  10. 66/71 - Rosberg has a go at Kubica for fourth.... Kubica just about holds on at the Senna S with Rosberg on the outside.

  11. 65/71 - Raikkonen sets the fastest lap of the race. He's still risking it, and, depending on who you support, that's a good or bad thing.

  12. 64/71 - Trulli pits from seventh. His Toyota's right-front tyre had a vibration. That's Hamilton up another place.

  13. 63/71 - Championship positions: Raikkonen 110, Alonso 109, Hamilton 108. It's that close.

  14. 61/71 - Hamilton is the fastest man on the track. A 22 second gap to Trulli is now 19 seconds with ten to go.

  15. 60/71 - Rosberg goes for Heidfeld's fourth... THEY BANG WHEELS AND BOTH SLIDE WIDE AND KUBICA IS BACK UP TO FOURTH!!! Trulli can't get by, but if that had ended in tears, then Hamilton would suddenly have been in a position to be champion again. How tense do you like it?

  16. 59/71 - HAMILTON BREEZES BY COULTHARD HALFWAY DOWN THE PIT STRAIGHT!!!! That's eighth and that leaves him with three places to make up and 12 laps to do it.

  17. 58/71 - Kubica is also on a three-stopper. He pits from third place for 5.4 seconds. That puts Alonso back up to third, but that is not enough for him to win the title.

  18. 57/71 - He only loses one place, dropping behind Coulthard to ninth, but realistically, that's the title over.

  19. 57/71 - HAMILTON PITS AGAIN!!!! HE DID NEED MORE FUEL. Well, if he had a chance before, a 5.4 second stop will leave him needing a miracle.

  20. 57/71 - Right then, the pressure is on Hamilton. He's two seconds behind Trulli and needs to pass him for seventh. If he does that, then could they ask Alonso to drop behind him to ensure he finsihes sixth and takes the title? They can ask, but I doubt he'll agree.

  21. 56/71 - Rosberg pits from fourth place in what has been a brilliant drive from him.. HE EXITS SIXTH!!! THAT'S AHEAD OF HAMILTON AND TRULLI!!!

  22. 55/71 - So the championship order right now is: Raikkonen 110, Hamilton 108 and Alonso 107. This race is pulling me from pillar to post on an almost lap-by-lap basis.

  23. 54/71 - RAIKKONEN WOULD BE WORLD CHAMPION IF THE RACE WERE TO END NO!!!! Alonso came out behind Kubica and Rosberg and Hamilton is still eighth.

  24. 53/71 - RAIKKONEN PITS FROM THE LEAD. 6.1 seconds.... AND HE EXITS IN FRONT OF MASSA!!!! THE FERRARI PLAN WORKS TO PERFECTION!!!!!!!!!!!

  26. 51/71 - He's out ahead of Hamilton and Trulli!!! That's big.

  27. 51/71 - Heidfeld pits. 6.6 seconds from fifth place, and it's pretty crucial where he comes out in relation to Hamilton. After all, we're not sure if Lewis has to stop again......

  28. 51/71 - Raikkonen goes by the pit-entrance. It's his time to put in a series of stunning laps now in a bid to wrest the lead. That, if he can do it with Alonso third and Hamilton eighth, would make him champion.

  29. 50/71 - Massa pits for his crucial final stop from the lead. 7.4 seconds is a nice stop. He drops to third, behind Alonso, but in traffic. The synic in me says this will help him slow down and Raikkonen pass him.

  30. 49/71 - Hamilton is taking about three tenths of a second a lap out of Trulli at the moment and is down to six seconds behind the Toyota driver. He needs to get a move on though.

  31. 48/71 - If things finished as they are now, Alonso would be champion for the third time, one point ahead of Raikkonen and the same margin up on Hamilton. Of course, we're sure Ferrari will somehow get Raikkonen ahead of Massa...

  32. 47/71 - The Ferraris are now separated by just over a second.

