    Been visiting the Scousers board to see what the "Overrated" supporters are on about.

    Alot of envey is being written by desperate people trying to make themselves feel better by slating one of the/if not best players to grace our shores for many decades.

    To say that Rooney is "Overrated" is the ultimate understatement.

    I think some people have their wires crossed. "High expectation" is the appropriate word concerning Rooney, not "Overrated".

    To think that he's "Overrated" is laughable. Anyone who know's football will honestly say that the lad is something special.

    He's growing into a fine, fine footballer and I might not be the first to think that this will be his best ever season in the top flight.

    I challenge ALL that think this young lad isn't going to shove those words of "Overrated" back down the throats of the clueless doubters that pester these forums.

    PS: If i forget, can someone dig this thread out at the end of the coming season to rectify my point.

      Newcastle has not one a single trophy in how many years? How you could possibly rank them as one of the top four clubs in the country is beyond me.

      Shearer showed that he was scared of the prospect of becoming a medium sized fish in a big pond by repeatedly turning down a move to a club with sustainable title prospects.

      stash, I really do think it is the comments from mancs that make people think Rooney is overrated. Apart from the great performance a while back in the euro championships, he's never really repeated it at the top level. Crouch has done better at the international level. In fact I think Crouch is more of a natural striker than Rooney!

      I personally think he's had his time to prove himself and everyone should realise that he is good but no that good!

      The scousers on here using these message boards are here for one perpose and one perpose only,to slag off everything utd.
      Most scouse threads are either deluded optiministic rubbish about being the biggest club,going to have the biggest stadium,and what there going to do next season,Or just pain stupid.The Overrated comments about Rooney fall into the later catagory.
      Wayne Rooney is, in my opinion The Best British born player in the world today.He was the best 17 year old ive ever seen,is WORLD CLASS and may in future years be regarded alongside George Best as the best ever British born footballer.So High Expectations YES,Overrated NO.

        As a liverpool supporter myself i think the truth (like most topics on here) lies in the middle. No rooney is not rubbish , he would get in any premierleague team in the country (though not neccesarily starting every game), but to call him the best ever british born footballer is ludicrous. Yes he did look amazing at 17 and we all though he was going to take the world by storm , but he didnt, he has all grown up now and is no amazing revelation, plus his international score rate is abysmal. In terms of great english strikers he has never (and probably never will now) hit the same quality and form as Michael Owen, Robbie Fowler, and Alan Shearer did in their peaks. I know you will obviously scoff at this as you still consider him better than marradonna but just compare the stats of a young Robbie Fowler to a Rooney, there is no argument. So you say he is the greatest ever english footballer and theres three better english STRIKERS from the SAME GENERATION. This is without even mentioning players from earlier generations such as Dalgliesh or current players of different positions such as Gerrard and Joe Cole.
        Rooney sells football shirts and obtains sponsership deals for the club, so it is no wonder that your manager always bigs him up as one of the greatest football players in the world, and it is not surprising that fans like you buy in to this hype.
