Manchester United Message Board
Given what we all know that we haven't exactly played with our usual standard and still appear to be comfortable at the top, city appear to have got an almost comfortable 3rd (yuk) is the league stromger ie better competition or weak as in veryone from newcastle down, with a bad run could get relegated.I am leaning towards calling it a weaker league this season but still undecided, whats your opinions and why ?
United has plenty of cover.
Our oldies are Giggs, VDS, Scholes and Neville.
Neville has all but retired now and we have Rafael/O'Shea/De Laet.
We have cover for VDS.
Scholes hardly plays but we will miss him and is the one position we should cover; probably will in summer.
Giggs is irreplaceable.
I think Chelsea are in a much worse postion because your replacements seem inadequate. And now wonder kid Kakuta has gone on loan - what's that all about?
It probably is.
Now I remember reading a while back that the first law of good football management is to stagger your player retirements so that you don't lose a lot of your important players at once. I can't remember whether this was said by Fergie, Shankly or Cloughie. Whichever, both United and Chelsea seem to have a lot of oldies coming up for retirement. Is this bad management?
Weaker. Mainly due to the dull games. The style of play frequently used in the WC has been adopted here in the PL... unadventurous style where not conceeding is more of a plan than playing adventurous, attacking football.
There may be new players coming in like Hernandez, v d Vaart and Silva but that doesn't mean teams are playing brilliantly.
My argument is a bit off on a tangent but my instinct is that the league is weaker.

its the weakest iv ever seen it.
u only have to look at the fact utd are top & are going to stroll to the league despite not only it being there weakest team for a while BUT also without playing anywhere their best.
the standard of the top teams in the premiership have dropped.
chelsea are a lot worse too.
& dont forget liverpool are a mess as well.
i dont know how u can say its all down to the other teams improving.
utd & chelsea have declined this yr regardless of how improved the rest of the league is.

whilst not really wanting to pick a fight with you Ian(whichever one you are I can't be bothered keeping up with it) But in times gone bye we had a few more people we could call class players in the top flight and pretty well spread throughout the league so spouting a few names at it, isn't really a good arguement. However a good reasoned approach would be appreciated.
As I said in the intro I;m not sure whether its down to better competition making harder for top sides to play, but my instict is it has to have droipped for us to be in such a commanding position after how poorly we have played prior to a couple of games ago, not to mention the players that have left for foriegn climes over the last couple of years
stronger - because not only have the CL teams brought in quality players but so have the teams below them. Also one of the big changes that has made is that more of the teams in the bottom half of the table are prepared to give it a go when they go to stadiums like OT, the Emirates and Stamford Bridge. That is probably the main reason why the big clubs are dropping more points.
