  1. 60/60 - Join us in a few weeks for the next installment in this story in Hungary in two weeks.

  2. 60/60 - So a sensational race ends with Alonso closing to within two points of Lewis Hamilton at the top of the championship.

  3. 60/60 - Webber is slow out of the chicane.. WURZ IS ALL OVER HIS GEARBOX....HE HOLDS IT AROUND THE LAST TURN THOUGH AND CLAIMS THE PODIUM PLACE. His first time on the rostrum for over two years.

  4. 60/60 - A great end to the race from the Spaniard and Massa follows up in second.

  5. 60/60 - ALONSO ROUNDS THE LAST CORNER AND WINS THE EUROPEAN GRAND PRIX!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. 60/60 - HAMILTON GETS FISICHELLA INTO DUNLOP. One more place and he'll have a point!

  7. 60/60 - One more lap between Alonso and the best win of his career...

  8. 59/60 - Hamilton could have a point here. He is just a second behind ninth place Fisichella and another behind eighth place Kovalainen.

  9. 58/60 - Wurz takes three seconds out of Webber on that lap. The battle for third is far from dead.

  10. 58/60 - Hamilton is down to tenth after pitting for inters... BUT THE RAIN HAS NOW STOPPED!

  11. 57/60 - AND HE IS PULLING AWAY TOO! It's a second with three laps to go.

  12. 56/60 - He tries around the outside at Valvoline... YES.. ALONSO TAKES THE LEAD...AND BANGS WHEELS WITH THE FERRARI AT THE SAME TIME!

  13. 55/60 - Massa is so slow through the chicane.. ALONSO IS ALL OVER HIM. HE TRIES AROUND THE OUTSIDE AT THE LAST CORNER. NO. HE TRIES AROUND THE OUTSIDE AT TURN ONE...NO

  14. 55/60 - ALONSO IS RIGHT ON MASSA'S TAIL. HE TOOK THREE SECONDS OUT OF HIM ON THE OUT-LAP. HE TRIES AROUND THE OUTSIDE AT THE MERCEDES ARENA BUT IS RE-BUFFED!

  15. 54/60 - HAMILTON IS IN THE POINTS! But he is still on dries. If he can just avoid being taken by Kovalainen on inters then he will finish eighth.

  16. 53/60 - Webber, Wurz and Heidfeld all pit.

  17. 53/60 - Massa and Alonso pit for inters. Massa keeps the lead... McLaren release Alonso... AS FISICHELLA IS COMING DOWN THE PIT LANE AND THE ITALIAN HAS TO SLAM ON THE BRAKES TO AVOID A COLLISION!

  18. 52/60 - Coulthard pits from sixth and fits inters.

  19. 51/60 - McLaren are out with intermediates, but did Renault just go too early?

  20. 51/60 - NOW THE RAIN IS STARTING TO COME DOWN! HAVE RENAULT PLAYED A MASTERSTROKE?

  21. 50/60 - It's stopped raining already and the Finn has thrown away an easy fifth place if it does not re-start.

  22. 49/60 - KOVALAINEN PITS FOR INTERS!

  23. 48/60 - ALONSO IS DOWN TO 4.2 SECONDS BEHIND MASSA!

  24. 48/60 - People are pulling their coats on. Is it starting to rain? YES IT IS!!!!!

  25. 48/60 - 4.8 SECONDS IS THE GAP NOW!

  26. 47/70 - Lightning reactions from Massa and Hamilton as one goes to the left of the cover and one to the right.

  27. 46/60 - There's some kind of wheel cover lying on the track at the entrance to turn one. It's not from a Ferrari. Who has dropped it?

  28. 45/60 - Massa laps Hamilton... and that helps Alonso get the gap down to 5.6 seconds.

  29. 44/60 - Make that 6.4 as he takes another seven tenths out of the gap.

  30. 43/60 - Coulthard pits from third. Webber and Wurz pass him...BUT THE BMWS SAUBERS DO NOT! He has fifth place.

  31. 43/60 - Alonso is really closing on Massa at the front of the field. He was 11.4 seconds behind when they stopped for the final time but is now, four laps later, only 7.1 seconds behind.

  32. 42/60 - Webber pits from third... AND STAYS AHEAD OF WURZ!!!! That was crucial for the Australian. He is in prime position to finish on the podium.

  33. 42/60 - Now he uses turn one again, just as he did in GP2 last year. This time he clears Barrichello and is up into the top ten.

  34. 41/60 - Hamilton gets by Anthony Davidson for 11th place as the Super Aguri driver pits.

