  1. 53/53 - So the championship goes into it's final four races with the championship about as close as it can be. Next up is Belgium next weekend. You won't want to miss that.

  2. 53/53 - Raikkonen, Heidfeld and Kubica come home with Rosberg only just holding off his old GP2 rival for sixth.

  3. 53/53 - ALONSO WINS. THAT'S HIS FOURTH WIN OF 2007 AND WITH HAMILTON SECOND FOR A MCLAREN ONE-TWO THAT REDUCES HIS TEAM-MATE'S CHAMPIONSHIP LEAD TO JUST THREE POINTS.

  4. 52/53 - Alonso streaks over the line to start his last lap.

  5. 51/53 - I wonder if Raikkonen has a problem. He's losing two seconds a lap to Hamilton, but Heidfeld is some 30 seconds back now.

  6. 49/53 - BMW Sauber can be pleased with their weekend. Best of the rest again and they'll finish fourth and fifth.

  7. 47/53 - Things are starting to calm down now with Raikkonen unable to stay with Hamilton, who, don't forget, has tyres that have seen a lot less action than the Brit's.

  8. 45/53 - Kubica is on the recovery road after his earlier pits problem HE SWEEPS AROUND THE OUTSIDE OF ROSBERG AT TURN ONE AND THAT'S SIXTH PLACE FOR THE POLE!

  9. 44/53 - Alonso pits from the lead... and retains the lead. Nice one from the Spaniard and he's on his way to victory now.

  10. 43/53 - HAMILTON BARGES BY RAIKKONEN FOR SECOND PLACE AT THE RETIFILLIO CHICANE. He came from miles back. That was a stupid move from Hamilton and relied upon Raikkonen giving him an extremely wide berth to avoid an ugly collision.

  11. 43/53 - Kovalainen stops from sixth.... AND HE LOSES A PLACE TO THE ONE-STOPPING ROSBERG! He stays ahead of Button, but this is turning out to a great race from the German.

  12. 42/53 - What about Alonso then? He should have enough time in hand to retain his lead, but you never know.

  13. 41/53 - Just 6.3 seconds is the stop. Can he remain in front of Raikkonen... NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! RAIKKONEN ZOOMS BY AS HE COLLECTS SECOND PLACE. Lewis just wasn't quick enough.

  14. 40/53 - McLaren are ready. It's for Hamilton.

  15. 39/53 - Alonso's lead is now six seconds... as Heidfeld pits from fourth.

  16. 38/53 - Hamilton just doesn't look comfortable in the braking zones. Perhaps he's struggling with the low downforce set-up on worn tyres.

  17. 37/53 - Hamilton has slipped to five seconds behind Alonso. At this rate Raikkonen could end up between the two after they stop.

  18. 36/53 - Webber stops, but resumes behind both Rosberg and Button.

  19. 35/53 - Button did not get ahead of Rosberg, so he's looking for eighth place. He will probably have to watch out for Mark Webber though.

  20. 35/53 - Alonso now has that magic 25 seconds over Raikkonen, and that should mean he has enough of a lead to retain first place after his stop.

  21. 34/53 - Button pits from seventh. Can he get back past Rosberg? Not sure actually as it's beyond my view.

  22. 33/53 - Alonso now has a four-second lead over Hamilton. That's not the first time we've seen Lewis drop back during the second stint of the race on hard tyres.

  23. 32/53 - Rosberg drops to 18th with that, but he'll tear up the field once the stops sort themselves out.

  24. 31/53 - Rosberg is the first of the orthadox one-stoppers to pit. Trulli is in too.

  25. 29/53 - Currently Alonso is 16.3 up on Raikkonen and Hamilton 14. I make that a second a lap until their stops and they'll be fine.

  26. 28/53 - Right then, this is the crucial stage of the race. Alonso and Hamilton both appear to need to build a 23 second lead over Raikkonen in time for their final stops on around about lap 37/40.

  27. 26/53 - It just seems to me that he needed to go another three laps and build up another two or three seconds over McLaren before pitting in order to stand any chance of winning.

  28. 25/53 - RAIKKONEN PITS FROM THE LEAD. It's touch and go as to whether this will get him to the end. Hard tyres go on (he started on softs) and it's 11 seconds. That ought to be a one stopper.

  29. 24/53 - The front jack just slipped from underneath the car and he's slipped to tenth, which should be a net sixth place when the stops sort themselves out.

  30. 23/53 - Kubica pits from second. OH NO, BMW SAUBER CANNOT JACK HIS CAR UP. This is costing him bags of time. 17 SECONDS IN TOTAL AND HE EMERGES BEHIND KOVALAINEN, WHO HAS ALREADY MADE HIS FIRST STOP.

  31. 23/53 - Again he flashes by the pits, no activity yet from Ferrari.

  32. 22/53 - Raikkonen goes past the pits. No stop this time. If he is on a one-stopper and has a chance to win then he needs to go beyond lap 26. Ferrari could have pulled off a masterstroke here.

  33. 21/53 - Heidfeld pits from second. He re-joins ahead of Wurz. That puts him tenth.

  34. 21/53 - CHANGE OF PLACE FOR SEVENTH... IS IT?? Rosberg goes around the outside of Button at Retifilio, but Button hangs on. He tries again at the Roggia... THIS TIME HE DOES IT. SEVENTH PLACE FOR ROSBERG.

