Tottenham Hotspur Message Board
It was clear that after last saturday's result against Boro we need someone to play up front with Darren Bent in a classic 4-4-2 formation.
It looks increasingly likely that we'll end up missing out on Arshavin as we can't agree a fee with Zenit. So what other options do we have left?
I heard it on the grapevine that we are going for Diego Forlan ( he was s**t when he was at Manure ).
If Ramos isn't going to use Pekhart any time soon then we definitely need a 3rd striker before the end of the transfer window - even if Berba stays (at least until January) - but what we don't want is a situation like we had with Defoe, eg. proven striker left warming the bench. BIG mistake to let him high-tail it to Pompey in order to get regular first team footie.
I reckon Forlan would be a good buy for us. He's a proven goalscorer in Spain following his disastrous time at Manure, and the big plus with him is he knows the Premiership so should fit in easily. However, I don't think he wants a move away from Spain unless things have changed from earlier in the season - as I understand it Roy Keane tried to sign him for Sunderland but he said no.
I'm so glad we're not pursuing Arshavin any more - I always feel it's a dodgy decision to buy a player on the strength of a few Euro/World Cup performances, especially one nobody had heard of before Euro 2008, though there have been a few exceptions (Milan Baros for one with Liverpool).
The trouble is we've been linked to virtually every player and his granny recently and frankly I can't see anyone wanting to come to us who is really good as they'll likely all want Champions League football not UEFA Cup.
Mind you, all this would be irrelevant if Robbie hadn't jumped ship to the Scousers!