  35. 40/60 - Kubica pits from fifth. He's in a battle with Heidfeld and Coulthard... HE GETS OUT AHEAD OF HIS TEAM-MATE. He is behind Kovalainen, who is now sixth, but maybe has to stop again.

  36. 39/60 - Massa pits from the lead and holds onto it comfortably from the world champion.

  37. 38/60 - Alonso pits from second and resumes the track.

  38. 37/60 - HAMILTON NAILS TRULLI INTO TURN ONE!!!

  39. 37/60 - Hamilton comes back up from 14th to 13th and is only 1.9 seconds shy of Trulli.

  40. 36/60 - WEBBER IS NOW THIRD!!! But he is being hugely pressured by Wurz. Don't count Kovalainen out of the battle either. Remember he's stopped once more than these two.

  41. 35/60 - Raikkonen retires at the entrance to the pit lane. His Nurburgring jinx continues.

  42. 34/60 - Trulli and Hamilton pit from P12 and P13. The Toyota keeps his place.

  43. 34/60 - RAIKKONEN'S CAR HAS A MISFIRE!!!! HE'S SLOWING AT THE MERCEDES ARENA! He's almost at a standstill and will never make it back to the pits. Is it an electrical problem or is he stuck in gear?

  44. 33/60 - Easy does it Lewis. He gets 13th place from Fisichella at the outside of the Hazenbacht Boden. Now he's back in search of Trulli.

  45. 33/60 - Hamilton makes a late move on Fisichella at turn one... not quite there. He gets chopped and can't make the move stick.

  46. 32/60 - Raikkonen is now over two seconds behind Alonso.

  47. 31/60 - Fisichella pits from ninth. That will lose him a spot to his team-mate but ten seconds is definitley enough fuel in his tank to get him to the end of the race. He exits three seconds ahead of Hamilton incidentally.

  48. 30/60 - Oddly though Raikkonen is starting to lose a bit of time to Alonso. He's now almost two seconds behind.

  49. 30/60 - Hamilton only trails Trulli by ten seconds.

  50. 28/60 - Coulthard is still holding up the BMW Saubers of Kubica and Heidfeld, and Fisichella's Renault.

  51. 27/70 - Kovalainen pits from fifth. That drops him to tenth but i wonder if Renault have switched him onto three, or make that four stops strategy. 33 laps to go so he could get to the end but i just wonder if they're trying a crafty one.

  52. 27/70 - If things finish as they are now, Hamilton will see his championship lead cut from 12 points to four by Alonso with Massa and Raikkonen closing in from 19 and 18 points to nine and ten.

  53. 26/60 - HAMILTON DOES THE FASTEST LAP OF THE RACE! He closes in to within 14 seconds of Trulli.

  54. 25/60 - Raikkonen runs very wide through the last corner and cannot avoid putting the left edge of his tyres going onto the wet edge of the kerbs. He doesn't lose any time though.

  55. 24/60 - Kovalainen has closed in on Webber's Red Bull. If Webber finishes where he is he will be taking his best finish since joining Red Bull. Hasn't Kovalainen settled down to some good performances recently though?

  56. 23/60 - It's all go at the front of the field. Just three seconds separate Massa, Alonso and Raikkonen. It's Massa starting to build a lead though.

  57. 22/60 - That's good news for Hamilton. He's up two spots to 14th. That eighth place and a crucial point is getting closer.

  58. 21/60 - Another retirement. It's Takuma Sato this time and he pulls off the track at the pit exit with a mechanical failure.

  59. 20/60 - That was a little naughty from Nick. He was up with the rear corner of Schumacher's Toyota, but Ralf had got it wrong at the chicane and should have guessed an attack was coming.

  60. 19/60 - RALF SCHUMACHER AND NICK HEIDFELD COLLIDE AT THE LAST CORNER! SCHUMACHER IS SPUN INTO THE GRAVEL AND OUT OF THE RACE WHILE HEIDFELD CARRIES ON.

  61. 19/60 - Hamilton, in case you were wondering, is 16th and 28 seconds behind Trulli, but closing in by three seconds a lap.

  62. 19/60 - KOVALAINEN NAILS WURZ FOR FIFTH PLACE AT TURN ONE! Good move.

  63. 18/60 - Another fastest lap for Raikkonen, who is now only 4.3 seconds off the lead and 1.9 behind second place Alonso.

  64. 17/60 - Kovalaien is all over the back of Wurz. His team tell him "Alex is ruining your race. Pass him." If that's not an order I don't know what is.

  65. 16/30 - Raikkonen sets the race's fastest lap and is now only five seconds off the lead of the race.

