yeh fantastic player.....ironically exactly a week before he was killed i was doing the same thing....sheltering under a tree in richmond park golf course with a full set of golf clubs in pouring rain, thunder and lightning....he did it and was struck by lightning.....tragedy....he was very very special.....life is cruel
he would have been one of the all time greats....the sunday express did a special report on him....
Wasn't his nickname The Ghost for the way he moved around the pitch and would seem to just appear then disappear - but always be in the right place at the right time?
I think one of the last times I saw him play was against Man Utd, December 3, 1963 in the European Cup WInners Cup (we won 2-0 with goals from Mackay and Dyson) - #7-11 were Cliff Jones, John White, Boby Smith, Jimmy Greaves, and Terry Dyson - what a great front line! Of course, Utd had Quixall, Nobby Stiles, David Herd, Dennis Law, and Bobby Charlton - which wasn't too shabby either!
It was a different time, and perhaps while the game was not as intellectual and technical as it is today, there's no doubt that the game was played with more passion and dedication and sense of team and club - and perhaps with more sportsmanship.
I'll take 2-0 in our next game with Utd!

Hi old fan...
Bet you remember singing
"We all agree,
Jennings is better than Yashin
Greavsie is better than Eusebio
and (............) are in for a thrashing"
Pick who you want to insert.
I also remember 13-2 against Crewe in FA cup replay, 10-4 against Everton and a 5-5 draw with Pompey after it was 5-0 at half-time!!!
Anything else you can remind me off?
5-1 EUFA final against Athletico Madrid, I think.
how about spurs playing burnley at WHL....winning 4-0 at half time.....drawing 4-4 full time and losoing the replay.....nothing's changed eh?...a little story ....evidently the year spurs did the double spurs played burnley in the semi-final.....they were 0-0 and burnley were really pressuring them....in a goalmouth melee mcilroy headed a certain goal .with brown beaten....mackay punched it off the line....but the ref never saw it.because the goalmouth was crowded...and the rest is history....mackay confessed in his autobiography years later
....on such incidents results turn....
