Live Comments

  1. 59/59 - So Hamilton's championship lead is down from 14 points to 12. Can he re-extend it in Germany in two weeks time? Log on to www.eurosport.yahoo.co.uk a week on Sunday to find out.

  2. 59/59 - Kubica holds off Massa for fourth while Heidfeld, Kovalainen and Fisichella complete the points.

  3. 59/59 - Second for Alonso and third for Hamilton. He'll be disappointed with that after starting from pole but the home crowd still give him a huge cheer.

  4. 59/59 - HE DOES!!!! RAIKKONEN WINS AT SILVERSTONE. HIS SECOND WIN IN A ROW AND HIS THIRD OF THE YEAR!!!!

  5. 59/59 - This will close him to within 18 points of Hamilton's championship lead if he can just get round the complex...

  6. 59/59 - Raikkonen's into the final lap. No wins in six races and then two in two - almost - for the Finn. What a resurgence.

  7. 57/59 - Still Massa can't find a way by.

  8. 55/59 - Kubica is still holding off Massa. Felipe is really looking for that extra point.

  9. 54/59 - Tonio Liuzzi retires at Abbey. That's a mechanical problem for the Toro Rosso driver.

  10. 52/59 - Raikkonen is pulling away steadily at the front and now has 7.5 seconds in hand over Alonso with Hamilton now well back in a lonely third.

  11. 50/59 - Kubica is driving a great defensive race from Massa. He is slow out of the slower turns but the Brazilian can't get by.

  12. 49/59 - Anthony Davidson says his car was bottoming out a lot due to a mechanical failure at the rear of his Super Aguri. He retired because his car felt “dangerous to drive.”

  13. 48/59 - Massa's tyres are fully up to temperature now and he is right on Kubica's tail. He just took three quarters of a second out of him.

  14. 47/59 - Having said that though, Massa is only just over a second behind Kubica and this one will surely run right to the end of the race.

  15. 46/59 - Massa pits from third. 6.8 seconds is his stop.... Kubica comes through and re-takes fourth but the Brazilian has managed to easily leapfrog Fisichella and Heidfeld with his pace.

  16. 46/59 - Jarno Trulli retires his Toyota in the pits.

  17. 45/59 - The fastest man on-track is Massa, now third. He is really charging in a desperate attempt to ovehaul Heidfeld. He is lapping quicker than Kubica too. Could fourth place be on the cards?

  18. 44/59 - It's looking very, very good.... RAIKKONEN BEATS ALONSO BACK ONTO THE TRACK!!!! WHAT A STUNNING SERIES OF LAPS FROM THE FINN TO GET OUT IN THE TOP SPOT!!!

  19. 43/59 - Raikkonen pits at the end of lap 43. 6.6 seconds. It's looking good, it's looking good....

  20. 42/59 - ANOTHER SECOND!!! Raikkonen should be leading overall with that...

  21. 41/59 - ANOTHER NINE TENTHS QUICKER THAN ALONSO!!!! RAIKKONEN IS REALLY MAKING HIS PACE COUNT!!! One more lap at this pace and he will be alongside the McLaren as they exit the pits, provided Ferrari don't mess up with the tyre change...

  22. 40/59 - HE TAKES ANOTHER SECOND OUT! Overall this should put him within two seconds of the McLaren. He needs two more laps at this pace.

  23. 39/59 - RAIKKONEN TAKES A SECOND OUT OF ALONSO. This is what he needs to keep doing up to the pit-stops.

  24. 39/59 - A crucial time for Massa. Fisichella has stopped and he needs to leapfrog the Renault for sixth overall.

  25. 38/59 - Hamilton pits from a temporary second. 8.1 seconds and the McLaren team make a front wing adjustment. Soft tyres go on and he re-joins the track behind Massa.

  26. 38/59 - Crucially he has five backmarkers ahead of him while Raikkonen has ten seconds of clear air ahead of him. If Kimi can stay out for another five laps or so then he might just have a chance.

  27. 37/59 - Alonso makes his final pit-stop from the lead. 8.2 seconds and that will get him out in third.

  28. 36/59 - Bad news for Raikkonen. The Hondas of Barrichello and Button both leave the pits after their stops and filter into the gap between the lead duo. Raikkonen loses over a second passing them.

  29. 35/59 - Massa's progress has been stymied a bit since the pit-stops 12 laps ago. He closed the four-second gap to Fisichella and has been stationed under the rear diffuser of the Renault for the last seven laps.

  30. 34/59 - Raikkonen is starting to close in on Alonso. He's reduced the gap from 4.6 to 3.9 seconds in the last two laps, and it has not been down to traffic eighther. This is a two-horse race now with Hamilton ten seconds behind the Ferrari.

  31. 33/59 - Wurz hasn't got too many problems. He passes Trulli back.

  32. 31/59 - Anthony Davidson retires his Super Aguri in the pits.

