Looks like we may be about to sign Owen on a Freebie, although he's earning around £55K a week! (Nice work if you can get it).

He's either going to flop or its just what he needs to get his career back on track.

I'm hoping for the latter, certainly for a freebie, you certainly wouldn't turn him down.

He's reported to be on 124 grand per week at Newcastle. Might be able to do part -time job for Villa if they can gets his wage down from a less obscene level.

Owen still has a good goals per game ratio (something like 30 in 70 games), the problem is that has taken 4 years and there lies the problem. A fit Micheal Owen would be an asset, unfit a liability. I remember this sort of debate before Paul McGrath turned up so MON and his team need to make a leap of faith. Personally I think it is worth the gamble, but as I failed 'O' Level clairvoyancy it really would be a gamble.

May I give my view from the depth's of Bordesley Green?

With Owen, you would be getting a thoroughbred, albeit, one that needs to be nurtured through unfortunate injuries, but one with a nose for goal when anywhere near the penalty area.

With Heskey, you got and were alway's going to get a carthorse, with a distinct nose for the turf when anywhere near the peanalty area.

        massive difference for me.
I say sign Owen, at least he knows the way to goal, comparison with Paul Grath is spot on. !

      Which Owen?

If you're talking about Michael Owen, current Newcastle striker, the guy is on over £100k per week.

There's no way he's going to take a £50k weekly pay cut unless he's out of contract with the magpies.

        Hi slayer...

I agree, but Owen is out of contract, and has the reutation of being a sicknote now....he isn't going to get any younger (obviously)...and to get a top 10 team to take a risk is something he will have to take into consideration...unles he wants to continue getting slinters in his bum.

Owen is out of contract I believe...so he can negotiate his own signing on fee...which will no doubt take into account the samall drop in wages.

Such a shame to see his career just stall. I still recall that wonder goal against Argentina he scored in 1998 when he burst into the national team as an 18 year old. I thought he was going to become a legend. He was treated shamefully by Real Madrid, where, ironically, he returned the best goals per minute ratio of his entire career. A pity that he burnt out at 27!! Perhaps you have something there, Alex, with your theory on Wenger/Walcott.