  66. 15/60 - Winkelhock is out of the race. That's a great performance gone for the debutant gone to pot. It was certainly a mechanical failure.

  67. 15/60 - Start of lap 15 for the leaders. It's Alonso in a Ferrari sandwich at the front. Webber, Wurz, Kovalainen, Coulthard and Schumacher following at a distance.

  68. 14/60 - Coulthard has been majorly shoved back after spending an extra lap on the inters. He's dropped from third to seventh.

  69. 13/60 - Hamilton unlaps himself AS LEADER COULTHARD PITS. HAMILTON ALMOST COLLIDES WITH HIS COUNTRYMAN AS THE RED BULL DRIVER HEADS TOWARDS PIT LANE!

  70. 13/60 - NO!!!! WEBBER GOES WIDE AT THE FIRST CORNER AND RAIKKONEN GLEEFULLY ACCEPTS WHAT WILL BECOME A NET FOURTH PLACE.

  71. 12/60 - Alonso pits. So does Massa. The Brazilian retains the advantage.. and Webber pits too. All are still ahead of Raikkonen.

  72. 12/60 - He gets out behind Trulli's Toyota so he's down to 14th. It could be a masterstroke that brings him into contention though.

  73. 11/60 - Both stay out. That's because sector one is still wet. RAIKKONEN IS INTO THE PITS THOUGH FROM FIFTH! 6.1 seconds ahnd he takes on fuel too.

  74. 11/60 - Massa and Alonso are running away with this. Who will be the first to pit? It could serioisly affect the outcome of the race, that's for sure.

  75. 11/60 - Hamilton sets the best middle sector... and a final one. A few laps more and everyone will be changing tyres to dries.

  76. 10/60 - Ralf Schumacher is on a move too. He's passed Barrichello and Fisichella for eighth.

  77. 10/60 - Raikkonen is monstering the Renault of Kovalainen at the Mercedes Arena as his countryman is held up by Coulthard's Red Bull. He hasn't got time for patience.

  78. 9/60 - Kovalainen is up in the top five but is being challenged by his team-mate Raikkonen who has recovered almost all the positions he lost with his pit-lane balls-up.

  79. 8/60 - HAMILTON SPINS ON HIS DRY TYRES AT THE DUNLOP HAIRPIN! HE IS LAPPED AGAIN! It is just too wet for his tyres.

  80. 8/60 - BOTH RED BULLS COME BY WITH WEBBER LOSING AND THEN RE-TAKING THIRD FROM COULTHARD!

  81. 8/60 - MASSA TAKES THE LEAD AT TURN ONE AND ALONSO ALSO PASSES THE WET-SHOD WINKELHOCK!

  82. 8/60 - We're racing again with Winkelhock leading over the line.

  83. 7/60 - Hamilton is pitting. This could be a masterstroke. He puts on DRY TYRES! He's done a fast lap and thinks there's enough grip.

  84. 7/60 - A new weather forecast says no rain in the next 30 minutes.

  85. 7/60 - Trulli is now pitting to change back onto the intermediate tyres.

  86. 6/60 - Hamilton is unlapping himself as is allowed now under the rules. He overtakes the safety car and will be allowed to re-join the tail of the pack.

  87. 5/60 - Our info from the pits is suggesting that Winkelhock and Trulli are the only two cars left on wet tyres, with the rest, including Nick Heidfeld, who is pitting, on inters.

  88. 5/60 - The orders then is Winkelhock, Massa, Alonso, Webber and Coulthard.

  89. 4/60 - So Winkelhock leads the field around with Massa behind him as the safety car continues for another lap. That's a good idea.

  90. 3/60 - More rain is forecast in 12 minutes but for the moment the track is damp.

  91. 3/60 - Off we go then, the drivers weaving about behind the safety car.

  92. 3/60 - The track is drying quickly as the restart approaches... 40 seconds to go and the covers come off the tyres...

  93. 3/60 - McLaren are saying that Hamilton is NOT a lap down... they are confident on that. The teams are busy preparing their cars with wwet tyres - that is Winkelhock's advanatge gone in this race. Still, he's got first position for now...

  94. 3/60 - The rain has indeed stopped completely and the crews are out in the pitlane, soaking up all the excess water they can. There is a prediction of more rain 12 minutes from now... the start will take place in seven minutes at 13:35 UK time.

  95. 3/60 - The rain has abated and the sun is back out. Those weird July weather conditions in Europe are now affecting our beloved F1 as well as weekend plans!

  96. 3/60 - The cars are reassembling on the track. Hamilton is moved to the back of the grid (17th) as he was a lap behind the others when the red flag came out. The conditions may just have saved his bacon in this race...