  33. 30/59 - Speed leaves a gap... Wurz goes for it... THEY COLLIDE AND SPEED ALMOST FLIPS WURZ OVER!!! Speed is out with a broken left-front suspension arm while Wurz takes a trip across the grass and continues.

  34. 30/59 - Alonso is having trouble lapping Alex Wurz and Scott Speed. He makes it by into club...

  35. 28/59 - Ralf Schumacher says it was suspension failure that caused his retirement from a points-paying position.

  36. 27/59 - Hamilton has a big lock-up at Abbey. That's unusual from the Brit.

  37. 25/59 - Hamilton is not showing good pace at all on his hard tyres. He has dropped nine seconds to Alonso in the ten laps since his stop. 11 seconds really when you think about it as he had been two clear first of all.

  38. 24/59 - Adrian Sutil's engine blows down the Hangar straight. The Spyker driver is out.

  39. 24/59 - David Coulthard is in eighth overall. Nice move from the Brit. Oh no, he hasn's stopped yet and will drop back when he does.

  40. 24/59 - Alonso is pulling away at the front. His lead over Raikkonen is up to 3.9 seconds with Hamilton a similar distance behind the Finn.

  41. 23/59 - Ralf Schumacher is retiring in the pits. What bad luck for the Toyota to give out on what was his best race of the year so far.

  42. 22/59 - Massa made his stop on the same lap and the result is that he has made one place, passing Ralf Schumacher and Heikki Kovalainen to make it into seventh place.

  43. 21/59 - Alonso pits from the lead. 6.7 seconds is a great stop!!! HE EXITS THE PITS AHEAD OF RAIKKONEN!!!! THE SPANIARD HAS THE ADVANTAGE IN THE BRITISH GRAND PRIX!!!!!

  44. 20/59 - Heidfeld pits... and exits back onto the track ahead of Fisichella. This first round of stops have been very good to the German-Swiss team.

  45. 20/59 - Effectlively then Raikkonen leads this race, but don't forget about Alonso, the man that now leads this race. The Spaniard is lapping in the 21.5s and was only two seconds behind Raikkonen when he stopped.

  46. 19/59 - Raikkonen pits from the lead... 9.1 seconds and he heads down the pit-lane... Massa goes by into fourth... RAIKKONEN EMERGES AHEAD OF HAMILTON!!!!! A BIG CHANGE AT THE FRONT!!!

  47. 18/59 - RAIKKONEN DOES THE FASTEST LAP OF THE RACE! That will help him alright!

  48. 17/59 - He probably lost around two seconds with that, but he gets away and exits the pits behind Massa, so he's dropped to eighth.

  49. 17/59 - Hamilton pits from the lead. HE TRIES TO PULL AWAY WITH THE FUEL RIG STILL ATTACHED!!! He pulls the clutch in though and only moves a metre.

  50. 16/59 - Kovalainen is the first to pit for Renault. He loses sixth place.

  51. 16/59 - ALONSO IS CLOSING IN ON THE LEADERS. He took eight tenths out of Hamilton as he battled with Raikkonen. This is playing right into the world champion's hands. He's now only 1.9 second off the lead.

  52. 15/59 - Hamilton's hard tyres could be going off while Raikkonen's soft Bridgestones could be the factor in giving him the extra grip at this stage of the race. Remember the Ferrari has to use the hards at some point this afternoon.

  53. 14/59 - Raikkonen closes right in at Abbey. Again not quite close enough... HE HAS A GO AROUND THE OUTSIDE AT PRIORY AND ON THE INSIDE AT BROOKLANDS..... HAMILTON CHOPS HIM OFF AND ALMOST GETS NERFED UP THE REAR!!!!

  54. 14/59 - Raikkonen bangs in the fastest lap of the race and he's now wight on Hamilton's tail. HE GETS INTO THE TOW ON HANGAR STRAIGHT.... but he's not quite close enough.

  55. 13/59 - Change of position at Renault. Fisichella goes by Kovalainen for fifth at Stowe. The Finn looked to get out of the way pretty easily there. Perhaps that's team orders at play with the Italian on a lighter fuel load needing some clear track.

  56. 12/59 - Massa has already caught Trulli... HE DIVES BY THE TOYOTA AND INTO NINTH AT STOWE. That Ferrari has some serious straightline speed.

  57. 11/59 - For the record at the end of lap 11 Hamilton leads the Finn by 0.9 seconds.

  58. 11/59 - The action is so good in mid-pack that we've ignored Lewis Hamilton and Kimi Raikkonen at the front, which is of course a real injustice.

  59. 10/59 - Massa is the real gainer here. He moves up to tenth, but he has to make up 2.7 seconds to catch Jarno Trulli's ninth place Toyota.

  60. 9/59* - Mark Webber is slowing from tenth place in the sister Red Bull. That's a technical problem. He's into the pits but that car's race seems to be run.

  61. 8/59* - Coulthard holds the place but Massa has a great momentum... HE DIVES UP THE INSIDE INTO ABBEY AND TAKES 11TH PLACE FROM THE 2000 and 1999 winner.

