I think we have the squad to cope with European demands - as I listed off in a previous topic, there are about 8 or 9 midfielders I'd be happy to have starting for us, we've got 3 strong strikers (I'm trying to stop Bent-bashing so have included him) and are on the lookout for another, defence could use a bit of building but we have 3 good CBs, 1 RB/CB, 2 RBs, & 2 LBs.
That's not including players coming through the ranks, and Redknapp's made a point of getting involved on all levels and bringing them in where/when possible, so there'll be development there over the next 6-12 months.
If we drop out of Europe now we'll lose players. Maybe not many, maybe not key players, but some will go. Which means that if we battle our way through and get into Europe via the league because of the smaller number of games we'll be back to square one and having to start building the squad all over again. I'm not saying this won't happen, but I don't think it's a positive move.
Also, I like not having many Saturday games - it means we're far more likely to be televised!
I think we can take MU in the final, we've been close to beating them every match for the last 3 years, and it's gonna be far more important for us than them. Their 'kids' are going to want it a lot more than their senior squad, but when we feel like putting on a show we can beat anyone, so let's hope the right team turn up on 1st March.
On the subject of the ManU game although Fergie may well play some kids you can bet he will have the 'A' team on the bench just in case. He's not as arrogant as Ar5ene so wont stick with a losing side just coz he said he would! Hes a canny old jock who gives NOTHING away if he can help it.
Thats not to say we cant beat their A team on our day...it will be an exciting final I reckon........but dont look for any favours from ol beetroot head. If we dare to go ahead he will bring on the cavalry soon enough.