  33. 46/71 - HAMITON IS INTO THE POINTS!!!! He has vaulted ahead of Coulthard after the Scot made his final pit-stop. He still needs fifth place though to make certain of the title. Can he do it? Stay right here for the next 25 laps to find out.

  34. 45/71 - MASSA MAKES A MAJOR ERROR INTO THE MERGHULO!!! HE GETS HIS FERRARI SIDEWAYS AND SLEWS ALL OVER THE KERBS ON THE EXIT!!!! RAIKKONEN IS NOW WITHIN A SECOND OF HIM!!!

  35. 44/71 - Good news from Williams. Nobody was seriously injured in the Nakajima incident.

  36. 43/71 - Hamilton is still charging. He is 22.5 seconds behind eighth place Coulthard and still needs to make it into fifth place.

  37. 42/71 - BARRICHELLO IS OUT!!! HIS HONDA GOES UP IN A BALL OF FLAMES. What a sad end to his season. 15 years in F1 and this is the first time he'll get through a whole season without a point.

  38. 41/71 - Speaking of Kubica, he locks up at the Senna S trying to pass Rosberg for sixth. That will lose him over a second in his battle with Alonso.

  39. 40/71 - A crucial time for Alonso this. He needs to make as much time as possible to try and get back by Kubica.

  40. 39/71 - Kubica pits and is down from third to seventh. THAT IS HUGE. IT ALLOWS ALONSO INTO THIRD AND MEANS HE IS NOW BACK IN A POSITION THAT WOULD MAKE HIM WORLD CHAMPION!!!

  41. 38/71 - It looks like the crash will be covered with waved yellows. No need for a safety car, which would be potentially disastrous for Hamilton, who's just been lapped.

  42. 37/71 - BIG CRASH FOR KOVALAINEN AT CURVA DU SOL!!! A big impact with the tyres.

  43. 36/71 - HAMILTON IS IN THE PITS AGAIN. He goes back on to hard tyres. 6.5 seconds and that's his spell on the softs done with. He's been lapped now and is down to 14th.

  44. 35/71 - Vettel is out. A mechanical problem for the Toro Rosso man.

  45. 34/71 - Raikkonen has chopped Massa's lead to 2.4 seconds. He is doing exactly what he needs to right now.

  46. 33/71 - Schumacher pits from ninth, so Hamilton inherits that place. He's now got ten seconds to catch up on David Coulthard, the final man in the points.

  47. 32/71 - HAMILTON, MEANWHILE, IS MAKING UP GROUND AND GOES BY LIUZZI FOR TENTH INTO THE SUBITA DU LAGO!!!!

  48. 32/71 - KUBICA TAKES ALONSO FOR THIRD!!!!! THAT COULD BE CRUCIAL. THAT MOVE WOULD, AS THE RACE STANDS, GIVE THE TITLE TO RAIKKONEN!!!

  50. 31/71 - OH MY GOODNESS!!! NAKAJIMA STEAMS IN TO THE WILLIAMS GARAGE AND KNOCKS HIS FRONT WHEEL MAN FLYING!!! He's up, but he'll need an ice pack on that leg methinks. I hope he's okay.

  51. 31/71 - If the race ended now the positions would be like this: 1. Alonso 109, 2. Raikkonen 108, 3. Hamilton 107, so Alonso would be champion. But if Massa let his team-mate by then it would be Raikkonen who claimed the title. It's on a knife-edge.

  52. 30/71 - Here's a turn-up. Kubica has taken three seconds out of Alonso in the last seven laps. He's right on the world champion's tail now. Could he be a player in the world title shake up?

  53. 29/71 - HAMILTON DIVES BY BARRICHELLO INTO TURN ONE!!!! THAT WAS A DESPERATE MOVE. ACTUALLY QUITE A STUPID ONE!!! Rubens was already mid-corner when Lewis steamed by, wheels locked. A less experienced driver would not have got out of the way. 12th place.

