Did England deserve to win against Paraguay? Was Sven right to brig on Hargreaves? How did the refereeing affect the game?

Sorry has the world cup started? Can you please tell England if it has. What a lack luster performance and we only won on a lucky goal otherwise it would have been a very sad draw. Did our so called manager get of the bench and yes the ref was bad but still not and excuse.

I dont totally agree with everything you are saying. Sven doesnt need to do a barry fry and when we score he runs up and down the touchline cheering. He has brought the best squad into this world cup and the problem is rverybody expects us to go ut there and win 3-0 everytime which just doesnt happen anymore in international football so instead of having a go at the guys and the boss lets get behind them.

I have to take my hat off to those who roll out the old cliches such as 'a win is a win', and 'we will take the three points'. Those old chestnuts might be valid at this stage, but what hope is there for the team that looked a million miles less likely to do well than Lineker's teams of late 80s and 90. Overrated, confused, no direction, and prone to disastrous howlers at any time. same old England big tournament story. All image, luxury hotels and no balls when it counts.

yeah i aggree the performance wasnt great, im not sure you can say that the goal was lucky, it was a perfect delivery from beckham very hard to defend, but this is england we always start off poor we did in japan and portugal but i would imagine weve seen the last of yesterdays performance and i just hope sven (who has been amazing in the past) gets his head screwed back on for the rest of tournament because his tactics on saturday where appalling

I have watch all of the world cup games so far and I have to say that England rated at the bottom of the 10 teams in action so far. Teams like Ivory Coast, Costa Rica, Trinidad and Ecuador have played with more pride, passion and determination than we have. They have showed this dying football super power of a country how to play with pride, if we play like we did in the second half we do not deserve to progress to the next phase of the competition. Ok the ref was terrible, it was very warm and we were handicapped by Hargreaves coming on. SO WHAT!!!! England need to stand up and be counted stop moaning and play with pride and passion for 90mins not 45, we have a squad of world class players the excuses for our team should stop now!!!!

I agree with everything you have written and would say this teams fitness levels are the weakest of any team that has played so far. They got away with it against paraguay, but they wont against the better teams who will just sit back in the first half and murder them in the second. Never mind about the manager!!! what about the staff whos job it is to get them fit???? The sad thing is one of them is the next manager!!!! Anyway shouldnt the players take responsebility for their fitness levels as well. I think Ive lost my bet Ladbrooks.

I think they started playing really well but when the Ref started blowing the whistle at every thing anyone did . we got too scared to play competitivly . at one point it looked like the ref was about to start dishing out cards to us just for passing the ball around and keeping it from the Paruguans. lol If it wasnt for that Shunt ref and the extreme heat we would have done them maybe 4 - 0.

        At least we won

Why was Crouch even playing? Everytime he touched the ball he screwed up. Surely we have better players than that and hopefully we won't have to see him screw up again

I TOTALY AGREE.the main problem of the game was that the referee stopped the moves before they happened.peter crouch is very tall and awkward and the ref penalised him every time he won the ball fairly.some one that tall will fall on a player after winning the ball but thats not a foul.i knew this would happen with refs, they havent a clue how tohandle crouchy.i say drop him and the goals and movements will come

England did not win.......it was just unfortunate for paraguay that they scored an own goal, how can England claim a win?????
I suppose the glory will point to `beckhmas` free kick.
who cares anyway?..... a bunch of overpaid wallies kicking a bag of wind around the garden for 90 minutes.

Hargreaves should never be in the squad. If Sven wants to bolster the midfield then why not bring on carrick or carragher? However the tactics weren't all bad, firing the ball up to crouch is a good get out, except for when you have a referee who constantly gives free kicks against him when he is being pushed and pulled. The same happened against portugal in euro2004. When vassell came on for Rooney and the ball was being punted up to him and owen to relieve the pressure, every time they won the ball they were penalised.
Hopefully Sven can learn from these mistakes(not likely) and put a bit of pace up front for the counter attacks when we are under pressure. We proved yesterday that our defence is solid and I believe that Rio and JT can absorb anything any team has got, we just need an outlet to catch them on the break. Surely thats why he bought Walcott?

Anyway yesterday is done and I expected us to play well but only get a point, but a below par performance and all three points is much better, that was the result that guarantees our qualification, we just need to get top spot.