  35. 21/53 - Erm... no. Alonso comfortably emerges ahead of his team-mate. He is now fifth, behind Raikkonen, Heidfeld, Kubica and Kovalainen.

  36. 20/53 - Alonso pits from the lead. 9.1 seconds is slower than Hamilton. This could be tight....

  37. 20/53 - Still Button is holding off Rosberg, but the Williams driver is just gagging for some clear track during the pit-stops.

  38. 19/53 - Is it Alonso's turn this time? No. That pace he showed in qualifying was even more impressive than we all thought.

  39. 18/53 - It's Hamilton, who has halved the gap to Alonso to a second. Another set of hard tyres and 8.3 seconds is the time. He re-joins sixth, ahead of Button.

  40. 18/53 - McLaren are ready for a pit-stop.

  41. 17/53 - Fisichella is still down in 14th behind Davidson. With his team-mate Kovalainen up in sixth, he's really struggling. Not good with a certain young Mr Piquet waiting to take his seat for next year. Fisi needs to prove he's worth the drive.

  42. 17/53 - Massa's retirement was caused by a problem with the rear end of the car. Ferrari suspect a mechanical rather than electrical problem.

  43. 16/53 - Unless the Ferrari man is one a one-stopper...

  44. 15/53 - Alonso's lead over Hamilton is now 1.4 seconds. Raikkonen is over nine seconds back, but in his spare car remember. No prizes for guessing who has the better pace today.

  45. 13/53 - BUTTON PASSES ROSBERG FOR SEVENTH. Nice move Jenson. He takes advantage as Rosberg leaves his braking too late on the defence at Retifilio.

  46. 12/53 - David Coulthard says his crash was caused by his front wing braking after he hit Fisichella on the first lap.

  47. 11/53 - Well, he may have led more laps than anybody else this year, but Massa is 16 points off the championship lead AND HE IS OUT OF THE RACE! That's his title challenge effectively ruined for the season.

  48. 11/53 - MASSA IS SLOWING DOWN AT LESMO!!!!! He's going to be out of the race very soon indeed.

  49. 10/53 - MASSA PITS FROM THIRD! Was that a scheduled stop? 11.4 seconds seems long and he fits another set of hard tyres. He drops to 16th with that.

  50. 9/53 - Into the Retifilio and the intra-team battle at Spyker sees Yamamoto fail to take 18th off Sutil.

  51. 8/53 - Alonso has already built an advantage of a second over Hamilton.

  52. 7/53 - Jenson Button has come up a place to ninth. He's only one place outside the points.

  53. 6/53 - Fisichella prevents Davidson from passing him at the Roggia chicane by cutting over the rumble strip. Davidson shakes his fist at the Italian.

  54. 6/53 - Alonso sprints away from Hamilton. That's a good getway from both McLarens. HAMILTON SHOWS ALONSO HIS NOSE INTO THE RETIFILIO but remains behind.

  55. 6/53 - We're racing again..........

  56. 5/53 - Safety car is in at the end of this lap.

  57. 5/53 - Of course Ferrari too will be able to go further, but their carefully worked race strategy will probably not have taken into account a slow-speed section of the race.

  58. 5/53 - This period could work in McLaren's favour. If Ferrari were heavier on fuel at the start then this will limit the advantage they could potentially have because of it, as McLaren will be able to go further into the race before stopping.

  59. 5/53 - Nobody is bothering to stop, although the pit-lane is open as two laps have been completed under the safety car.

  60. 4/53 - The on-board shot from Massa's Ferrari shows that it was he who tapped Hamilton at turn one, not Alonso. That was why he cut the chicane. It was not Lewis' fault at all.

  61. 3/53 - Alonso slows up and lets the safety car go to the head of the pack.

  62. 3/53 - The safety car is out while the marshals clear up the wreckage... BUT IT'S COME OUT BEHIND THE LEADERS.

  63. 2/53 - BIG CRASH FOR DAVID COULTHARD!!!! Into the barriers at high speed at Curva Grande. Something flew off his Red Bull, possibly a rear wing, and plunged him off the track and into the tyre barrier.

  64. 2/53 - Hamilton cut the chicane to keep second and tapped Alonso slightly. Will be be penalised for that?

  65. 2/53 - Alonso, Hamilton, Massa, Raikkonen, Heidfeld, Kubica, Kovalainen, Rosberg is the order over the line for the first time.

  66. 1/53 - GREAT START ALONSO....HAMILTON IS BEATEN OFF THE LINE BY MASSA.. RAIKKONEN UP PAST HEIDFELD. But Hamilton brakes latest and retains second at the Retifilio.

  67. 1/53 - We're off!!!!!!!!!

  68. 0/53 - Hamilton's McLaren is aimed at Alonso's...

  69. 0/53 - The heat is rising... and so are the revs on the grid.....

  70. 0/53 - The drivers set off on their formation lap.

  71. 12:55 - The grid is finally being cleared with five minutes to go before the start of the race. Fernando Alonso on pole for the second time this year and the first time at Monza, Lewis Hamilton alongside him and McLaren looking invincible.

  72. 12:00 - We'll be underway for the first of 53 laps at 13:00 UK time.