  54. 28/71 - Rosberg locks up at turn one, and Coulthard in eighth right behind him, almost runs into the back of him.

  55. 28/71 - Raikkonen gets very wide on the kerbs exiting the Subita du Lago. He needs to get onto Massa's tail if he wants any help from his team later on.

  56. 27/71 - Hamilton is now 13th, and behind Barrichello, but the Brazilian has yet to stop.

  57. 26/71 - That's helped Raikkonen close in to 3.2 seconds behind Massa. The Brazilian lost 2.2 seconds on that lap.

  58. 25/71 - Davidson goes off again!!! Well done Anthony.

  59. 25/71 - Davidson spin-turns... AND DECIDES TO BLOCK MASSA RIGHT ON THE LINE INTO THE EXIT OF SENNA S. What an idiot. Finally he gets out of the way.

  60. 25/71 - SUTIL AND DAVIDSON COLLIDE AT TURN ONE!!!! That was Sutil's fault. He is out on the spot.

  61. 24/71 - Rosberg and Coulthard stop from fourth and fifth and retain their places ahead of Trulli, who stopped last time with Hamilton.

  62. 23/71 - Hamilton stops. He changes to soft tyres and exits after 5.8 seconds. Game on.

  63. 22/71 - BUTTON IS OUT!!!!!!!!!!! Maybe he'll set light to that Honda now. He's lost all drive. Good news for Hamilton. He's up to tenth now.

  64. 22/71 - Alonso pits from the temporary lead. 8.7 seconds gets him out still ahead of Hamilton. He's sixth, behind Coulthard.

  65. 21/71 - Button just took eight tenths out of Button and is now only five seconds behind.

  66. 21/71 - Raikkonen is in from the lead. Can he pass Massa here? Do Ferrari want him to yet? 9.1 seconds is much longer... and Massa is through. Raikkonen is third and Alonso now leads.

  67. 20/71 - Massa pits from the lead. 6.8 seconds and he's back out in third, ahead of Heidfeld.

  68. 19/71 - Kubica pits from fourth place in his BMW Sauber. He gets out ahead of Hamilton.

  69. 19/71 - Almost unnoticed, Massa, Raikkonen and Alonso carry on their serene way.

  70. 18/17 - Button crosses the line tenth, 6.9 seconds ahead of Hamilton.

  71. 17/71 - HAMILTON IS BY!!!!!! SLICES BY INTO SUBITA DU LAGO!!! To be fair, it looked like Nakajima let him by. Maybe Williams got on the radio and told him to do that. Anyhoo, that's 11th!

  72. 16/71 - HAMILTON NAILS TAKUMA SATO FOR 12TH INTO THE SENNA S. That's his perferred passing spot for sure. What a recovery drive this is.

  73. 15/71 - Hamilton is up to 12th as a result.

  74. 15/71 - WEBBER IS OUT FROM FIFTH PLACE!!!! LOOKS LIKE A MECHANICAL PROBLEM FOR THE RED BULL ACE!!!

  75. 15/71 - Good move from Hamilton on Schumacher. P15 into turn four... AND HE ZOOMS BY DAVIDSON BEFORE THE NEXT TURN.. P14. This is reminisent of his GP2 drive in Turkey last year.

  76. 14/71 - Hamilton is closing right onto Ralf Schumacher's tail. Kovalainen, who is being lapped, lets him through, and has delayed Schumacher somewhat. A 3.9 second gap became 2.6 and is now 1.2 over the line.

  77. 13/71 - Currently he's 30 seconds off Webber's fifth. With 60 laps left that's half a second a lap. He can do it alright.

  78. 12/71 - EASILY DONE. Hamilton takes Sutil at the Senna S and he's now 16th. At the moment he needs fifth place for the world title

  79. 11/71 - Hamilton makes up one place. He gets Barrichello for 17th at turn one. Next on his list is Adrian Sutil, his old F3 team-mate, two seconds up the road.