  62. 8/59* - Massa tries to go around the outside of Coulthard at Stowe. The Red Bull hugs the inside... but Massa sees a gap and gets alongside into Club.

  63. 8/59* - Rosberg has a go at Coulthard for 11th at Club. COULTHARD SQUEEZES HIM ONTO THE GRASS!!! Massa says thankyou very much and nips by the Williams driver and into 12th.

  64. 7/59* - Ferrari are worried about Massa. The telemetry shows his stall as not being standard problem. They are worried he could stall again at the pit-stops.

  65. 6/59* - Raikkonen closes in to within 0.8 seconds of the lead with the best lap of the race.

  66. 6/59* - Massa makes another place, slingshotting by Speed - who's displaying a lack of compartive erm... speed, down the straight. That's 13th for Massa.

  67. 5/59* - Hamilton maintains his one second lead over Raikkonen as he sets the fastest lap of the race.

  68. 4/59* - Massa is really charging here. He slices inside Alex Wurz for 14th at Stowe. His next target is Scott Speed's Toro Rosso.

  69. 3/59* - .... as Massa goes inside Liuzzi's Toro Rosso at Copse for 15th. That's Ferrari engine on Ferrari engine...

  70. 3/59* - Hamilton's lead over Raikkonen is up to a second after three laps.

  71. 2/59* - Massa makes another place. He goes around the outside of Button at Abbey and is into 17th in his Ferrari... and he takes advantage of a slide from Barrichello at Luffield to grab 16th.

  72. 2/59* - Massa slots inside Davidson at Copse and is up to 18th.

  73. 2/59* - Over the line and it's Hamilton, Raikkonen, Alonso, Kubica, Kovalainen, Fisichella, Heidfeld, Schumacher after a bad start, Coulthard and Trulli for your top ten.

  74. 1/59* - Jenson Button is moving. He goes by Anthony Davidson at the exit of Vale and is into 17th...

  75. 1/59* - Hamilton chops across infront of Raikkonen to keep the lead into Copse, Alonso and Kubica follow with one of the Renaults already up to fifth. It's Kovalainen.

  76. 1/59* - We're off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  77. 0/59* - Back on the grid and ready for the second time.... Teh tension is building... the lights are on...

  78. 0/59* - The cars leave the grid for an extra formation lap. That means the race distance is reduced by one lap to 59 laps.

  79. 0/60* - Massa's car will be pushed into the pit-lane as we have an aborted start. He will join Takuma Sato's Super Aguri in there after the Japanese driver's chassis was changed after qualifying.

  80. 0/60* - We're on the grid.... MASSA HAS STALLED HIS FERRARI! Disaster for the fourth place qualifier.

  81. 0/60* - Watch out for the Renaults too. They tend to get away from the line well and have Ralf Schumacher's Toyota and Robert Kubica's BMW in front of them...

  82. 0/60* - We're away for the formation lap with both McLarens starting on the hard tyres and the Ferraris on the softs with the white stripes. The scuderia are coming at this race with one heck of an attacking strategy!

  83. 0/60* - We're all set for the formation lap now...

  84. 12:58 - Britain has already had one winner here today thanks to Adam Carroll's win in the GP2 race this morning. Can Hamilton, one of Carroll's rivals in the series last year, make it a clean sweep?

  85. 12:56 - Anyway, I'm done being self-righteous. Let's settle down for one hell of a race... we hope.

  86. 12:55 - Of course the true fans, the ones who would sell their parents to get on the grid, can't as usual while z-list celebs like, oh there's Bryan McFadden and Danielle Lloyd, who don't care about F1, do. Isn't it just the sad truth?

  87. 12:44 - The grid is packed full of celebrities all keen to cheer Lewis on to victory today. Among them are football superstar David Beckham and his fame-hungry wife, England cricketer Kevin Pietersen, who has chosen to chill out rather than turn out for Hampshire today - very lazy - jockey Frankie Dettori and pop stars Girls Aloud.

  88. 12:33 - The crowd roars as Hamilton exits the pits and sets off towards the starting grid slowly.

  89. 12:31 - Alonso, from Spain, was, in particular looking smug yesterday, even if he wouldn't admit it. I reckon he's heavier than Hamilton today and if he can stay with him in the first stint then he could pass him in the pits later on.

  90. 12:23 - Not that I want to put a dampener on Hamilton's pole, but this race really is wide open. Expect the Ferraris of Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa, and Fernando Alonso in the second McLaren, to be in contention too.

  91. 12:20 - And 22-year-old Hamilton has perfect conditions in which to race today with blue skies and the sun shining.

  92. 12:14 - The crowd went Lewis-crazy yesterday when young Mr Hamilton planted his McLaren on pole, becoming the first Brit to start their for his home race for 11 years.

  93. 12:00 - Good afternoon and welcome to Silverstone for LIVE coverage of the British Grand Prix.
