    what was harry playing up!
the pressure got to him in the end.

did he know we needed the win?!

    he settled for a pt.

yes we had 10men but we were in control & villa were dreadful.

vdv shatterd again after 70mins yet he keeps him on till the last few mins.

we desperately need a goal so he leaves defoe on the bench & brings on parker!

    should have been braver harry.

i like harry & he has done wonders for us.
but everytime we get close & the pressure is on, he falls apart.

again ade was isolated upfront & the only way we were going to score was a pen.

why not go 4-4-2 with defoe & ade upfront for this must win match?

even at the end he still didnt bring on the most likely player to score.

i do wonder what hold has vdv got over harry.
he is always on his knees after 70mins but stays on.

i wish i could say we went for it but werent good enough. in the end we didnt go for it.

John I just thought it was silly to say 1 point was enough. IMHO 3 points were essential and to say otherwise was detrimental. The team were being praised for 1 point which to my mind was wrong.
      Reasons to follow.......
As far as the chavs are concerned if we had gotten all 3 they could not have caught us for 4th as we would of had 68 points in 3rd. Now, after the Villa shambles we have 66 and them 61 with 2 games to play. So they can get 67 points and finish above us if we lose to Fulham, and don't bet against it. BMJ would love to cripple our CL aspirations.
Newcastle could only manage 68 now, as known before our game finished. So with our goal difference a win at Villa would have guarenteed 4th at worst.
Arsenal can now finish 3rd without winning against WBA If we only draw with Fulham and they lose by the odd goal. As it is now we could end up 6th!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's how important the Villa result was!!

Why is anyone surprised we didn't/couldn't win this game?? How many times this season have we "battered" the opposition from a stats point of view but only got a point or even lost the game?

Did anyone else see that stat about us having the most shots from outside the box in the enitire PL? I think it was 98 compared to Chelsea in second with 70 odd. And that was before this last weekend.

We just don't have the players, or the tactics, or the players in the right place, to beat teams that load up the defence. The only way you beat teams like that is to get behind them but Ade is not quick enough over 10 yards and more often than not he is the only player in the box anyway.

Even when we do get lennon or bale (but that is becoming quite rare!) in behind the full backs, they either don't produce a quality cross or if they do we don't have anyone in there on the end of it (VDV should be of course but he is usually holding hands with Gallas at that point).

Our best displays this year have been aginst teams that have come to beat us or teams that we have scored against early. Teams that come to beat us leave gaps which we have been able to exploit and teams that go behind have to chase the game meaning we can use our pace to break out and score.

As for tactics against Villa - it was never going to be easy but for my money - I would have preferred at least to have had a go. Goal scoring talent on the bench in such a crucial game is a waste. Where we are now compared to where we could have been...it was worth the risk IMO.

forgot to say.... sandro was outstanding for the 3rd game in the row. when king retires he will be my new fave player!

if mourinho had been in charge today, even with 10men he would have thrown defoe on & gone for it.

harry is a good manager but when the pressure is on & in big games he usually goes to pieces & cant handle it.

he kept changing his mind about what to do during the match & in the end did nothing to the last few mins.
it was like he thought just let the boys get on with it.

u would honestly think he was happy with a pt. well done for handing 3rd spot to the gooners.

at least city beat newcastle i guess.

I used to love Redknapp, bit i'm sorry he was a total pussy with 30 mins to go. Why would getting a penalty change the need to bring on Defoe seeing as we still needed to score another goal. Perhaps it would have been better if we hadn't got the penalty then Defoe would have definately come on! It beggars belief in to why it seems Redknapp settled for a draw, perhaps if the blue scum wasn't in the champions league final i could understand it........maybe, but bringing Parker on so we had 2 defensive midfielders and 1 striker when even with 10 men Villa were there for the taking is unforgivable. Sure Villa we're lucky and didn't deserve even a point but well done Harry for helping them and for ruining our chance for 3rd, you're a tactical genius

so still ignoring/playing dumb with the facts that pep, mancini & fergie all came out & said pessamistic things about their teams chances despite u saying do u really think fergie, mancini etc would say pessamistic stuff.

& u say i never admit im wrong!

lets face it, harry could friedel at LB & john would still defend it.

harry messed up against villa which is proven by the result when we needed a win & the fact he clearly couldnt handle the pressure & didnt have a clue what to do.
that was all evident on the sidelines.

      SB,
Can you give me one season where Daffy has scored 20 goals in the league?

You say about stats don't say anything, but you're misreading this stat SB.
You can use a stat to predict future performance, but it is just that, a prediction and not a fact.

IE I pointed out 'arry's performance - he has a 50+% win average, one of the highest of all the managers. BUT I also pointed out that he hasn't been in charge for the same number of games as the greats. So, although a stat is an indication it is not a fact when used to project. Do you understand that? IT IS a fact when looking backwards, but not looking forwards. IE after something (season/match) ends you can quote stats of actual performance. BUT it would be stupid to project say, the first half of a game on the second - '...we had 20 shots and scored 3...so we'll end up with 40 shots and 6 goals...' type thing doesn't work. That is using a stat to predict. And as you know from the weather, predictions aren't always right are they?

I'm sorry about being stupid. I never actually studied statistics at school, so I'll leave it to you to guide me through the subtle intricacies of the 'science'.
