesn't he deserve it too. Next up is the Canadian Grand Prix in two weeks. Join us again for that. Bye bye.

  2. 78/78 - David Coulthard has broken down on the final lap in his Red Bull at Tabac.

  3. 78/78 - Massa finishes third with Fisichella fourth.

  4. 78/78 - That means Alonso is now level on points with Hamilton for the championship lead.

  5. 78/78 - No mistakes... ALONSO WINS!!! Hamilton takes second and that is McLaren's 150th victory too.

  6. 77/78 - Just one to go now...

  7. 76/78 - Just three laps to go now for Alonso...

  8. 74/78 - Christijan Albers retires his Spyker in the pits.

  9. 73/78 - It looks like Hamilton is now backing off too. He's dropped to three seconds behind Alonso.

  10. 71/78 - Speaking of Heidfeld, can he go the rest of the race without another pit-stop? You'd think so but I'm just not certain.

  11. 70/78 - Robert Kubica has a moment at Loews. He doesn't need to try anything silly right now, as he's holding the place pretty comfortably.

  12. 66/78 - Raikkonen has been released, and has taken 2.5 seconds a lap out of Wurz over the past four laps to move right onto the Williams driver's tail.

  13. 62/78 - Yes he does, and he exits behind his team-mate. That moves Raikkonen into the points. Could he make up another place? Does Heidfeld have to stop again from sixth? If he does it could even let Scott Speed into a points place.

  14. 61/78 - Barrichello stops from eighth. We didn't expect that. That moves his team-mate Button into the place, but does he have to stop again now?

  15. 60/78 - Rosberg pits from tenth, so Raikkonen takes a top-ten spot. Speaking of Williams though, Alex Wurz has quietly been having an absolute barnstomer of a race and is now seventh.

  16. 60/78 - Now it's a second, but you can be sure McLaren will have told Hamilton not to challenge his team-leader.

  17. 59/78 - Alonso has backed off big style, allowing Hamilton to take over a second out of him over the last three laps. He is now only 1.6 seconds behind.

  18. 56/78 - Adrian Sutil crashes his Spyker out of the race. He repeated Liuzzi's smash at Massanet but keeps his car running before pulling off after Casino Square. It will be much easier for the Marshals to retrieve the car from there.

  19. 55/78 - Massa and Fisichella pit from third and fourth and hold station.

  20. 53/78 - Hamilton is in from the lead. FIVE SECONDS IS A SENSATIONAL STOP but he still has to watch on as Alonso breezes by into the lead.

  21. 51/78 - Alonso pits for the final time from the lead. 8.0 seconds and he loses the top spot to Hamilton, who must try to find nine seconds before his final stop to stand any chance of winning.

  22. 50/78 - Sixth place Nick Heidfeld and Nico Rosberg a few places further back both still have their second stops to go. That should move both Hondas back to the points. Not Raikkonen though.

  23. 48/78 - Raikkonen pits from seventh and that's dropped him back to 11th.

  24. 46/78 - Kubica has come out after his one and only stop without losing fifth place. This has been a tremendous drive by the Pole, and provides proof that the one-stop strategy has been the way to go today unless you have clear track like the McLarens.

  25. 44/78 - Alonso sets the fastest lap. He's starting to make this race look like it's in his bag.

  26. 44/78 - Raikkonen is now in the points, but he won't stay there for long unless he can stay out longer than Heidfeld and get a charge on to try and get himself out infront of the Hondas when the shake-up is over. Eighth looks like the best he can hope for at the moment, but let's see what he can do.

  27. 43/78 - Alonso is making things count when it matters most. He is now 7.5 seconds up, stealing an advantage in traffic, and ensuring his lead will be at its biggest when the pit-stops come.

  28. 42/78 - Button stops from seventh, and re-joins behind Barrichello... BUT AHEAD OF ROSBERG! Great strategy from Honda. They could end up with a double helping of points here. Rosberg, remember, was running sixth early on.

  29. 40/78 - The two McLarens are holding station with a five-second gap between them. That's much better for Hamilton. After he lost nine seconds in the first sector of the race he has lost nothing at all since the pit-stops.

  30. 38/78 - Rubens Barrichello is in from fifth, and he has joined behind Speed in 11th.

  31. 37/78 - Anthony Davidson comes in for a drive-through penalty that he's been given for blocking the leaders earlier in the race.

  32. 36/78 - Webber: "I had a few different problems. I had a small misfire with the engine, not fantastic through the swimming pool, but I was getting on with it. Then I downshifted to third and lost all the gears. I tried to drive around it but do that for too long and you'll end up in the barriers."

  33. 35/78 - Jenson Button is into the points... for now, as is Rubens Barrichello. What a great race Honda are having by their 2007 standards.