  97. 3/60 - Rosberg on his crash: "I drove slowly into the corner, I didn't even brake. The car just lifted on the water and there was no coming back. It is a difficult situation obviously - but we knew that the rain was coming."

  98. 3/60 - After six crashes on the first three laps I don't think anyone can complain about the decision to stop this race.

  99. 3/60 - RED FLAGS. The race is stopped. The weather is just too bad.

  100. 3/60 - Winkelhock pits from the lead. He was on the intermediates but is now changing to wets.

  101. 3/60 - Hamilton's car is being craned away. BUT HE SOMEHOW GETS AWAY FROM THE HOOK AND GETS BACK ON THE TRACK!

  102. 3/60 - Safety car is out.

  103. 3/60 - THERE IS A RIVER AT TURN ONE! THIS IS THE HEAVIEST RAIN SINCE MALAYSIA IN 2001!

  104. 3/60 - LIUZZI CRASHES AS WELL! HE HITS THE TRACTOR THAT HAS GONE INTO THE GRAVEL TO PULL OUT THE OTHER CARS!

  105. 3/60 - ROSBERG GOES OFF AT THE SAME CORNER! SO DOES DAVIDSON, but he keeps going. SCOTT SPEED CRASHES OUT AGAINST THE SAME BARRIER!

  106. 3/60 - SUTIL GOES OFF AT THE SAME CORNER... SO DOES LEWIS HAMILTON!!!!!! THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP LEADER IS OUT!

  107. 2/60 - JENSON BUTTON IS OUT AT TURN ONE!

  108. 2/60 - WINKELHOCK LEADS!!!!!!!!!!!! AMAZING!!! THE ROOKIE IN A SPYKER STARTED THE RACE DEAD LAST BUT IS NOW IN THE LEAD BECAUSE HE STARTED ON WETS!

  109. 1/60 - Massa emerges just infront of Alonso as they exit the pits.

  110. 1/60 - The whole field pits for wets except Raikkonen.

  111. 1/60 - RAIKKONEN MISSES THE CHICANE! He dives for the pits... BUT LEAVES HIS BRAKING TOO LATE AND HAS TO GO BACK ONTO THE TRACK! HE'LL NEED ANOTHER LAP ON DRIES!!!

  112. 1/60 - Coulthard spins off at Valvoline. But gets back on... and Barrichello is off at the Esses too.

  113. 1/60 - The BMW Saubers come together at turn two. Terrible for them... HAMILTON IS INVOLVED. He got up to fourth but looks to have a left rear puncture.

  114. 1/60 - Great start from Raikkonen. Massa tries to go around the outside of him. Alonso is third.

  115. 1/60 - We're racing...

  116. 0/60 - The pit-lane remains empty. Everyone is on dries.... as the rain starts to fall!!! No, one car is in. Markus Winkelhock.

  117. 0/60 - Coming around to the grid then, and it's still definitley dry, so no debat, everyone will start on dry tyres, we think. Let's keep a close eye on the pit lane.

  118. 0/60 - Ah, there's the rain cloud. And it's a biggin. Let's hope the wind blows the other way as the fornation lap gets underway.

  119. 0/60 - Our official weather forecaster is predicting rain in three minutes, and the race is due to start in, you guessed it, three minutes. The skies look pretty blue though.

  120. 0/60 - Sixty laps ahead of the racers then as pole-sitter Kimi Raikkonen, a man who has twice retired from the lead of this race, prepares to lead the field around on the formation lap.

  121. 12:55 - There's no accounting for taste I guess, that's probably why Ricky Gervais and Alan Shearer are off at the Golf instead. If you are that way inclined you can always see LIVE coverage of The Open here at eurosport.yahoo.com as well, but trust me, F1 is far more exciting.

  122. 12:45 - Mika Hakkinen is around too lapping up Mercedes hospitality as a reward for his world titles in 1998 and 1999 no doubt. This track, incidentally, saw one of Mika's best wins in 1998 so he has good memories.

  123. 12:40 - There's not quite the celeb count here that there was at Silverstone, but Quentin Tarantino at least injects some star status on the grid in the shadows of the Dorint Hotel. Boris Becker is milling about as well.

  124. 12:20 - 40 minutes before the race gets underway and we have blue skies in the Eiffel Mountains. Obviously conditions can change here very quickly indded but let's hope things can stay dry.

  125. 12:00 - The race, including Lewis Hamilton following this morning's decision, is due off at 13:00 UK time.

  126. 12:00 - Good afternoon and welcome to LIVE coverage of the European Grand Prix here on eurosport.yahoo.com
