A list of any missed out/ turned down player for Everton

Does anyone know of any big name players who were turned down or missed out by Everton.
I know Cristiano Ronaldo truned down Liverpool too little wages, Shevchenko had West Ham trial and they thought he was not good enough, Arsenal F.C. & Ipswich Town turned down Ruud Gullit and that the Sheffield United manager in the 1970's, wanted Diego Maradona but the board said no and they bought Alejandro Sabella (current Argentina manager).
So who have Everton turned down or missed out on and why?
Any thoughts welcome.