  80. 10/71 - Liuzzi is lapped by leader Massa, and the Ferraris are looking invincible at the front.

  81. 10/71 - Hamilton has just done a personal best middle sector. Nothing wrong with his car any more. A mystery problem. And he does the third quickest lap of the race.

  82. 9/71 - WHAT WENT WRONG THERE???? He's running fine now, but he's dropped all the way back to 18th!!!!! 18TH!!!!!

  83. 8/71 - HAMILTON IS SLOWING!!!!!!!!!! MECHANICAL PROBLEM!!!! IS HIS TITLE DREAM IN TATTERS????????

  84. 8/71 - One BMW Sauber loses a place and another gains one as Kubica makes a neat move down the inside of Webber for fourth.

  85. 7/71 - HEIDFELD SLIDES WIDE, MISSING THE APEX AT THE ENTRANCE TO THE SENNA S AND HAMILTON IS THROUGH TO SIXTH!!!!

  86. 6/71 - Hamilton is right in Heidfeld's slipstream as they climb up to the finisgh line. Can he make a move??? No.

  87. 5/71 - Renault tried to fix Fisichella's car, but the Italian is now out of the race with damage from the accident.

  88. 4/71 - Hamilton is right on Heidfeld's tail. The German is very slow through Subita du Lago.... AND HAMILTON HAS TO GO WIDE ONTO THE KERBS TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT!!!!!!! Dramatic stuff from Lewis.

  89. 3/71 - Yamamoto is in the pits and out of the race.

  90. 3/71 - Yellow flags are out but no safety car.

  91. 2/72 - BIG CRASH AT CURVA DU SOL!!!! Fisichella went wide across the grass at the Senna S, came back on and got rammed heavily by Yamamoto!!!

  92. 2/72 - Hamilton gets a place back. He's past Trulli and into seventh. Stop things now and he will still be champion.

  93. 1/71 - Over the line and it's Massa from Raikkonen and Alonso at the front.

  94. 1/71 - Hamilton has a go back at Alonso into turn three... BUT HE BRAKES TOO LATE AND GOES WIDE!!!! HE'S LOST A SHEDLOAD OF PLACES AND IS DOWN TO EIGHTH!!!! OH LEWIS!!!!!

  95. 1/71 - GREAT START FROM MASSA!!!! RAIKKONEN COMES AROUND THE OUTSIDE OF HIM AND TAKES SECOND!!!! ALONSO GETS HAMILTON TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  97. 0/71 - Onto the grid then. Massa arrives a fair time ahead of Hamilton, he'll be sitting on the grid longer than he wants.

  98. 0/71 - The formation lap gets underway... Hamilton is safely away. No stalling.

  99. 16:55 - Jenson Button has been moaning about the rubbishness of his Honda all year. His mechanics have strapped a cigarette lighter into the cockpit and told Button he's welcome to burn the car to the ground after the race.

  100. 16:52 - An excellent fifth on the grid is Mark Webber. He sais he won't interfere with the title fight, and I have my doubts as to whether he'll be able to keep ahead of the BMW Saubers behind him.

  101. 16:50 - Adrian Sutil starts from the pit lane after a problem with getting his Spyker away.

  102. 16:45 - Bernie Ecclestone stirs things up on the grid saying he wants Fernando Alonso to win the title. Oh the little scamp!

  103. 16:42 - There's a question of the weather it seems. Thunderstorms are forecast for later in the day, but with clear blue skies prevailing at the moment, it looks unlikely.

  104. 16:37 - Time is ticking down. Hamilton stops his McLaren in his grid spot and will now get out. The start of the 71-lap race edges ever closer.

  105. 16:35 - Ferrari have Felipe Massa on pole, and will try to get him to help out Raikkonen today.

  106. 16:30 - With half an hour to go before the start of the race, let's look at how the championship looks. It's Hamilton four points ahead of Fernando Alonso and seven ahead of Raikkonen in his quest to become F1's first rookie champion.
