The Times claims that Silvestre is wanted by arsenal, sunderland and city and that he is likely to opt for the gunners in one of the surprise transfers of pre-season. The paper also claims that utd have accepted arsenal`s bid.

I wouldn't blame any club for wanting him. The guy's a model professional, a great defender, and decent going forward. Don't understand some of the stick he's got from united fans over the years. He's not as consistent as, say Evra or Ferdinand, buthe's had many, many more good games than bad.
Good luck to him, wherever he goes, even if it is Arsenal.- View Replies

He has been a good player for us, but I certainly couldn't say he was a great defender: too many mis-timed tackles, and I lost count of the number of times that he misjudged the ball in the air and let it loop over him. Still, as I say he was a good servant.

Well if that proves to be the case, I wish him all the best.

The fee is supposedly 750,000, so if it is true that the Glazers only gave SAF 20M (yeah, whatever did happen to that promise of 50M every summer regardless of incoming transfer money?), the extra cash from this deal and the sales of Pique and Eagles might give us enough to buy Berbatov if Spurs sell at the 25M that is now being touted. Also we get Silvestre off the wage bill as I presume as a French international he is probably on somewhere in the region of 50 Grand a week (although he will probably have to take a wage cut at Arsenal, although given his age they might just need a babysitter for Gallas!)....

Silvestre is no longer even guaranteed a place on the subs bench let alone a place in utd`s first team. With a number of young defenders such as Evans and the da Silva twins knocking on the door of the first team it makes sense for utd to offload a player who bar an injury crisis of mega proportions is unlikely to feature in many games. And if utd were desperate for funds they would be asking for more than 750,000 for an ex-international who can play both centre half and left back and still has more than two years left on his contract. Its also about being fair to the player - utd aren`t the sort of team who like to leave good players rotting in the reserves when they could get first team football elsewhere. And its says a lot about the relative strenghts of the two squads if a player who can`t get on to the bench for utd could if press reports are correct hold down a regular place in the arsenal team.

US money may be shady, but the vast majority of Russian money is dirty, and no decent company in London will deal with them because of it. Most of the billions accumulated from the privatisation of industries in Russia has been stashed away in banks outside of the EU. Soley to avoid massive tax bills. They are all dodgy fv<kers.
Kroenke is a straight up guy compared to Jabba. Even if he does use some of the equity from his businesses, at the levels you are talking about it wouldn't put them under any serious financial threat.
I have helped commercial deals to be done in London using 70% Senior Debt Finance, 10% Mezzanine Finance & 15% Private Equity Investors. Only 5% of the persons own money was used. Until this year, this was common place.
