  • Pavlyuchenko In Recent Times

Pavlyuchenko hasn't been played in the past few games and has not been subbed in either. Does anyone know why he hasn't been played? Clearly he is better than Bent who can only get tap-ins all season.

Sfer - Phew let's see, I miss a day or two and what do we have and Pavy thread that's lost its way.

Anyway, all of your points are well taken.

Now, in my defense you responded to some things I said in an extrapolatory manner (or, you took my words to a conclusion that was logical to you, but had nothing to do with my actual meaning).

I stated what i saw as some home truths...facts based on what's happened to our team in the not too distant past.

So first the agreement bit and I quote:

"totally agree with you about JJ not being outstanding at any one thing, but he's decent enough at enough things and as you said that's what pleases the coaches and they're the ones that pick the teams."

Now the fact that we have been overlooked by many a top class player...you've only to remember back to the amount of players we were in for (or supposed to be in for); players that gleefully said they snubbed us and went elsewhere. The fact that we were nearly left high and dry with ONLY Bent and Pavy (and I hope no one here' is passing pavy off as "WORLD CLASS" because I will ask if you're having a fcuking laugh! Decent player, might turn out better than expected when he gets a break and comes back fresh...we'll see))on the first team squad as a striker at the end of the summer transfer window.

What did I say about this in my thread?:

At this point in our history anyone good we develop or take a chance on, moves on (recent history has proved that).

I went on to say (and this is where i think you took the worng meaning because I was again just saying this is our lot NOW so let's deal with it:

Until we are in a position to pique the interest of the big name/good players then we have to make do with the Jenas's and Bent's of the world,

      Here's my extrapolation:

If we get 4th place or some other CL spot...watch and see players knocking down our door...they'll be no "Spurs, who are they" comments (Samuel E'to); but UNTIL then we get what we've got.

There was nothing in there that suggested that we settle for mediocrity; I basically stated that these are things that have happened to us and this si what we get for being in that position.

Even Man City have found out that you can't just chuck money at the problem.

I've heard lots of comments on here that said berbatov would still be with us if we'd have cracked the top 4 - I believe that Berbatov would have been fighting for a 1st team spot if we made the CL such would be the interest in us giving us a wide-array of options in all areas of the pitch (lets not forget the windfall of loot the club gets for reaching that lauded spot).

Now it may turn out that we have to agree to disagree, but I as a long time Spurs fan (not quite as long as you...'67) I would rather eat shit than see us settle for mediocrity. So you can take that for the record and do with it what you want.

Pavy - let's wait and see

Jenas - we win with him in the team

(there's nothing to read into either of those statements, they are what they are).

Here's more...as the thread morphed the direction brought us to Lampard and Gerrard...no I don't think any Jenas supporter in their right mind would say that he's on par with those two (who else is in the league?) ut if that's the gold standrard you're (this is all of you not just Sfer); then I totally agree. But look back up at some of the reasons why we don't have those or that caliber player and you'll see why we have Jenas!

I guess that Harry Redknapp one of the worsed coaches in primier
league. He does not have any game concept. And the most bad that at it is favourites and players whom he does not appreciate. Therefore Pav sits on a bench. As a supporter of Spartak , and it would be desirable to tell: Pav run therefrom. Even without game practice he has well played for a national team

Oh, and re Pav (and the point of the thread...) - he's played pretty much non-stop for almost two years, the poor lamb's got to be knackered! After the 6 games in 17 days or whatever ridiculous number it was (over CC final & last UEFA games etc) he had to be rested for a bit, & if we're doing ok while Bent's playing why not give Pav an extended break for a week or two as Redknapp knew he'd be called for international duty, therefore leaving him (relatively) fresh for the push at the end of the season.

Combine that with knowing you're going to have to sell a striker in the summer (there's no way he can keep all 4 of them happy, even if he doesn't want to sell someone - probably Bent - will want to go), it's the right time to give Bent a run & a chance to a) really show us what he can do, and help Redknapp make his decision, or b) have a 'shop window' opportunity so we can recoup as much of his fee as possible and he can use it for the rest of his squad strengthening.

I hear you nbr....and of course your probably right about the team being better off with JJ in it (I dont have the stats in front of me but if you say so thats good enough for me).
My point is this (and I suspect its Sfers general view also) that surely there is a player out there who not only posseses the attributes of JJ but also has a better all round contribution to make...therefore not only making us just marginally better but significantly better.
Im not arguing that Jenas should be dropped ...but replaced with a better.....one who scores more and creates more...after all he was lauded as the next big midfield star a few years back....well hes not in the same league as a Gerrard, Lampard, Scholes etc IMO. Of course I'll leave the difficulties of choosing and buying players to the professionals but its not such an outrageous idea is it?
Now while we are ticking over mid table Jenas might well be enough for most people but I, like all spurs fans, want to see us in the top 6 every season and Im always looking at where we can improve the team to achieve that. I just see Jenas as unfuliflled (never to be fullfilled) potential. Not so micu a weak link as just another link.....in his position he ought to be the driving force.

i think a lot of spurs fans are snubs, they look down there noses at players like jenas, bent & zokara. we are not manchester united so we arent going to replace them with villa, ribery & eto. we need amplayer who can score 15 prem goals a season & players who can tackle in the middle of the pitch.
i wouldnt pay much attention to your jenas poll either, a while ago i was having people telling me i was wrong for sayin king should start in the cup final & that 1 game a week of king is more then enough. but suddenly now that he gets called into the england squad people are startin threads like king is king.
yes i would sell jenas if we got a decent offer in, but i wouldnt transfer list him or say he is for sale. why pick on just jenas? huddlestone, gunter, tarrabt, bale, huddlestone, o hara & even pavy havent exactly took the premeirship by storm.
and rambros right about us not being able to track the biggest stars, we needed a top striker & the best we could get was pavy- not bad but not exactly the new klinsmann is he