  34. 33/78 - Yes he does.... AND HE SQUEEZES INBETWEEN BUTTON AND RAIKKONEN. Disaster for the Finn. He could really have done without that.

  35. 32/78 - Heidfeld pits from fourth. Will he keep position over Rosberg?

  36. 30/78 - Massa messes up his breaking at the exit of the swimming pool and goes over the speed bumps before re-joining the track. That was a near miss, but he keeps his front wing intact.

  37. 29/78 - McLaren took some pressure out of Hamilton's rear tyres. That will make his car oversteer less than otherwise.

  38. 28/78 - Hamilton is in. 8.9 seconds is longer than Alonso.... and the world champion gets the lead back.

  39. 27/78 - Second time around, with Alonso now up to speed on his new tyres, the gap between the pair is only three tenths of a second.

  40. 26/78 - Hamilton's lead at the moment is 16 seconds. My my reckoning he needs 21 to put Alonso under pressure. Let's see what he can do.... OOOH! He goes in far too deep at Rasscasse... BUT SETS THE FASTEST LAP!

  41. 25/78 - Alonso pits from the lead. 7.5 seconds is plenty enough. He loses the lead to Hamilton, so this is Lewis' chance to put the hammer down and gain some time. Massa pits too and keeps third.

  42. 23/78 - Rosberg fed out behind Raikkonen, so the Ferrari man, who we think is carrying one hell of a heavy fuel load, is now up to tenth.

  43. 22/78 - Giancarlo Fisichella is the first of the lead group to stop from fourth place. He exits the pits side by side with Nick Heidfeld.... THE BMW DRIVER GETS FOURTH! Rosberg is in too from sixth.

  44. 21/78 - ALONSO SMASHES THE LAP RECORD! 1:15.7 for the world champion. That's his way of showing Lewis whose boss.

  45. 20/78 - Hamilton has reduced the gap though. He was nine seconds behind before the traffic and 5.5 behind after it.

  46. 20/78 - In all of that it's worth noticing that Sato made it by Trulli for 15th place.

  47. 19/78 - Hamilton has closed down to within three seconds of Alonso while the leader negotiates the traffic. The Brit now loses the same amount of time himself.

  48. 18/78 - Mark Webber is out of the race. He trundles into the pit lane and sees his Red Bull pushed into the garage. Yet more bad luck for Webber in this pointless season.

  49. 17/18 - Alonso is already well in and amongst the backmarkers. He has four ahead of him, with Trulli, Sato, Davidson and Sutil all there.

  50. 16/78 - Ralf Schumacher sets his best lap of the race. Well done Ralf, just the erm, Spykers to deal with then to get you out of that rather rubbish 21st place. He was already lapped three laps ago.

  51. 12/78 - It's bad news for Raikkonen though, who is already 48 seconds off the lead after only 12 laps.

  52. 10/78 - Already fourth place Fisichella has 15 seconds in hand over the battle for fifth between Heidfeld and Rosberg. Is this a sign that Renault's latest tweaks are moving them ahead of BMW Sauber in the race to be best of the rest behind the big two?

  53. 9/78* - Alonso, what can you say about the guy. He now has five seconds over Hamilton, who is hardly cruising, evidenced by the fact that he is three seconds clear of Massa.

  54. 8/78* - Raikkonen has closed in to within half a second of Jenson Button's 11th place Honda.

  55. 7/78* - Alonso is so quick right now. Another second is added to his gap. Now it's 2.8 seconds

  56. 4/78* - Alonso is putting the hammer down already. He goes around three quarters of a second quicker than Hamilton on lap four and his lead is now up to 1.8 seconds.

  57. 3/78* - It has. The car is out of the way.

  58. 2/78* - The yellow flags are out. That should avert the need for a safety car.

  59. 2/78* - OOH! Tonio Liuzzi hits the barriers hard at Massanet. He got his Toro Rosso over the crest in the middle of the road and just lost all grip.

  60. 2/78* - Alonso completes the first lap with half a second in hand over Hamilton. Kimi Raikkonen has made a good start too and is up to 12th from 16th on the grid.

  61. 1/78* - Alonso streaks away with Lewis Hamilton chopping in front of Massa right behind him. Heidfeld makes it by Rosberg and into fifth.

  62. 0/78* - We're ready to go.... Lights on.

  63. 0/78* - We're on the formation lap now. Fernando Alonso leads them round.

  64. 12:45 - It's dry for the moment, and the skies do not look like they contain much rain at the moment, so we could well have a bone dry race.

  65. 09:00 - Good morning and welcome to LIVE coverage of the Monaco Grand Prix on eurosport.yahoo.com. The race is due to get underway at 13:00 UK time and an exciting afternoon is well and truly in store.
